18 Places Where You Just Have to Stop and Smell the Flowers

"Visit this Belgian forest at just the right time in the spring, and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a dream. The Hallerbos—also known as the Blue Forest—is covered with millions of bluebells from late April into May. The otherworldly transformation of the 1,360-acre woods has a floral carpet brushing up against the lean beech trees as far as your eye takes you. Visitors can stroll the winding paths, and watch for rabbits and deer that wander through the green and azure woods.  While the woods, located in the Halle municipality between Flanders and Wallonia, is not far from Brussels, it’s often overlooked by visitors. The phenomenon of “bluebell forests” is not uncommon in Europe, particularly in its oldest woods, but the Hallerbos is unique for the density and beauty of its blooms.  While Hallerbos is mostly known for its bluebells, the forest features nature of all kinds in every season including oak, ash, pine, beech, giant sequoia and larch trees. As well as wildlife such as squirrels, foxes and almost 100 different species of birds." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

"Belgium's Magical Blue Carpet Hallerbos (Flemish) or Bois de Halle (French) is a beech forest just south of Brussels . It's a popular spot for walking, cycling and horseback-riding. Every spring, for a few short weeks, the forest makes a magical transformation into a blue carpeted wonderland. Millions of tiny bluebell flowers bloom under the shade of the beech trees and people flock to the forest to catch a glimpse. Timing is everything, too soon and the bluebells aren't out yet; too late and you've missed the show for another year. But that's what makes seeing it so special."

Another beautiful gem in Belgium. Went there on Friday eve just before first shuttle starts operating to avoid crowds. Hyacinths are not in full bloom yet, but the peace around makes up for it. Saw a lovely deer too!

Famous for the blue hyacinth, but before they show up the forrest floor is covered with anemones, and at the right time, you will see both. The forrest itself is remarkable, also outside the hyacinth festival, hilly with great tracks and trails….

My husband and I went to appreciate the bluebells (Wilde Hyacint) that are in full bloom. It was absolutely breathtaking and I was so happy that I could experience it.

A huge nature park full of beautiful blue bell flowers. We hiked around the recommend trail for around 3 hours. You can easily make this a whole day trip if you want to. Nice place to visit around April during spring to see the flowers bloomed.

Hallerbos is a stunning forest in Belgium, famous for its bluebell carpet that blooms in spring. The forest offers scenic walks, a forest museum, and a rich history. It is a great place to enjoy nature and relax. Hallerbos is managed by the Agency for Nature and Forest, and is accessible by public transport or car. I highly recommend visiting this forest, especially during the bluebell season.

A wonderful park, 30 minutes from Brussels. Many hiking and biking trails. Purple Zvoncic magically colours the entire forest, which is an incredible sight. This is not a phenomenon. There are forests like this all over the world, but the Belgians have protected this environment well and made it an attraction. In any case, a good walk and a wonderful view.
