Halona Blowhole Lookout

An easy stop to see one of the natural and scenic views of the coastline. Parking is a bit tricky since it is a small lot and popular stop to see the blowhole.

Gorgeous views. I absolutely love being next to the ocean especially when there are beautiful views to go along with it. This lookout point was not very busy when we went t which was on a Tuesday around noon. Plenty or parking for us, although I can see the lot getting depending on the time of day/year. We were able to witness the blowhole which, depending on the ocean that might not always be a possibility.

If you want to appearance a blowhole, this is a great place to watch one. Depending on the timing of the waves and the wind and currents you will definitely see the evidence of a blowhole. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be down there by it. There's plenty of signs out saying don't even think about it.

We stopped off here on the way to Kailua. Parking was limited, but people come and go quickly. Looking out over the Pacific was impressive and the water was so blue. The blowhole wasn’t that active, but still fun to see. People were going down to the cove below and swimming, but that seemed to present an increased risk of dying to me. Pretty cool for a quick stop off the highway.

amazing place to be . the blowhole was not very strong while we were there but it was definitely worth going . it was a few nice pictures within the videos because you never know when a good one is coming but amazing pictures and a good time . worth the visit . there is also a beach at the bottom , the water looks pretty aggressive so just be careful if you decide to get in the waves and current are very strong

Halona Blowhole Lookout is a really cool spot to take in the ocean. The waves hit the cliffs hard and shoot up through the blowhole with serious force, it’s amazing to watch. There are also little tide pools with crabs and tiny fish that get swept in by the waves. You can’t swim here, but for the views and the way the ocean moves, it’s definitely worth visiting.

Beautiful! Took the hop on -hop off trolley tour. Great way to see points of interest. Enough time here to enjoy the scenery and catch a couple of blow hole cycles.

This place is beautiful definitely bring a flashlight so you can walk through the tunnel. Go hiking on the sides there make sure you bring good walking sandals, not flip-flops to go check out where the blow hole is. Be careful, very strong waves. But again beautiful scenery.

Got to visit and see in action the ONE OF ONLY 3 MAJOR blowholes in the world! Such a cool viewing spot on the east side of Oahu next to Eternity Beach. Definitely a must see!

Stopped here after swimming at Hanauma Bay, a nice place to lookout and take a break from driving. Located on the east side of Oahu. We just stayed at the top and looked out for a few minutes. Free parking lot, most people seem to stay for a few minutes then leave.

A great scenic lookout spot to see the ocean during the day or for star gazing at night. They have a decent amount of parking, but it fills up fast. The water is crystal clear and if the waves are strong enough the blowhole will spout water. It'll give a water geyser effect that can be as high as 30 feet. It's a great place to take tourists. They love it. We took my uncle who was visiting from out of town and he was thrilled.

There are lots of blowholes around the word with a few in the Hawaiian Islands. This is well visited and one seen in many movies and TV shows. It is pretty cool and especially early in the morning with the sun somewhat behind it!

This place is definitely worth a visit! I'm not entirely sure how it was naturally created but when the waves hit just right the blow hole shoots up into the sky with a magnificent spray of water that will amaze you. It took a while for it to "blow" the first time but once the right set of waves started hitting it continued to spray through the blow hole. The pictures don't do it justice...

Take a quick stop at Halona Blowhole Lookout for a lava tube formed by volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago. When waves crash into the coast, water pressure builds and forces ocean spray through the tube shooting it into the air. Very pleasing to see from a far, just not to close to the blowhole as it can be dangerous.

Definitely a must stop! It didn't take long before we got to see it in true action again and again. Glad we came on such a crazy wave day! There was a good amount of people watching, but we didn't have any issues finding parking. We weren't able to get closer, but I'm not sure if that's because of the time of year that we went or if it is no longer something that is allowed. Hopefully the former because when I come back, getting up close is definitely something that I would want to do. Views looking all around the area were beautiful, not just the blowhole itself.

Beautiful and legendary geyser lookout, right off Kalanianaʻole Highway in East Oahu. I didn't have a chance to stop by due to a time crunch, but the blowhole remains the same and majestic like Big Sur, less stinky, and more blue. You might get lucky if you spot a whale during winter. Expect a lot of tourists and locals with their cameras. Make sure to hold your hat tight due to the heavy wind on the lookout. Parking is available when you come early. I wish I could send the Karens and butthole exes to the blowhole so they can experience a rude awakening like their attitude lol.

One word, heaven! I could relax at Halona blowhole lookout all day. The only downside was the crowd of people when I arrived. I wanted to walk down to the rocks below to get a better view of it all. Sadly, time was limited, so I didn't get to walk that far down. Regardless, the view from where I was standing was amazing.

Very beautiful lookout with the beach and cave down the hill. View from lookout is priceless and draw me to go down to the beach. I visit this lookout during a shoulder season, so it is not too crowded. The pathway down to the beach must be carefully walk especially if you can balance yourself very well. If you cannot go down, the view from the top is good enough to be safe than sorry. The beach down there is also very beautiful but no safeguard and you must take care of yourself. The wave is super powerful even the walkway going down has a sign warning of dangerous.

Second stop of the tour. A famous tourist spot which is a rock formation and a geyser on the Oahu island overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It was so windy that it blew my hat away but luckily my daughter was able to catch it !! Iconic Scenic Spot - Beautiful Drive & Powerful Views Halona Blowhole is one of my absolute favorite spots on the island. The drive there alone is breathtaking--winding coastal roads, cliffs, and endless ocean views. It's the kind of scenery that reminds you why Hawaiʻi is so special. Once you arrive, the lookout offers a stunning view of the ocean and blowhole. On big swell days, the blowhole puts on a powerful and mesmerizing show that never gets old. There's plenty of parking, but please don't leave valuables in your car--break-ins do happen. Also nearby is a path down to the famous Eternity Beach, featured in the 1950s film From Here to Eternity. It's a beautiful spot and worth the short hike down if conditions are safe. Please be respectful of this sacred place--I've seen trash scattered around, especially on windy days when the trash liners blow out and dump garbage everywhere. Take a moment to clean up after yourself and help preserve the beauty. This place is a true gem. Come for the views, stay for the energy--but treat it with the aloha it deserves.

The Halona Blowhole is a rock formation and a blowhole on O'ahu, off the Hanauma Bay at Halon Point. The views of the ocean are impressive, especially the Halona Beach Cove, with its varying shades of blues. We saw a few individuals taking a swim as well as do fishing off the side. If you can make it here, DO IT! It's so incredible and a memory you will cherish forever. Go in the water and enjoy it.

Exploring the island we came across the Halona Blowhole Lookout, Oahu's geyser. The water and the sky were brilliant blue. We stayed for quite awhile just watching waves crash against the rocks. Definitely stop to enjoy if you're driving the coast. 5

Pretty sick views of the south shore at this scenic look out point. You can also go down some rocks to swim or fish. Lots of parking and lots of tourists. The entire drive to get here I recommend if you're planning on visiting Kailua or Kaneohe, take the long way around the island and stop by the blowhole on your way there, then you can cut through the island on your way back.

Amazing experience. The beauty of the east side of the island of Oahu'. Watching the beauty of nature was exhilarating and humbling at the same time.

Probably one of my favorite stops on the entire Island of Oahu! I've always wanted to go down and check out the blowhole. We parked at the overlook. It was a little stressful waiting for a parking spot. Once we secured a parking spot we hiked down to the water. It was pretty easy to get down there but we did have nice running shoes on. Probably would be hard with flip flops. The beauty is really indescribable. It's like from a scene from a movie. There is a sandy beach area that we placed our dry towel while we got into the water. It just gave me such a sense of peacefulness! Would highly recommend.

A good stop to make along the way if you're driving along the East side of the Island. There's great views of the ocean and then there's the coveted blowhole that everyone comes to see when the waves hit the shoreline in the right spot. Apparently people take the time to hike down to get a closer look, which we didn't have the time to do. Go at your own risk.

Be sure to take a road trip and see the blowhole! Beautiful and cool at the same time. They have a large parking area and they paved viewing area overlooking the blowhole. We also hiked down the rocky path to go out and stand near the blowhole and waves crashing against the rocks. Pretty cool. But warning that it's rocky and requires you to be careful. Wear good shoes and take it slow. There is a small beachy area there where folks were getting in the water so if that's your thing you can always pack your swim stuff and enjoy! It was an overcast day when we went but the rain subsided long enough for us to visit.

Gorgeous and a beautiful drive to boot, just be prepared for heavy traffic and extra travel time. The blowhole area features a sandy beach. It's not hard to get down there if you're able bodied, but there are no stairs and older people or those with disabilities may not make it. People were jumping in the water and they seemed to know how to stay safe. Out of the protected area though the waves are wild and massive so please stay safe. There is a place to the left for easy scrambling but the tide can creep up quick so use good judgement. At the beach, there's a tunnel that goes under the highway one could crawl through if they were inclined, and on the other side there's a bit of an illicit beaten down "trail" that you'll want to avoid so that area can recover. If you've got small kids, scope that tunnel first so they don't end up getting in trouble. Overall very glad I came here and one of the many wonders of Oahu hurrah.

One of those iconic vista points that you must stop at whilst driving along the Kalanianaole highway. The Halona Blowhole is quite magical to see, especially during high tide when the water spurts are shooting out into the air. But even during low tide, it can still be an incredible sight. There's something so wonderful about seeing and hearing beautiful waves crashing against jagged rocks. Parking is tough, mainly because many people also use this parking lot for day parking while they're swimming in the beach cove down below. There are several names for this cove (Halona beach cove, Cockroach cove, Eternity beach), but do yourself a favor and take the trek down there. You'll not only get that much closer to the blowhole, but you'll also be able to see how gorgeous the cove waters are up close and personal. Many people come here to snorkel since the water is so clear and shallow, and since it's less busy and hectic to enter when compared to nearby Hanauma Bay Preserve. But even if you don't make it down to the beach cove, the view from the lookout point still serves its' purpose. It's an easy stop along the scenic drive down the Kalanianaole hwy (aka highway 72). If you're planning on doing this scenic drive, don't miss out on the sights of the striking Halona Blowhole along the way.

Nice lookout to get some good scenic photos. Plenty of parking. Didn't spend more than 10 minutes here because there isn't much to do other than take some scenic photos but worth checking out. Saw some people walking down on the beach so there might be a pathway.. I say might, because I also saw people walking on areas which were definitely not walking paths.. so who is to say :p

Just a short 25 minute drive from Waikiki to the lookout for the Blowhole. You could also see it on an organized day trip like we did; we did an all day circle island tour and this was our first stop in the morning. It's very popular so if you do it on your own or with a tour expect it to be busy most of the day. There's a large parking area for both big tour buses and cars. You could spend 10-45 minutes here depending on if you're trying to get that perfect shot or video. Either way definitely worth a quick stop to see it.

Halona Blowhole is a rock formation and a blowhole on the island of Oahu. You can find it off of Hanauma Bay at Hālona Point overlooking the Pacific Ocean. In Hawaiian hālona means "lookout." It's good advice as the speed of the water as it exits the hole will give you a permeate pompodore if you invade it's comfort zone. The ajacent beach is uncrowded. It is a bit windy but beautiful & remote.

Quick pull off of the highway to see this large blowhole, along with some other massive wave crashing just SW of this pull-off. I believe that is at the pull off before Haloma Blowhole. Busy, with lots of tourists and locals alike, make sure you take the ten minutes and take some video of this! The kids will love it. Slo Mo vids on an iPhone highly recommended.

Cute place for pictures! The water goes up real high and makes a great back drop (pun intended)! It was also a nice area to walk around if you can safely crawl down.

For our first adventure, my husband took the kids and I here our first morning in Oahu. We woke up at 5:00am to get ready to leave before 5:30am. Our hotel was in Waikiki which is around a 20 minute drive to Halona. We arrived 10 minutes before sunrise (sunrise was at 6:07am) and parked in the parking lot which was not crowded at all. It was extremely windy, but that didn't stop us. This natural wonder is off the beaten path along the coast, the water was a nice beautiful blue, it was high tide, so the blowhole was very active when we came. I'm glad we came here and wished we could've came back again to bring the rest of our family here to see it. If you're visiting Oahu, I highly recommend coming here to watch the sunrise at the overlook. It's a very scenic stop, easy to find, parking was not an issue to watch the sunrise and you don't have to hike. I'm sure it gets packed throughout the day, but take my advice and go to watch the sunrise, it's beautiful!

This was on my list of things to see while visiting Hawaii. It was pretty cool. I didn't get full experience but I did see water shoot up out a little bit. Great location to take in nature and to take pictures.

Very pretty area with parking lot and overlook. Great views of the ocean and cliffs. A stop at many tours offered on the island. Great for pictures.

So I'll be the pessimist and kickoff with the low party of my review. The actual blowhole itself wasn't as spectacular as I thought it would be, but it was still definitely cool. The more fun part was being bale to hike down the side of the embankment to get close to the waters edge and watch a nice large wave splash OVER my family...lol. If you decide to come here, there is a fairly large parking area up top. To get to the water/beach area there is a small set of stairs on the right side that turns into a mini cliff hike. Make sure you have decent shoes as it does get slippery in areas. If you decide to, you can also get into the water at the small beach down there. I'm not a fan of unknown water, especially when it's churning with waves so i didn't dip my toes. All in, it was a nice pit stop to take in some more of the natural beauty of the island. If you're in the area, definitely worth the stop.

Tide is definitely a primary, if not the only, factor on this experience. The parking is a bit congested and is disguised as s typical scenic lookout but a bit larger. Once you park you will quickly see where to go by watching other people and you'll have to look pretty hard to see the actual hole if the tide is too low. It's probably be the spot where alot of people are climbing down to passing the "do not cross" signs. If the tide is high, you will see the hole fill with water and what comes next is truly an awesome experience. A nice and quick spot to stretch your legs and see some beautiful views regardless of the tide.

This is an easy stop and just further east of Hanauma Bay. although the lookout is very scenic, if you can, take the trail down to the waves and enjoy Mother Nature in action. The waves are pretty scary, so I would recommend only strong swimmers attempt to jump into the oncoming waves. Because we at low tide, we could not see the blow hole in true form and needed to enjoy the crashing waves as it flowed into the small bay. I was able to make my climb in just sandals, but because the rocks are sharp, I would recommend tennis shoes or water socks.

Located off State Hwy 72 in Honolulu. This is place where the ocean water blows out of the rocks via a hole as the waves crash into the rocks and water goes underneath the rocks and sprouts up from the bottom of the rocks. It's a cool sight to see when just the right amount water hits. Overall a good place that has views of the ocean and waves crashing on the rocks.

Great view, though when we arrive, it's not sunny and has some light rain. But the view is spectacular and i wish i will come back on a sunny day!

People come here for the blowhole. But the true "hidden" gem here is the beach to the right on the other side of the lookout. A short 3 min hike will lead you down the beach where you can hang out, and pretend to be an Instagram model with badly taken photos. And if you feel a bit adventurous you can jump off the cliffs right next to the beach. Don't worry, you're jumping from 5 ft hight or so. A lot of people do that. Or you can stand on the beach and wait for the big waves to hit you. Either way, this place is a gem. You can find blowholes anywhere but the beach is great.

Okay this was AMAZING! So windy, like literally the windiest place I have ever been in my life but absolutely stunning. The waves were insane and crashing on the rocks like crazy but it was so beautiful. The blowhole was really spouting high when we were there, a lot of the times it would spray almost to the top of where we were. Leave hats, glasses, accessories, anything that can blow off - leave it in the car or it WILL blow off. I had a flower clipped securely in my hair and a minute outside and it was hanging loose. One of the most beautiful natural sights I have seen!

Our little one loved the views here and seeing the blowhole! My husband hiked down the beach and over to the rocky area and said there was a tunnel as well. Wish I could've tagged along with him! The view is beautiful. There were people swimming and hanging out at the small little beach. If you can, try to walk down there. It was a little too steep for my dad and little one so we stayed at the top. Plenty of parking!

Love this spot in hawaii. You can get close to the blowhole if you climb down. Wear sneakers. It is very rocky. If you are lucky, there are turtles swimming by the rocks.

Spectacular views from the lookout With over 1,000 photos I'm sure you get the sense that the Hālona Blowhole is one of the must-see scenic spots to checkout while in O'ahu. I've only seen it once before when I was 11 years old when my family and I lived here in Hawai'i. To get there drive along Highway 72 past Hanauma Bay and Koko Head Crater. It's only a 20-minute drive outside of Waikīkī. There's plenty of parking space but that would depend on how many tourists you'll encounter at the time of your visit. The Hālona Blowhole is located right next to Halona Beach Cove where the kissing scene in "From Here too Eternity" was filmed. It is one of Hawai'i's natural wonders, created thousands of years ago when molten lava tubes were formed from volcanic eruptions. Enjoy and marvel at the views from the lookout. It took a while for me to capture the ocean waves hit the blowhole and go high... it was amazing to see. There aren't any active volcanoes on O'ahu anymore, but the blowhole remains a must-see scenic stop. I enjoyed the beautiful scenic drive of the coastline to this location. Not as dramatic as we hoped, but still interesting to see and easy to access. A parking lot is located nearby so it is a short walk to the view point. Walls line the lot and the view area for safety without obstructing the view. While driving around the island we saw this scenic point and decided to stop. Since the blowhole is more active in stronger winds and high tide, it wasn't as active during our visit. According to Wikipedia, it can shoot water up to 30 feet in the air. Even if you go at a calmer time, the rock formations are worth the visit. You may also see whales during winter months!

How could I possibly do anything but give 5 stars to something with the word "blowhole" in it's name? I can think of so many things in life and people that I come across that I would love to assign it to for many unmentionable reasons. But all sophomoric humor aside, the Halona Blowhole is a good attraction that exemplifies some of the natural and unique beauty that Hawaii is known for. It is a perfect site to visit when you need a break from the beach. It is about a 25 min drive to the east from Waikiki and best of all, it is free. The parking lot is small and crowded. Be careful because there are cars jockeying for a parking spot while pedestrians walk around everywhere like sheeple without a sheepdog. And don't forget to lock your car and keep your valuables out of sight. It is not unheard of for theft of opportunity to occur when you are distracted and looking the other direction at the blowing orifice. Walk up to the railing and generally within seconds, large enough swells will undermine the rocky shelf below and shoot up through the infamous puka. Sometimes it is a stream of fine mist, other times it is a violent eruption of the sea shooting dozens of feet up in the air. Regardless, it is always entertaining and even more so if the occasional tourist disregards the warnings to not get too close and gets the well-deserved douche from Mother Nature. For the price of admission, this is a pretty good front row seat to one of the neatest shows on Earth.

This is a must see spot on your drive around the island. Make sure to come during high tide! The views are spectacular but watch your hats as it can get quite windy. The blowhole was pretty easy to spot. They have a parking lot that can get packed at times. Climb over the fence onto the rocks at your own risk but they are slick and wet.

Won't try to describe this place because I don't have the right words -- this is just a stop that y'all will have to check out while in town. The beauty of the water is unmatched. The sun stands tall and proud over these rocks and cliffs, so wear a hat and apply sunscreen if you're able to. The blowhole is a lot of fun to watch. Just be patient -- it pops up at different time intervals. If you hang out long enough, you'll get to see water shoot up at different heights. Remember, the larger the waves -- the larger the spray. Be careful and stay smart while trying to get closer for pictures. This lookout is one too beautiful to pass up so make sure to take some time out to stop and enjoy.

I visited here and hiked many trails on 09/13 during my first visit to Hawai'i & posted a vlog! Search "Nikko Gandia Travels" on YT. Tried to see the blowhole but it was low tide. Check to see if it's high tide when you plan to visit. At least there's a nice cove on the right side.

This place should definitely be on your checklist when you visit Hawaii. There are a few lookouts along highway 72. All of them give you breathtaking ocean views but this one also offers you a natural wonder, the blowhole. Just wait patiently and you will see the water exploding from the blowhole from time to time. This place used to be packed with tourists but there were only a few people when I stopped by last month. Hopefully we will see the parking lot getting occupied again. But even if there are a lot of people and you don't seem to get a spot, just pull over and wait for a few minutes and you should be able to get one. I guess tourists usually don't stay there for too long before continuing their trip to the next lookout. Happened to me quite a few times. It's always windy there so hold onto your hats or scarfs so they don't get blown away. I saw people climbing down the rocks but not sure if that's a good idea especially during high tides. Oh I heard you may spot whales and turtles too if you are lucky!

Halona Blowhole is a must-check out area in the East Side -- the entire East Side of Oahu is beautiful and definitely worth a road trip, but stopping by at these gems and seeing the natural wonders is truly exciting as well! There is a small hike down to get to the beach and you have to walk a good bit to get to the blowhole. We weren't lucky that day, and we weren't able to see the water pumping out (though we got slight teasers and previews), but overall -- it's just a great place to hang out. If you want to swim -- you can go to the beach. You can also just take in the views and enjoy the moment while patiently waiting for the blowhole to make a move. Overall - an absolute beautiful place to stop by and I would highly recommend anyone to stop by to check it out!

Sightseeing on the Island of Oahu... If you're visiting Honolulu, The Halona Blowhole is a cool Point of Interest. In the Hawaiian language, "halona" means "lookout". There is a safe lookout area with guardrails for everyone to enjoy the spectacular views. The parking lot is paved, free, and clean. From this vantage point, you can see Sandy Beach on the left, Eternity Beach on the right, and The Blow Hole straight ahead. The Blow Hole is an amazing natural phenomenon. It is made from a lava tube. The wave action pushes the ocean water through the tube and sprays the water upwards into a fountain. If the wave isn't strong enough, instead of a fountain, there's a more of a mist. If you want to see a fountain, come when it's high tide. Be patient because you cannot force Mother Nature to produce the results that you want... lol! Overall, it's a fun, free, simple, and unique activity for all to enjoy! Tip: on a clear day, you can see other Hawaiian Islands (Maui, Molokai, and Lanai) in the distance
