7 local foods to try in Fukuoka - SilverKris

"A well-loved destination for motsunabe, a belly-warming hotpot of cow and pig offal with leek, bean sprouts and cabbage simmered in a miso- or soy-based broth; the collagen-rich stock deepens and sweetens as it boils, and the dish is prized for both comfort and perceived skin-beautifying benefits." - MICHELE KOH MOROLLO

Traditional fukoka pot that can't be treated in other regions. Food are tasty but a bit salty for the miso favour hotpot Congee and noodle are so delicious when added at the end of the meal. Location a bit far from city centre, but open till late and for free parking outside the shop.

All the staff with whom I have interacted were very nice, polite and helpful. For me it was an amazing experience because it was my first time eating motsunabe. Let's start with the seating: you sit on the floor, on a pillow and the is a hole underneath the table for your legs. Very confy. There was an english menu so it's easy to order. I picked the miso broth, it really was out of this world. Never had a miso broth that tasted like this in my life. The portion for the price is very reasonable. The veggies were fresh, the additional seasoning that they bring you were tasty, the intestine, if you are not affraid of tasting it and don't mind eating fat, is a bit chewy but in combination with the fat, wich renders all the flavor as you chew the whole thing makes it a unique experience, at least for me it was.

This Hakata’s one of the most traditional style of food should shared with your friends or family. Love it and very powerful, make you gain for tomorrow’s sight seeing or work! Enjoy until the end of course, Cheers.

Motsunabe is a must try, being a famous Fukuoka dish. However, it as a hard to acquire taste. Some Western tongues will find the fat, well, too fatty. This place is way out of the way, with absolutely nothing around. So, it’s probably best to just try closer to the tourist spots as this meal may not be as memorable as you’d like. As to the restaurant; clean, good quality (if you like offals), but location, location, location.

Very tasty miso motsunabe, the addition mentai is very generous for the price. Very complex, rich and creamy, space also very good. Relatively good price for offering, tough is expensive compare to other motsunabe stores in the country.

Motsunabe Yamanaka Honten in Fukuoka not only delights with its motsunabe—especially the rich, flavorful miso option—but also impresses with its lovely building and helpful staff. The offal's texture is top-notch, and the soup is irresistibly rich and authentic. Though English communication may be limited, the staff's dedication to service shines through. The restaurant also offers convenient parking. Don't miss out on adding egg and rice to your pot for a perfect porridge finale. A five-star experience; I'll definitely return.

Very angry at their service. Delivered my order in perfect japanese when i entered the store, said ok and waited for 30 min and they said the order was not delivered. And blaming me for that order was supposed to be done at the table-can be. But what about not saying anything for 30 min without any double-check? Because of my check in time, i had to leave without eating anything(they wanted to sell so much saying i could eat hot pot jn 20 min) Thx for that, i couldnt eat anything until check in because of this. Thought an hr and half would be very enough but they blew out my time. Not checking a customers order for 30 min and saying that you didnt make order for 30 min, since i did when i entered and they said ok. Is this an out of season April fool’s joke?

The place is a bit expensive. The soup is tasty but all you get for 4500 yen(for two) is some vegetables and scrap meat. If you're willing to spend a lot of money to try something new this place is for you.

Yelp
We were out all day shopping in Fukuoka and since this was our last night we HAD to get there before heading home. It was an arduous task just getting there. We took a bus, train, and walked to this restaurant. The weather was a little cold and wet but it would make our find even sweeter. All the that you may have read on Yelp are all true. Our experience was phenomenal, it probably would have been better to make a reservation but I wasn't sure how long it would take us to get there. Nevertheless we got there about 630p and a large part just left. I mentioned we didn't have any reservations so he asked us to "choto mate kudasai". A minute later he came back and said he could give us a table but we'd have to complete dinner by 800p. (Happy/relieved dance!) Being escorted to your table, you sit on the floor while your legs dangle under the table. I believe it's called a hori seating. We ordered a couple of appetizers for starters- mentaiko, beef cheeks, and turnip kimchee. The mentaiko was very good, a little on the salty side but that was to be expected. My husband enjoyed the beef cheeks he said it was very soft more like a stewed consistency, and the kimchee was crispy and work well with the soup to come. When the stew/soup arrived they turned on the stove and let it start to heat up, the waiter came over and said the soup was ready and to go ahead and add the veggie. Just heavenly...the broth was thick, the intestines were soft, the veggies were still little crunchy. Ahh it was worth the bus ride, train ride, and walk. Whenever we go back to Fukuoka this will definitely be a stop and I'll make reservations!

Yelp
Wow, this was amazing! This place is near Hakata station and this is the very very famous walleye pollack roe restaurant. The miso soup was so fabulous and the entrails was so soft and sweet!! Not only hot pot but also oeuvres were everything wonderful. Because this is FUKUOKA?? Anyway I will be defiantly back here. A bottle of wine, hot pot, additional entrails, walleye pollack roe and two more dishes were about 5,000 yen. I can never eat this in TOKYO. This is the best walleye pollack roe restaurant where I have been.

Yelp
Yamanaka Motsunabe is such a special hot pot. Every time I visit in Japan I must eat this hot pot no matter what. During winter I eat at this mostunabe twice a week makes your entire body feel warm instantly. Thumbs up for anyone looking for special local hot pot experience. Far the best Japanese Hot Pot I have eaten....!!!!! ^^

Yelp
Motsunabe is entrails soup, which we cooked our food in. The flavor of the soup was delicious, very deep in flavoring. Honestly I have not tried other Motsunabe so I rate this a 5 star because it is the best I have had. That being said my friends and I did a lot of research before deciding on this place. Often when we travel we try to eat dishes that are local specialties. That being said I am sure this is one of the better places motsunabe places. If you are Fukuoka you must try to this place one and experience the culture!
