Amazing experience - hard to picture this Neolithic subterranean structure underground and hidden for so many years- discovered accidently. It is a wonderful place to visit - get tickets early! They only allow so many visitors a day. Not a place you can just 'drop by'. Very well kept, clean bathrooms, a little shop at the entryway. Very cool, to think about Malta in this way, interesting attraction and I'm grateful I was able to visit during my time in Malta. Inside photos are not allowed - everything has to be secured in provided lockers. Audio is in many languages, which was very helpful.

This ancient underground temple is a somewhat unusual attraction. It sits unassumingly between residential buildings and it's a tiny space above ground without bathrooms. Access is restricted to a certain number of visitors per day, therefore you will need to buy tickets weeks in advance, which are then also overpriced. But it's still a gem worth visiting, giving you a glimpse into another world. A lost world in fact, a world we just don't know a lot about and probably never will.

It is one of the oldest neolitic sites in the world. Must see. No photos allowed inside. Buy your tickets at least two weeks in advance.

We were lucky to find tickets for the next day but we paid 50 euro/person as they were "last-minute" tickets. Strongly advise buying tickets in advance. The Hypogeum is really unique, it is very different from the temples because it is something else, a prehistoric necropolis. The architecture is special - everything was dug in the rock with stone tools. No photos allowed.

Book in advance!!! I couldn’t enter the site as I should have booked at least a month ahead according to the reception. The site can take a maximum of 80 persons per day so the capacity is limited. The place is in the middle of the city and accessible by public transportation. The entrance is quite discreet. Pay attention not to miss it. I’ll come back!

Simply amazing. Book online weeks if not months in advance, as this seems to be very popular and they only offer a small number of tickets each day (80 tickets per day). If you miss out online like we did, you can buy “last minute” tickets on the day, in person, at the St Elmo Fort War museum (they apparently reserve 20 “last minute” tickets per day). We went in late February and did not have to queue to get last minute tickets in person. I have read however that at peak holiday times you may need to queue from early in the morning. The last minute tickets were a bit pricey €50 each (they would have been €35 each if we managed to book in advance online) but worth it. Highly recommend this interesting tour, which had a guide and audio device. Recommended homework: Graham Hancock’s “Ancient Apocolypse” Season 1 episode 3 (“Sirius Rising”) for some related Neolithic history of Malta

An interesting site for those that like to experience ancient ruins. It’s a bit pricey though. It cost $35 if you buy your ticket online and $50 in person (if they have available tickets - They only allow a small group in at a time). When we came they had a cancellation and we were able to get two tickets, but had to pay the more expensive price. They said they were sold out for a month in advance, so buy early if you want to be sure to get in. I think it’s so expensive because they have hand held listening devices available in multiple languages that tell you about the structure and the discovery as you walk through. Also because of the expense to keep it pristine and climate controlled. No photos are allowed (the ones I’m showing are from postcards in the lobby of the entrance). They make you leave your phones and cameras in lockers. A guide is with your small group at all times. There is a bathroom at the entrance. Pee before you go on the 45 minute tour. It would be hard to go out in the middle. There are stairs so it is not handicap friendly.

Essential to buy tickets, ideally a few weeks, in advance as restricted to 10 visitors an hour. Stunning megalithic goddess temple that has been carved out of rock. Incredibly unique and worth visiting when in Malta. Not permitted to take photos on the tour.
