Yelp
I rarely recommend a food joint on the promise of enjoying one dish alone, but that's exactly what I intend to do with this review.
But let me get the other menu items I did sample out of the way first. Being a fried rice aficionado (or fried rice fiend, more appropriately), I sampled the tandoori, kimchi and Sichuan varieties.
The positive for these was that Hakka Chilli gives you enormous portions. You can feed 3 people easily with one of these.
However, my gripe is that there was very little to distinguish them in terms of taste. Yeah the kimchi fried rice had a sprinkling of what I can assume was a version of fermented cabbage, but overall they were generic to say the least.
What more than makes up for this is the restaurant's version of crispy chilli lamb. The lamb is served how you want it in terms of the existence of a saucy gravy, or without. I chose the latter, which I recommend because that retains the crispy texture of the meat. The lamb is served chopped down to shreds, and then fried with a thin batter that adds the crispy texture. It is then tossed in a sauce that clings to the surface without making it soggy. It is finished with green and red bell peppers and PLENTY of sliced green chilis for that spicy kick.
Savory, crispy, delicious to the very end.
