Hakiki is one of those dessert spots that hits the sweet spot between tradition and indulgence. You’re greeted by a warm, low-lit interior with a wide display of vibrant Turkish-style ice creams and a whole cabinet of baklava variations that instantly tempt you to order more than you planned.
We tried the pistachio baklava, künefe slice, and a generous scoop of dondurma, the stretchy, dense Turkish ice cream that Hakiki is known for. The baklava was flakey and syrupy without being overly sweet, with just the right amount of ground pistachio on top. The künefe came with a dollop of cream and had that satisfying contrast of crunchy shredded pastry and gooey filling.
But the real star was the ice cream. We had fig & walnut and coconut chocolate swirl, both rich, chewy, and packed with flavour. The fig one especially had little bursts of texture and natural sweetness that paired beautifully with the pastries.
My friend got the feta and melon which sounds like a strange combination to me but it tasted very fresh and flavourful as well. It didn’t taste like standard cantaloupe at all, but more reminiscent of japanese sweet melons? Definitely a sleeper flavour I feel.
Outdoor seating is minimal but functional, especially on a cool night. It’s casual and self-service, but the team behind the counter is friendly and quick.
Definitely a great spot to end the night after dinner in Newtown, it’s not flashy, but it delivers where it counts.
