Oh wow, another option for an acai bowl. Big whoop, right? Similar to the dozens of garlic shrimp joints on the North Shore of Oahu that are a dime a dozen, so are acai bowl shacks. Haleiwa Bowls is in a tiny shack along Kam Highway that can easily be missed. If you're heading towards Kahuku, another tiny shack that shares the same parking lot blocks most of Haleiwa Bowls.
Their menu items are made with organic ingredients and if you're not familiar with acai bowls, just note that they are not created equally. There are many different options depending on where you go, and I learned something new here: acai can be served in different textures. I've never really noticed the difference before. Their Hapa Acai Bowl and Mana Acai Bowl have the same toppings, but the acai is served differently. Hapa has a blended base of acai (like a thick smoothie), and the Mana has a frozen base of acai (like sorbet).
I opted for the small Mana Acai Bowl and it did not disappoint in size or flavor. You know when you go to get an acai bowl and the contents fill the bowl at just above the halfway point? Well, I didn't have that problem at Haleiwa Bowls. In fact, the contents were above the rim of the bowl, and the honey was dripping out.
If you're not into acai or want something different, they have other options like their mango, pineapple or chia pudding-based bowls. Don't forget the toppings and supplements. For a dollar each, toppings like fruit and condensed milk are available along with supplements like spirulina and collagen peptide.
Thirsty? Coffee, tea, smoothies, and kombucha are also on the menu. Customer service was good. They were friendly and worked efficiently. What better place to enjoy an acai bowl across the street from the beach? A nice treat and beautiful scenery? A winning combo.
