On the Grid : La Halle Saint Pierre

"Located at the foot of the sacred heart in the district of Montmartre, the holy stone hall is an eclectic place with its museum, café, library and gallery. Highlighting against the culture around its exciting exhibitions of "Hey". Modern art and pop culture, crafts, this place is full of visual talent and wealth." - Julien Ly

I love bookshops and this one is simply lovely. Interesting selection of art and literature books. There is a cafe when you can have a treat and drinks. They also organize events and art expos. It's walking distance from Sacre Coeur.

We came to Paris from Canada and visited many museums. This is the only one that charges for disabled people. The exhibition hall is very small and the ticket price is a bit expensive compared to the exhibits. There are many works of special people in it. If you are an art lover, you can come and see it. Otherwise, it is not worth coming here.

Loved our recent visit. The Gilbert Peyre exhibition was very good and the collection of art work from Iran was the cherry on the cake for my visit.

I always visit the gallery when i'm the neighbourhood. The exhibitions always are provocative, playful and striking. So i have no choice but to keep coming back.

Fantastic gallery. We were looking for contemporary art, something different that would really move us. We loved the 2 exhibits we saw: L’Art Brut d’Iran and Gilbert Peyre. Very inspiring and well curated. Staff/guides were friendly and knowledgeable. We highly recommend the bookstore too.

Really unique and beautiful space. It has a great selection of books ranging from all topics. Lots of nice postcards and art books as well. There is a cafe and a gallery space inside.

This delightful bookshop and café is an ideal place to visit before catching the funicular to the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, located just a short stroll from the top of Montmartre. The collection of distinctive art books is fascinating and definitely worth exploring. Although I didn’t try the café myself, it appears to be a lovely spot to unwind. Overall, it offers a charming atmosphere that’s well worth experiencing!

Yelp
This was worth the visit for some quirky and amazing folk art. There is an exhibit in a dark room that had so many fabulous pieces of art, that I thought we had seen the whole museum. But wait! Up some windy stairs is a sunlit room with about the same amount of art. Some things were creepy, some were a level of obsessive detail that required long minutes of marveling, and some were inspiring. 2 hours is a sufficient visit, and you will want to reserve time to peruse the bookstore and get a snack, lunch, or beverage at the café. The museum is in the garment district, and the art may inspire you to pick up some fabric to make a collage.

Yelp
A stunning cyclorama with two feature exhibits, a bright and airy bookstore, and a crazy busy cafe for an accessible 9€. We popped in for the Jeunet/Caro exhibit, because when in Paris, you Amélie. The design of the exhibit space is in a wagon wheel, with fixtures from the duos filmography segmented by "pie piece." An intriguing blend of movie props, original script notes, stills and videography paint a brilliant behind-the-scenes for The City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, MicMacs, Alien: Resurrection and more. A floor up, sunlight floods a year-long showcase residency called Turbulence in the Balkans, featuring Eastern European works but unfortunately, no brass bands. Sad dance party loss. Anyhoodle, the space open, well-designed and easy to get through in an hour or so. If the exhibits catch your fancy, pop in for an afternoon delight.

Yelp
I love the Halle Saint Pierre for its wonderful bookshop full of off-beat finds, its original art and chill café. It's also right in the middle of the bustling Marché Saint Pierre the wholesale fabric market just slightly off the tourist track but at the foot of Sacre Coeur and steps from Montmartre. Pop in for art, books, and a cup of tea and cake. It's the perfect spot at the foot of Sacre Coeur to wind down and then head out explore the 'quartier'. Right next door is one of my all time favorite shops as well @lamaisonduzerodechet that definitely needs to be checked out. I love everything in there. Enjoy! : @windmilldreams

Yelp
I am writing the first english review of this place, so hopefully the locals won't be too mad that i am sharing the secret of this exceptional, yet understated, museum of outsider art. Though as a dual French and Canadian, I feel it is my duty to share such resources with my anglo-compatriots. Located a stone's throw from the Abbesses metro, in the part of Montmartre that is decidedly off the beaten path, and world's apart from the nearby tourist traps of Pigalle and Sacre-Coeur (worthy in their own right to some extent), this is a true gem to be explored over an afternoon. On my last trip to Paris, I stumbled upon an amazing and profound retrospective of "Art Brut," a priceless experience at a minimal price tag (8 euros without student reductions get you an entry). The museum is located in a beautiful old glass building that used to house a covered market and exhibits are on two levels, so vast. There is also a café, which is affordable and mellow, and an interesting bookstore filled with contemporary and outsider art books and resources. La Halle SP, also hosts shows, lectures and workshops including art therapy. A truly unique and quality space, I plan to visit each time I land in Paris.
