Hakone Retreat Villa 1/f (Hakonemachi, Ashigarashimo-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s not hard to find stillness and calm in Japan’s vast countryside, but it’s even easier in a place like the Hakone Retreat, which lives up to its name with a collection of private wood timbered bungalows that blend seamlessly into the verdant Hakone Forest. Each comes equipped with a kitchenette, cozy fireplace and mineral-rich hot spring and guests are encouraged to switch off, literally, with music, reading, board games and coloring books. When you do feel like getting outside there’s a choice of jogging, cycling and hiking trails; other attractions include two restaurants and a public onsen." - Tablet Hotels

We got cabin number 5. We encountered some problems with our room, which normally would make it not as good. However, the staff was so helpful in resolving our issues, and gave us a full refund. I would recommend this place for people who are higher class than we were, the food was fancy, but not to our cozy-american liking really. We got an outdoor open-air bath which was nice for the night we stayed. It was nice and secluded and romantic for the two of us on our honeymoon. I think if they work on some maintenance things, this will be a really lovely place

A five-star experience from start to finish! My recent stay at Hakone Retreat 1/F was nothing short of incredible, a true escape into a world of luxury and tranquility. The journey began even before I arrived, thanks to the impeccable service of SU SAGDUYU the reservation specialist who assisted me in getting the exact room type i wanted. Their deep knowledge of the resort's 18 uniquely designed rooms helped me secure the perfect space for my getaway. The check-in was a seamless and professional experience, handled efficiently by KAKAO. The room itself was an absolute dream. Descending into the private wooden cabin felt like stepping into a hidden sanctuary, and the scent of natural wood was immediately calming. The floor-to-ceiling, 180-degree windows transformed the space into a luxurious treehouse, offering breathtaking views of the lush green forest. The outdoor onsen was kept at the ideal temperature, a constant invitation to relax and find my "zen moment." The modern decor, fully stocked complimentary minibar, and the meticulous attention to detail made me feel truly pampered. The service continued to shine throughout my stay. The maintenance staff, particularly ARJUN, went above and beyond to ensure the room was spotless and all my needs were met with a friendly smile. Staff AYAKO KONDO was very informative, helpful and prompt in getting me what I needed in the room. Another staff member AOYAMA was also very helpful and patient answering all my questions and reviewing all the room specification when i come back again. Simply excellent service! The breakfast, with both Japanese and Western options, was a delightful culinary experience. The complimentary shuttle service to the nearby bus stop and 7-Eleven, along with the free use of e-bikes to explore the private forest grounds, made getting around effortless. This is more than just a hotel; it's a transformative experience. Hakone Retreat 1/F is an exclusive haven where every detail is curated for ultimate relaxation and rejuvenation. I have only been here for 2 nights and I am already feeling completely recharged and can't recommend this five-star retreat highly enough.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay in Cabin 5. Service is good. The location is great. It's an enjoyable experience, that is still definitely recommended. Loved the private onsen. Loved the fireplace. Loved the nature centered location. However, it's time for renovations and more attention to detail. - The shower is made out of wood, run down and just plain uncomfortable to shower in. - Some things are old and run down. The foot bench at the bed had full on black stains. - Attention to detail is lacking on the "finer things" like replacing damaged food containers used for room service. For this price, something of consideration. - The shower function on the toilet did not work. - Room service dinner was okay, nothing to write home about. We paid 400 euro for a night and for that price, you expect a bit more attention to detail and maintenance specifically. Tips for the owner: - Attention to detail. Broken or damaged equipment should be replaced/repaired. - Tile the shower, install a rain shower. Elevate the experience by fixing what's broken or replacing what is outdated and it would be a 5 star stay.

Overall an exquisite relaxation and culinary experience, with exceptional staff that communicates with each other, understands and accommodates to our every need. We were travelling with our mother to celebrate her birthday, so we were not looking to do too much in Hakone but to relax and have a high quality vacation time. Hakone Retreat Villa turned out to the perfect place for us to do that. The log cabin villas were spacious and offered amazing view into the surrounding forests. The private onsen was super nice. The staff was super attentive to us and helped our mother get around the facilities in their carts/cars. We had breakfasts and dinners at Ryotei Hyoseki. It was our first time having Kaiseki so we loved the experience. The food was delicious and there was always more than enough to fill us. Thank you for the memorable experience! Now to mention things that may be helpful to others: - You are VERY close to nature - so insects, mosquitos, and frogs are not out of the question. We went during summer, and the cicadas were loud. We didn't mind it too much. It was a different cicadas sound than what we usually hear, so it was actually somewhat soothing. - While there is breakfast and dinner within the facilities, you will have to go out for lunch. There is a cafe where you can get coffee/tea throughout the day, and they have some pastry options. That said, breakfast/dinner are plenty and we didn't end up eating much for lunch when we were out. - Depending on your villa, your onsen may be more or less private. One of our villas had an onsen fully secluded facing the forest, while the other is a bit closer to the pathway (but someone can't really see unless they decide to walk up to the cabin).

The place looks like the pictures. It’s about 20 mins away by bus from the hakoneyumoto station. We used the baggage delivery service at the train station (1000 yen per piece for regular size baggage) and when we checked in, our bags were in the room already. The staff is very nice and helpful. We’re thankful for the shuttle to the nearby bus station. The food is great. The onsen is very relaxing. We had a great time at this place.Definitely will stay again when I visit Hakone.

My wife and me enjoyed our last 2 days in Japan in this luxurious resort in the mountains of Hakone. For us it was perfect to relax a bit because we have been sightseeing a lot before in rather crowded areas. The service and kindness of every(!) staff member on this resort is of the highest quality. I am studying japanese since 6 months so i only have basic language skills, but it was no problem at all. Everyone is trying their best to explain everything in English. We tried out both the japanese and french breakfast and dinner. Everything was delicious and the chef made changes to the menu because my wife is vegeterian and has sea food allergy. Arigatō gozaimashita! Our villa with private outdoor onsen made of wood with a view in the forest/mountains was phenomenal. Clean, spacious, and so quiet. Yes, it is expensive, but in my opinion definitely worth it. One minor criticism: Check-out was too chaotic. We were told it would be done at our appartment and the staff would drive us and the baggage to the bus station. Because we had to get our train at Odawara we told 3(!) different receptionists that we need to check out at 10:15am. One staff member even asked me again when the check out should be done. In the end i had to call the reception at 10:30am because no one came. A little bit frustrating but we somehow made it to the train in time. The bus who drives from Hakone to Odawara is very crowded and not very convenient. For the price of the accomodation i would wish for a pick up service at the train station. But again for us it was only a minor flaw. Thank you for the great time at Hakone Retreat Villa 😊

The retreat is away from the busy crowds elsewhere in this resort. Room was secluded in a forest setting. All staff very helpful especially Arjun, who hails from Nepal, and who made sure we got to see the local attractions that we wanted to see.|This was our most expensive accommodation in Japan, but we felt it was worth it.

Stayed here for 3 nights in one of their villas. We opted to do the one with the private onsen due to my partner and I being tattooed and we were not disappointed. The villa was spacious with 2 bedrooms and large bathrooms/indoor onsens with a large outdoor onsen. It was so peaceful to be outdoors in the onsen while it snowed and rained. The staff from start to finish was always helpful and eager to do what they could for us. They brought beautiful flowers and a delicious cake to commemorate my partner and I’s recent engagement. Additionally, they also were helpful in carting us around the property for breakfast and dinner, as well as any off property restaurant destinations. Furthermore, the staff and chefs at Woodside were very accommodating with my seafood allergy and made little changes within their menu to ensure I could partake in their restaurants. I should note that the chef from the Japanese restaurant called our room and was rude to my fiancé as he was very upset with me allergies. We were told I couldn’t eat at the Japanese restaurant, so they cancelled our reservations there… we ate at the French restaurant twice for dinner and it was very good. This was our favorite stay in our trip and I’d highly suggest this resort and their villas. The only minor criticism we had was that it was odd they only had one masseuse so we couldn’t get massages because they were so booked out, their room service was only from 5pm-830pm so we had to go out to lunch each day, and apparently taxis aren’t a thing up there which we didn’t know so we spent most our morning trying to figure out how to take a bus that never came. We ended up taking a taxi that by luck was up there but the villa staff did drop us off at the bus stop, told us the bus time and did try calling taxis for us prior! Overall, I would definitely suggest this spot if you want an off the beaten bath luxury retreat in the mountain of Hakone. We truly enjoyed our time there.
