10 Amazing Ski Resorts in Japan for Your Next Winter Getaway

"A mainland international favorite made up of 10 resorts that can be explored on a single day pass with free shuttles connecting some areas; in total there are 86 lifts and 126 runs that cater to a wide range of abilities, with many strong intermediate and Olympic-level slopes and Happo-one having hosted events during the 1998 Winter Olympics. For families, Kashimayari Snow Resort Family Park functions like a winter theme park and includes Pokémon Snow Adventure with a snow tubing run 492 feet long. For après-ski and lively nightlife, head to Echoland and try local spots such as Sarugaku, an izakaya serving sashimi and locally made sake." - Selena Takigawa Hoy Selena Takigawa Hoy Selena Takigawa Hoy is a writer who has lived in Tokyo for more than 15 years. A traditional Japanese experience. It took me 3 days to get used to the bed on the floor, but after that my back was fine.||The hotel dinner is excellent. The breakfast is average. Our package included both as we stayed 7 nights. ||This hotel will suit people who want a quiet location close to the slopes. The nearest chair lift at Goryu Iimori is across the road, and the Goryu / Hakuba 47 mountain is in my top 3 mountains together with Cortina and Tsugaike.||Do not stay here if you want night life as there is none. You will be better off in Happo One.||The staff are extremely accommodating, and the newly renovated communal steam room is a welcome relief after a day on the mountain.||The hotel’s best selling point is its proximity to the chair lift plus the Hakuba Valley shuttle bus stop is only a 2 minute walk.||Tip - get on the shuttle bus early if travelling north to Happo, Iwatake and Cortina. You will get a seat at Goryu but it will be rammed by Echoland. The first bus from Goryu Iimori leaves at 7.39am and it will take 90 minutes to get to Cortina, which in my view is the best resort for powder and tree runs, particularly if like me, you snowboard. Coming south at the end of the day, it is a complete debacle on the HV bus if you leave it late. Best to start early in the morning and get a bus back at about 3pm. Failing that, there’s Uber and taxis.||Overall, I would stay at this hotel again as I like an early night and the chair lift is 50 metres away, but I will not be back in Hakuba anytime soon as the mountain resorts need significant investment. The snow is good but the chair lifts are old and slow. The US wins hands down. Those who say Jap powder is the best need to broaden their horizons.

A bit expensive for 3 star hotel. The building is old and little bit creepy. U can smell smoke at the hall. The staff is kind and polite. No restaurant & konbini (7-11) near hotel. You need ride car 10 mnts from hotel.

Ski in ski out for one of many hills. Location is good. But no restaurants nearby except the hotel. We had meal plan so that was OK. Traditional Japanese style rooms with own bathroom. Small and no furniture. Just mattress.

It's overpriced to paid for this hotel stayed, the room was too small and compact, they don't even provide drinking water in the room, you need to go to the front corner to ask for a Kettle, horrible experience, the room do not have a table and chair, they make you sit on the floor. We had terrible nights sleeping on the tatami futon was too hard to sleep on.

This hotel was better than expected, this hotel is a little old but the location is incredible the lift is across the street - we arrived by bus to Hakuba and the driver for the hotel was able to pick us up from the bus station. We had dinner and breakfast included in our stay, the first night was a hot pot so nice to have staying the snow. They no longer have a rental shop at the hotel but have an offer just 5 mins walk up the road. We will be back in the next few years our stay was so good and the staff were super lovely.

Best thing about this hotel is the location. You’re right next to the slope (2min walk) and there’s a little rest pantry right next to it too. Makes taking a break super easy. Also near a value for money equipment rental place Funaru (10% discount if you’re From sun valley). Nice breakfast and dinners too! Service was friendly. Only thing is hotel is a bit old (tho quaint) and maybe experience would be better if I stayed at the new block. So advise to request for new block!

The place was great, it was a wonderful experience. The hotel is located right along the Iimori slope and you can reach the lifts in one minute walk. The food was delicious, it was always a buffet-style where you can get what you need to eat especially after the heavy exercise that is skiing/snowboarding. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and provided good insight on how to make the most of our stay. The room is small but clean. Surprisingly as well, the room had actual beds and not just traditional futon. Would definitely love to visit again
