We love this place! The ocean view is spectacular! It was a happy accident when we happened upon this cute place. The ocean view is fantastic, and the whole place is right on the actual rocky shore of the Pacific. Four stories, and thank goodness there's an elevator. The place was well stocked with pots and pans and dishes and cups and cleaning supplies and all sorts of stuff. The shower comes with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Every apartment has a lanai that overlooks the ocean. They even have a little cart for you to borrow to load your stuff up from your car to get it up to your apartment. Air conditioning is great! The hide-a-bed sofa is... well... A hide-a-bed sofa... We would come back here in a heartbeat!

This is an unbelievable location in Kona on the rocky beach. Constant waves breaking close-up to the resort make for mesmerizing entertainment. Hale Kona Kai has a nice-sized pool, a great propane grill, and laundry facilities, and it's a short walk from the Kona bars and restaurants. Great place!

Never had a better Vacation in my life. If you need to be fancy, go to Royal Kona bar for a bit. Great view, great vibe - on the water. Close to everything good, especially Oceans Bar

AVOID Unit 413 -- Beware Booking Short-Term Rentals via Casago Kona. Hale Kona Kai condominiums are available for short-term vacation rentals with rentals and property management now handled by Casago Kona. Booked into Hale Kona Kai December 2023 for 10 nights, condo unit 413 with its oceanfront higher-cost wrap-around lanai as a treat. Upon arrival it became clear I’d been had … by truly deceptive marketing -- condo’s interior is rather dumpy-dilapidated, my heart sank, my mood soured, and my vacation was quite ruined. The photos of this condo on Casago Kona’s website must be at least 20 years old -or- cleverly edited ... nearly every interior surface is extremely worn/faded (cracked tile floors; stained/dirty carpet; old deteriorating cabinetry; old/dull lighting in kitchen; ‘popcorn’ ceiling peeling and flaking off; when was the last time the unit saw fresh paint?; worn/dirty-stained bathtub; as a health concern, ventilation cover in bathroom tub/shower area looks disgustingly corroded and dirty, and vent cover in ceiling above bathroom sink full of dust/dirt; damaged/defective glass in a bedroom window pane so ‘cloudy’ you can’t see through it). This condo unit is just tired and run down, suffering from lack of ownership pride and associated maintenance/upkeep. Surprised there’s not more professionalism and higher standards for units managed/represented by Casago Kona. They should be ashamed of complicity with the unit owner’s short-term rental income greed through inflated marketing utilizing misleading photos of the condo and deceitful text included on the Casago Kona’s website, e.g., “Updated kitchen and updated bathroom …” and “… chaise on the lanai” (yes, there’s a vinyl-strap chaise -- albeit deteriorating and with a dangerous-to-use broken middle support crosspiece … and no cushion for it; not what’s shown in its website image). Website includes a photo of a BBQ grill and text, “… you will find … a barbeque at the south end of the complex”, but the condo unit itself doesn’t possess any grilling utensils (not even a long-handled metal spatula); ridiculous. Hale Kona Kai has been a favorite condo complex for our Hawaii vacations since 2009 where we stayed numerous times in the same unit and thoroughly enjoyed it -- always exceptionally well maintained, updated and cared for, and extremely well provisioned all-around (e.g., kitchen items, cleaning supplies) for weeklong+ stays. That unit no longer appears in the short-term rental inventory. As this current stay was intended as a special celebration of my 65th birthday, thought we’d $plurge a bit and ‘upgrade’ our stay to a corner unit with wrap-around lanai, and selected unit 413 from the Casago Kona website based on its pictures … imagine being so utterly disappointed. And the audacity of a member of Casago’s staff contacting us our first day on-site with, “We hope you find Hale Kona Kai 413 suitable for your five-star stay here in Kona!” … adding insult to injury, as condo unit at most garners a 2-star rating. Imagine being misled and spending thousands of dollars on a special vacation only to be so bitterly discontented. Casago Kona should also be embarrassed for failing their Mission Statement’s bold claims, “… ensuring all of our residents have the best quality, most comforting living experience possible” and touting “core beliefs of honesty, integrity, professionalism, …”

If it wasn't for the spectacular view, it would get 3. We were in unit 407 and it is in need of some refreshing every few years

Stayed in an amazing condo. Literally on the water and the sound of crashing waves 24*7 is peaceful. Great VRBO!

We're here for the second time. Helpful staff. Easy walk to restaurants, coffee shops, market, and other attractions in town. Although we rent a car in Hawaii we're happy to walk as much as we can. It's well off the main road on a side street so the only noise is from the ocean surf. Beautiful place! Good pool right on the ocean.

Stayed in unit 212. Faces beach with wrap around lanai. Rocky shore with excellent surf breaks. Oodles of crabs scuttle through terrain. Saw a seabird try to catch one. Good entertainment. We are within walking distance of Kona restaurants.

Yelp
Konamazing...it speaks itself! This was our second stay at this wonderful condo, and I cant say enough about it. As soon as you enter you have a feeling of, I'm home!! very comfortable and well kept up...But not only that...the view...and the fact that you are right on the water, you cant get any closer. The large lanai over looking the water acts as a additional room to watch the beautiful sunsets, enjoy your meals, or just relax and enjoy the warm trade winds...we viewed sea turtles right out in front, spinner dolphins, whales and the local surfers!! Your just minutes away from downtown Kona for some great shopping and local restaurants, plus the best Poke on the island is located right on the condo property... Can't wait for our next visit....

Yelp
We spent a wonderfully full week at Hale Kona Kai. The view was superb, as were the accommodations. There's air conditioning, and comfortable furniture (including the welcoming bed). The kitchen is fully stocked with all the necessary tools. The location is a short walk to the dining and shopping and tourist area of town. We will return.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to the Big Island to celebrate the 4th of July and we stayed at Magic Sands Condo #213 in Kona. (sorry for the late review) I knew we had a lot to accomplish on our trip meaning we weren't going to be staying at the Condo much, so this 1 bedroom studio was perfect for us. Walking into our new "home" for a week was a dream. The bed was right next to the sliding glass door and I couldn't believe the view! Not only did it have a great view to watch the dolphins in the morning, the owner provides beach and bath towels, beach chairs, a little cooler and the entire house is set for cooking and much more. It was a 1 minute walk to Magic Sands beach that had great waves and lots of sea turtles. After a long day of being a tourist we tried to go to the beach at sunset to take a quick dip or the pool that is located on site. Konamazing vacation rentals was GREAT at responding to my emails and gave out great directions to get there from the airport. The last thing you want to deal with after the flight is getting lost to your new home. :) I would stay here again but next time I'm going to try out Kona Bali Kai 220, the owners other vacation rental.
