Halls Gap Hotel Restaurant

Went here for dinner with my family .I ordered the scotch fillet with chips and veg and peppercorn sauce. The steak was really nice and cooked well, the vegetables were delicious, the sauce was a little too creamy for my liking and overall was a fantastic meal. My dad ordered the lamb shanks and they looked fantastic. We’ve been here a few times and it’s always quality food and I definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area. There is also a playground and big lawn area with outdoor seating which is nice. However, $16 for a jug of lemon squash was a bit extreme!

We visited Halls Gap Hotel during the AFL Grand Final long weekend and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was perfect for families with kids, thanks to the indoor and outdoor playgrounds that kept the little ones entertained. The food came out quickly, and both the quality of the food and the service were excellent. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

We visited this restaurant on a busy Saturday evening, so a wait was expected. However, we ended up waiting over 30 minutes for our food, during which we were mistakenly served other dishes several times. When our steak finally arrived, it was unfortunately somewhat cold and appeared overcooked, not matching the medium-rare we had requested. Given the price, we kindly asked for it to be checked. Disappointingly, the same steak, partially eaten, was simply reheated and returned to us without any explanation. When we raised this issue again, the manager or chef came over to clarify the situation. He firmly asserted that their definition of medium-rare aligned with what we were served. While he offered us an alternative dish, I felt a bit rushed to decide. The overall response to the situation left me feeling disappointed, as it seemed the focus was more on maintaining their standards rather than addressing the initial issue. I hope this review helps the team improve their service, as the food and environment have great potential.

If having to book and a full house indicates anything it says the food is good and the place is popular, both spot on, it is popular and the food is good. We would recommending booking at any time of year just to be sure. The meals were great, my steal cooked just how I liked it, Med/Rare, perfect, great chips and veggies, the chicken breast would have to be one of the best as it was so juicy and tender, well done to that chef, thanks for a great night and a wonderful meal. Terrific views of the ranges and plenty of wild life, great outdoors area so in the warmer months it would be even better to go to....

Great food and service. Family friendly with a kids menu. It was a busy Sunday night and long weekend (School holidays). They still accommodated walk in customers.

The food was beautiful! This is the first time to try the kangaroo tasting plate, way much better than I thought, so tender and not gamy. The steak is also very good! Highly recommend.

Great little restaurant, food was good. Both lamb dishes were super dry, but the others were tasty. Great selection of local wines. Nice area outside to kick a footy around and enjoy with family and friends.

Beautiful scotch fillet for dinner matched with lovely friendly service. All the meals coming from the kitchen looked great, full credit to the cook!! Will have to come back for a Parma as they looked epic.
