We spent 3 weeks in resorts on 3 different islands doing the expected tourist things, finishing our tour with a delightful experience at this historic B&B. Our host Cherie was so welcoming and kind with her suggestions, her knowledge of Maui, and her stories of how she loves living and working there. We had the Rose room, a very quiet, cozy yet spacious mixture of antiques and artwork, with an exit to the front porch and views of the garden, and a spacious bath. We had room to spread out and yet a feeling of warmth and comfort with the windows open and the breeze blowing in. We came for a respite from the tourist scene and found both tranquillity at the B&B plus easy access to the quaint town of Makawao, Haleakala, Hana, and the Eastern side of the island. If you can stop to smell the roses, this is the place to stay.

We enjoyed Cherie's gracious hospitality (it's in the name!) and fresh fruit every morning. We rented the Kona Wing (my wife, myself, adult grand-daughter) for 5 nights and enjoyed it for proximity to out door activities (zipline, RTH, horse back riding, & ATV and the Crater which we didn't go to) and the grounds are peaceful and relaxing. It was comfortable yet quite different from the resort lifestyle in Lahaina. Makawao has a 3rd Friday town party which she told us about and it was fun with performers and food trucks. Then she mentioned the Saturday morning Farmer's Market (near Long's Drugs). This was great with wonderful array of fresh produce. Thoroughly enjoyable lodging experience.

I can't recommend Cherie's place enough, and let the time between when I stayed and when I wrote the review be a testament to how much it's STILL on my mind. On a feel-out-each-day solo trip to Maui, I landed at Hale Ho'okipa after some lucky searching on the internet. I had only planned two nights here, but I doubled my stay and should have doubled it again!||||It was fantastic getting to eat breakfast with and speak to Cherie each morning about my plans for the day--whether it was to confirm, fine-tune, or recommend something completely different (and completely brilliant). Cherie has spent a long time on Maui and has lots of perspective to offer on the island. Breakfast was a variety of fruits, toasts, jams, yogurt, coffee, tea, etc., all of it delicious. The Inn itself is beautiful, the rooms artfully furnished and comfortable, and the fascinating common room my favorite part. It's filled with enough hidden treasures that by the morning of my final day, I was still discovering and being pointed at new and amazing things. The grounds were also amazing to walk around and absorb in the morning over coffee. There's an *incredible* tree whiling away the years in the backyard.||||The Inn is in Makawao, which is pretty centrally located and not far from any day trip, really. It's also a very nice place to base out of for the trip, since it keeps away from all of the resort mess on the coast and provides a very relaxed place to spend the night and morning. The town has bars and restaurants for a few different tastes, including Stopwatch, which is both walkable from the Inn and has karaoke some nights.||||Next time I'm on Maui, I'm unquestionably coming back.

This Bed & Breakfast is amazing. This Craftsman bungalow is a little slice of Maui heaven. The inn keeper Cherie is wonderful! She was really helpful in giving us suggestions for where to go explore and eat in the area. We stayed in the Rose Room. Highly recommend staying here!

We mostly picked this place for it's proximity to Haleakala so we could drive up and see the sunrise. However, Cherie and her home are amazing! Each morning we were given fresh fruit and avacado from her garden and she accommodated our gluten-free needs as well! We stayed in the Kona wing which gave us 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. Up country is a very beautiful place and I'm glad that we found this place to spend some of our time in.

When you're tired of the resorts, this is the place to come. The atmosphere is relaxed, and even a bit quaint, but everything is well tended. Our room was cool (temperature) and colorfully decorated with great up-country charm. Cherie had to be off island while we were there, but her pinch hitters were really helpful, giving us great suggestions. Breakfast was delicious - they provide fruit, coffee, bread, jams, butter, etc, and local eggs, but you get to cook yourself. Makawao is a great small town, with good food in restaurants with lots of local charm, some amazing local art, and hospitable without being in-your-face. Definitely coming back to stay here next time.

Cherie is a great host!! This house is divided in 4 separate rentals (3 rooms on one side, 1 set of 2 rooms on the other). Each unit has its own bathrooms but does share kitchen and complimentary breakfast with the rest of the guests at 8am which consists of fresh tropical fruits, cereals and toasts. This is a great time to hear from other guests on their adventures and also taking to Cherie (the host) to get more information about the areas. This is a hostorical house so the rooms and furnitures will bring back memories of the past. But everything is clean and works well (with the exception of WiFi which is very slow). There are ample parking outside for guests. This is a great location if you want to do the Haleakala sunrise or want quick access to the airport. We found it was great to finish the Road to Hana and then come stay at this place. Then the next day go up to see the sunrise at Haleakala as this is easy to get to for both locations.

We had a lovely stay! The room and bathroom were very nice. We especially loved sitting on our private porch listening to the birds. And an occasional Cockadoodledoo from one of the many Roosters that roam Makawao 😊 Just a short walk to go see many artist shops or grab a bite to eat at quite a few different restaurants. We will be sure to return on our next visit to Maui.
