Nice easy drive up and down the mountain. I would go later morning to early afternoon and avoid the rush of tour companies and cars. It seems that everything clears up by then and makes roaming the stops and trails far more enjoyable.

Highly recommend! You will see 3 or 4 very different environments as you go up. It is 10023 feet at the summit. Absolutely, breath-taking views. You will go from farmland to lush green forests to the topography as pictured

This trail was beautiful but the other reviews made it sound like a stroll in the park. It was a 3 hour hike with an older man with us. Going across the creek was a struggle and not good with water shoes. Each person we passed on the way back asked us if the end was close yet. Please like this post so people wont be surprised.

The diversity of micro climates on the drive from the bottom to the top of the park is quite the experience! Stunning views from the top of the crater! Taking the short hikes along the drive and reading about the history of the area and information on the geography was fun and informative. Such a beautiful park to visit! Loved looking down on the volcanic cones from the multiple eruption sites in the crater. The colors and grandness are breathtaking!

Haleakalā National Park is hands-down one of the most awe-inspiring places I’ve ever visited. From the moment we began our early morning ascent to the summit, we knew we were in for something special — but nothing could have prepared us for the breathtaking beauty that awaited. We arrived before sunrise, and watching the sun rise above the clouds from the summit of Haleakalā was absolutely surreal. It felt like standing on the edge of the world. The colors, the silence, the crisp mountain air — it was a spiritual moment we’ll never forget. Definitely worth the early wake-up call! The park itself offers so much more than just the summit view. The vast, moon-like crater landscapes are unlike anything else in Hawaii — raw, rugged, and full of quiet wonder. Hiking through the Sliding Sands Trail was like stepping onto another planet. And the drive itself? Jaw-droppingly scenic with every twist and turn. Rangers and staff were helpful and passionate about preserving the park’s delicate ecosystem. Their advice and insights made the visit even more meaningful. If you’re visiting Maui, do not miss Haleakalā — it’s more than a national park, it’s a soul-stirring experience that reminds you of the raw power and beauty of nature.

The drive up was not bad at all, lots of twists and turns. As you get higher, there are no guide rails. Not a lot of people at the top. Walking trails and paths were in great shape. It was breathtakingly beautiful.

Absolutely incredible. You will be taken back by the impressive sights mother nature has to offer. Sitting at 10,300+ feet above sea level you are literally above the clouds looking at a dormant volcano. Where else but Hawai'i? Be careful, the trails are misleading. It's easy going down but coming up will test you - so take your time. Enjoy the sights and don't forget. You're very high up so air is a little thinner. To enter the park you will need to pay $30/ car, but it's well worth it.

I cannot recommend the sunrise over the crater high enough bc it was a magical experience. My only regret is not dressing warm enough. You're 10000 feet above sea level and it's sub 40 with the wind tearing through you like you're made of paper 📃
