I've Traveled to More Than 50 Countries but Something About This Surf Island in the Philippines Hooked Me

"A steaming bowl of ramen in the tropics may be a hard sell for some, but the food at Hakata It is so good that it has no problem filling seats — even in summer heat. (Don’t worry, they have cold noodle dishes as well.) The vibe at Hakata is chill, the Japanese menu is authentic (and affordable), and the location is hard to beat — it’s right across from Cloud 9." - Evie Carrick Evie Carrick Evie Carrick is a writer and editor who’s lived in five countries and visited well over 50. Curry katsu had a bitter after taste but still tasted good. The noodle had a funny taste. I would say the food are reasonable.

The spicy ramen was really tasty. Not the best ramen ever but a good option when you want to change it up and get something different on the island.

One of the gems in Siargao. Been here multiple times. My go to ramen place in the island. Japanese owned restaurant with island vibes to it. Food and price are excellent. Tonkotsu pork was a little bit overcooked tho, but the taste made up for it. Will be back to try out their other dishes. Definitely a must try

I usually love tantanmen, but my bowl today tasted unusually sweet and the broth seemed separated. The pork and noodles had no flavor either. Maybe it was an off batch, but it didn’t taste fresh. Gyoza were nice though! Also that would be nice to have the egg more jammy and not hard boiled.

10/10 Ramen! Flavor was so good and comparable to the ones we’ve had in Japan, service and staff were friendly and price was fair too. Would come back!

Perfect spot for a cozy, rainy evening! My husband and I weren’t too hungry, so we shared a bowl of tantanmen ramen and an order of vegetable gyoza—both were so good! The ramen broth was rich, flavorful, and had just the right level of spice to warm us up. The gyoza might just be the best we’ve ever had—crispy, light, and bursting with flavor. We’ll definitely be back for more! We came here on a Sunday a little before 7 pm. There were only 3 customers. The place became packed around 8 pm.

I’ve only been in Siargao for 10 days and I already went 4 times. I love the Hokkaido Santouka Ramen inside Mitsua Japanese market in different locations in California but I must say Hakata Ramen is comparable to Hokkaido Santouka if not better. It’s got that umami flavor that I love. I have 3 more days in Siargao and I plan to come back for more.

I was craving for ramen while in Siargao. I knew of this place from before since I saw it on social media. Parking is easy for motorcycles, not so much for cars. Unless you want to park at Shaka. Price range is usually on the 300php to 400php range. I ordered tsukemen and tantanmen, while my kid ordered katsudon. We also ordered gyoza. The tantanmen didn't fit the range of taste I was expecting. It was a little too salty. For the tsukemen, I was looking for more depth from the dipping sauce. The noodles was a bit overcooked also. Sadly, there was also a bit of a funky smell from the food. I love ramen, and noodles in general, but I hope this shop gets it better. It may be because of hard-to-get quality meat or ingredients from the island. As for the katsudon, a bit more flavor (maybe a bit more shoyu/salt/mirin) would elevate it. My kid liked it though. The place was cool enough since it has a high roof and is beside trees. For the record, I think I'd still want to go back. Maybe. We'll see.
