We recently stayed here for the second time, celebrating our wedding anniversary. We had a nice stay once before, and we were really looking forward to it!
To start things off, we got there about 20 minutes early and asked if we could get to our room then and they said no. Okay, I understand that there are check-in times for a reason, and early check-in are not always possible. But they said that they would call us as soon as the room was ready. So we went around town and picked up a couple of things for our stay, and then just started heading back since we hadn't heard from them and it was after 4 o'clock. They checked us in and didn't mention anything about not calling us.
The directions to the room that they gave us were really unhelpful. It was hard to figure out from the map and there aren't any clear signs. So my husband had to go back to the lobby to ask how to get to our room. The employee was super nice and walked him to the room so we'd know exactly how to get there. Upon entering, the room looked really nice! But as we looked closer... It was kind of a hot mess.
The pillows on the sofa were torn, and the sofa itself was stained. There was trash between the sofa and the wall, as well as under the dishwasher. The refrigerator was only mildly cool. The towel bars in the bathroom were rusty. There was no fan in the bathroom, either, which makes sense then, seeing the rust on the towel bars. Our sliding glass door/windows were so dirty it made it hard to see the beautiful ocean view. Our TV cable was disconnected/off, and the box was behind the tv in a jumbled mess of cords. Luckily my husband is in tech and quickly figured it out. But still, someone else would've probably had to call the front desk to fix it. And while I DO want a clean hotel room, the bathroom smelled so strongly of bleach, it actually burned my eyes. (Again, a vent/fan in there would've been helpful.)
Our second day there, they were doing some maintenance. I think they were pressure washing, I couldn't actually see, but I could hear it... For hours, and hours. It was really annoying.
And then a couple of things that were beyond the hotel's control, but also kind of ruined our experience: the first night there, around 5am someone tried to enter our room from the sliding glass door. Thank goodness our dog scared him away! The second night a woman was screaming someone's name over and over... I assume it was either a lost child or a dog. It was really disconcerting and sad. (Though it seemed they found whoever they were looking for after a few minutes.) The next morning, someone let their dog take a giant dump literally 5 feet from our sliding glass door and decided to just kick some rocks over the poop. So then our room smelled really bad for the next few hours (because our window and slider were open to cool the room -- no a/c) and we didn't get to enjoy our outdoor seating for the rest of the stay. Again, I know that the hotel is not responsible for these things, but it really just added to a terrible stay.
I will say this, the beds and pillows were comfortable. And that's important! And the extras (like 2 tvs, a fireplace, some plates/cups/utensils, etc.) were appreciated. The employees (especially the person who delivered our food from Georgie's and the other one who took us to our room) were super friendly and helpful.
But for the price that we paid, I feel like these rooms should be kept up a LOT better. I feel like they should be at least $80 less per night based on our experience.
Unfortunately we won't be staying there again and wouldn't recommend it to others.
