Super nice people that had my bike fixed quick! Dropped it off with a tire and chain issue and they had it fixed up in an hour. Decent pricing too for the turnaround time.

Daniel, was an extreme help knew what he was talking about with bike specs and was quick to service me! Was in and out with perfected service best shop in houston hands down, Gabriel was also a comedian helped lighten the mood!!

I highly recommend this place, everyone here is extremely nice and they care about customers so good! Daniel, DJ and Gabriel are awesome!!! If I could I would give them 100 stars!!! Other bike stores are horrible! Come to ham cycles!!

Purchased a new bike from Hams back in Feb 2024. I couldn’t be happier with the customer service and my new wheels. I’ve replaced the saddle, bar tape and pedals during this time. The State pedals are thin and slippery, strongly recommend replacing them with a meatier pedal like Odyssey. Take advantage of the 15% off merch and 6 months of free maintenance you will receive with your purchase. Highly recommend! Edit: Updated photo of replacement saddle. Original saddle was too stiff (silver studs). I replaced it with a different State saddle with more cushion and comfort for longer rides.

Great bike shop. When they couldn't get something done they recommended me to another amazing local bike shop. 10/10 people Update: recently bought a new bike through them. Amazing service and offered 15% off accessories with my purchase of a new bike and gave 6 months of free service.

This shop has been the mainstay of my bicycle maintenance for years. The staff are always helpful and engaging, and have dealt with numerous requests promptly,respectfully, and at fair prices. They continue to be my go-to for all my cycling needs.

This neighborhood establishment is worth supporting! My husband and I moved to the city from the suburbs and wanted new bikes to roll through the city, so we stopped by Hamcycles who had recently moved from the location on Dunlavy to a larger space on Fairview. We purchased a couple of cool ass bikes and are excited about putting some miles on them. The service was more than we would've received at any large, commercial establishment. We are novice bike riders and they were informative and answered all of the important questions. They gave tips and advice on the different styles and helped us select bikes that fit our lifestyle. The store is cool, too. They have some pretty witty merch that's so appropriate for our neighborhood!

Stopped here to service my son's bike. Everyone was very friendly and took care of me quickly. Love their tshirts and other merch.

Purchased a new road bike from HAM and am so impressed with DJ and Joe's customer service! They were so attentive and committed to helping me find a bike I would enjoy for the long run. Also shout out to Joe for putting together my bike so quickly. Highly recommend this store.

It's was really cute local bike shop. The customer service was pretty good. However, bike assemble took longer than the time they give me.

Please save yourself the time and do not come here for any bike repairs. I went in because a Mongoose mountain bike I purchased 6 months ago from Academy for $399 had a broken pedal. Took my bike on a Tuesday evening around 5:30pm. I was told by the mechanic that since it was late he would get to it the next day and it could possibly be around $40. He struggled for a bit to loosen the bolt needed and even lit a torch and tried to do something that way. Seemed extreme but what do I know. No word for 2 days about the bike then after checking on it, I was told they received a large order of bikes and he will get to mine the next day. Clearly my bike was a low priority. Another day passes and I was given a new quote of $95. No problem. The next day I was informed my bike isn't repairable and it would be cheaper to buy a new bike. They said labor would be around $150 plus parts so clearly no, I can't replace it. I don't like to argue so I just left. Anyone with some sense can gather that something went wrong at the shop and they destroyed it beyond the repairs that I initially took it there for. If you take a part off and can't even put it back on, does that not mean you broke it in the process? To add insult to injury, the nonchalant don't care attitude of "it'll be cheaper to replace it" is insane especially when you don't know the price I paid. Why not just give the customer a quote and let them decide what's worth fixing? In conclusion, find another shop to visit for bike repairs if you want to avoid a week long headache that'll lead to disappointment

John and Alex were very friendly answered a lot of my questions. So impressed by the customer service here. This bike shop has so many options that are hard to find in other bike shops. Great place to buy a fixie single speed or Dutch bike. I was really impressed by the customer service and bike selection here. It's really refreshing to see bikes that are both beautiful and affordable- this shop is one of a kind. John and Alex- thank you so much and keep killing it!!

A relatively new bike shops located where Montrose transitions into midtown. Paradoxically, there is a lot of parking for cars. Service is fast and friendly, and I think honest. The owner was willing to look through his inventory for his cheapest option for me (I needed a tire replaced that got taco-ed) I would go there again.

I purchased a new bike from retrospec and it came with a bent wheel. As soon as I came in, Joe greeted me and quickly assisted me in replacing the wheel with the new one.

Super helpful and knowledgable. Ive been in a couple times now and both times they helped me figure out what I was looking for and got me the best deal they could.

This owner will change his tune about repair estimates and then trash you on a bad review as he does everyone else who is not happy about his lack of professionalism while telling you one thing and doing another. After the repair on a bike I bought there developed a clicking noise now the entire crank shaft is coming apart after his so called $56.00 repair that's was going to be no charge if I bought a bike rack then that was no longer the deal after the repair had been done. Today I ended up walking back home with the bike for two miles now that his so called repair two months ago has resulted in the entire crank shaft coming apart. My advice is to shop somewhere else. The guy is a complete snot if you aren't happy about his lack of ethics after getting about $450.00 for a piece of junk..

My experience at this bike shop started very positively but ended abysmally. The shop kept setting expectations that they did not keep. I test rode several bikes and the promised to have a bike ready for me multiple times on different dates. When I finally got to the shop to pick up my bike today they said it wasn't even built and that I will need to pre-pay the full amount for them to be motivated to build it for me at all. This final person I talk to also said that at a minimum they should've received a deposit, which I would have been happy to pay if I had been asked in the first place. She was extremely rude and expressed clearly that she did not want my business. It's a shame when a customer is so excited about a product and money is no issue but Customer Service gets in the way of an easy and satisfying transaction. Cool bikes but too cool for you service. Update 1: Owner and manager contacted me to address the issue and coach their staff Update 2: I bought the bike in spite of the experience because they are the only reseller for the brand I wanted in this city. Customer service got up to "normal" levels but there was no attempt to "delight". My opinion hasn't changed but I love my new bike.

Brought my bike in for a much needed tune up! Had a very personalized experience and was very happy with the check ins and updates throughout the process. Great value, and my bike rides like a dream!

Came in on a Sunday morning and left with bikes! This shop is seriously the best. Charlotte greeted us as soon as we showed up and dove right in giving detail about bikes that would be perfect for the type of activity we would want to do. She was so personable and informative! Thankfully they have a wonderful stock (and can adjust bikes to fit your needs), so my boyfriend ended up swapping out the handlebars on his purchase of a Retrospec Harper in matte black. I purchased a Retrospec Beaumont in Eggshell, and although we didn't feel any pressure at all to purchase, we want to support local during the pandemic. I urge you to do the same! Visit this bike shop, you won't be disappointed.

The yelp address I think it incorrect. Guessing they moved recently because I saw a shop open up I think within the last year on Tuam (east of Gennessee). Anyway I walked my bike there after it fell and would not break. Isaac fixed it really fast and I'm really grateful. Highly recommend!!

I've been using Ham cycles for a few years now to get tune ups and I purchased a new bike from them last year. I always enjoy going to the shop and interacting with the employees- all of them are nice and knowledgeable, and work gets done in a timely manner.

Excellent service, we were greeted as soon as we came in the door. We needed a bike flat fixed and it was done in no time. Beautiful selection of bikes for sale and many accessories. We definitely return for any bike related reasons!

HAM Cycles was a great shop to get my new bike assembled. After ordering a bike online and receiving the huge cardboard box with parts neatly packed away inside, I was a little overwhelmed by the thought of having to put it together. Rather than struggle through YouTube instructional videos, I figured I'd try out this local shop some of my friends had recommended to give me a hand. 30 minutes and $53 later, I had a brand new bike adjusted for my height and ready to roll. Not only does HAM Cycles do repairs and sell new bikes but they also carry parts, accessories, locks, helmets, socks and other bike gear. Parking is somewhat limited and there isn't a ton of space out front to test out different rides but otherwise I was very happy with the whole experience. I would definitely return.

May 2022 Update: Just stumbled upon the owner's response to this review, and am almost as stunned today as I was when I wrote the original review, for much of his response is, well, a complete fabrication. -At no time was I offered a gift card for a future purchase, or 'first dibs' on a future restocked bike, or offered a bike upgrade. Didn't happen. The only option I was EVER given was to pick another bike from the few options they offered, none of which worked for me. -I never made any threat whatsoever of writing a review, presumably as a way to extort one thing or another out of them, nor did I mention the topic of a review at all. Just didn't happen. I simply wrote the review after the whole thing concluded to be helpful to other people. Which is what reviews are supposed to be for, right? The review wasn't about getting back at them; it was about paying it forward. -I didn't change my mind on what bike I wanted; they took my money for a bike they never had, then tried to talk me into a totally different bike they did have. -I never "made a scene" at their shop, because I was never physically at the shop after the moment I purchased the bike I thought I was getting. I left their shop that day happy I about the bike I thought I had purchased. Everything after that happened over the phone. No "scene" ever happened because I wasn't ever physically there for it to happen. -And finally, to be 100% crystal clear, I have no issue with the staff at Ham Cycles whatsoever. They were nothing but courteous and professional with me. It was obvious from the moment the staff contacted me by phone, though, that they were very nervous/afraid of what would happen with their boss if they couldn't get me to agree to choose a totally different bike - they knew he would refuse to allow them to refund my money, they knew he would refuse to speak with me when I asked to speak with the owner, and they knew they would be yet again caught in the middle. Which is, well, exactly what happened. I could tell at the time that the situation the staff was in with me was a place they had been in many, many times before. So the problem wasn't the staff. The problem is the shop's owner who puts his own people in completely impossible, no-win situations.

After searching around Houston for the perfect place to purchase a bike, Ham Cycles finally found me. Tucker helped out this novice biker and to say that he was professional, informative, and eager to help is an understatement. Even during a pandemic, they managed to make buying a bike easy and safe! I purchased online, and the next day I received a call that it was already built and ready to pick up at their convenient location. Thank you guys for my first Retrospec bike, I'm so excited for the years of riding it. I will certainly be only going to Ham Cycles for my future bike needs.

Covid, Covid, COVID! I, like 99.9995% of you found myself quarantined this year and decided that I needed to find another way to do an "outing" while social distancing. I realized...I needed to finally get a bike. So, I looked on the Google machine and searched for locally owned bike shops with top reviews...and ladies & gents...I found this place. It was in the very beginning of Covid and no one knew what to do or say or how to work or shop with all these new restrictions. But I gotta hand it to these guys, they were as kind and patient and polite as anyone could hope for. I know nothing about buying a bike (yes, I DO know HOW to ride one, but that is about it) and the young guy was very frank with me when I explained what I was looking for my bike to do for me - where I planned on riding it, weight of lifting it up, easy ability to repair, etc. I had my eye on a Cruiser and it was a lot more expensive and the guy talked me out of it and saved me almost $150 in the end. THAT IS PRICELESS. I have had to return for a few minor things - mainly because I am a novice and just didn't know a few things and not because of anything was wrong with my purchase. I am SO glad that I spent my money with these guys and would totally encourage any of you to give them a try. #supportlocal #shopsmall

I bought a Retrospec Chatham bicycle from Houston HAM Cycle. Rarely used it and for around $350.00 new I wasn't impressed with its ease of a bike ride. Slow and lugging kinda ride but I owned it. While later decided I better get in better shape and a bike is certainly a good way to do that so I began a daily routine of riding the bike. The crank started knocking and it became so annoying that it had to be looked at so I thought the best place to take it was who I bought it from, maybe they would give me a break. The tech at the desk said if you are also interested in a bike rack well see what we can do about getting it running better without any charge and you just buy the rack. I said sounds great I wasn't looking for them to take it apart and start running the clock on labor. Their story changed when it was time to pick up the bike and then they said it would be nearly $60.00 in labor and the person demanding the labor charge wasn't the person who made the initial offer to wave labor if I buy the rack. It became labor plus cost of bike rack. I said that wasn't the deal I was made. Long story short, they are not people of their word and change up their charges when it's time to pick up the bike and weren't going to back down. I paid the labor and won't be back.

I was a repeat customer to Ham Cycles because they had been very helpful to me in the past. I dropped my bike off for a tuneup and brake cable repair. I was told it would be "no more than a week." A week later I got a call telling me that they had to special order the cable. I wasn't upset about that, as that wasn't Ham Cycles' fault. They said it would be a few days. Another full week went by and the cable still hadn't arrived. Two and a half weeks after I dropped the bike off, I received a call stating that the cable was in and would be installed that afternoon. So I said I'd be by the next morning to pick the bike up. I just got here to the store and the cable has not been installed and the worker who is here doesn't even know where the cable is. He cannot get in touch with the person who claimed he would install the cable yesterday. In addition to all that, we had set aside a new bike for purchase when we came in 2 and a half weeks ago. At that time we requested special handlebars to be ordered for that bike. The handlebars were never ordered and it looks like the bike we had asked the be put aside is back on their shelf for sale. This entire experience has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.

Bought a starter Haro Beasley here and after a week the left hand break stopped working. I took it back and they repaired it. I took it back again after the left hand brake went out again. I nearly fell off the bike. They fixed it again. A couple of weeks later the seat came loose out at Hermann park and I almost fell off into a ditch. I took it in for a third time in one and half months. I took the bike to another shop and they fixed it for around 50. Nice guys but I probably won't buy from them again.

Outstanding customer service, gave great advice, have been wonderful to work with. I'm extremely pleased with Ham Cycles. I purchased during the Covid pandemic, when everyone and their dog wanted a bicycle. These poor guys were slammed with business, but still took the time to work with me, teach me about the product and give their recommendations and advice. I've been back four times since, and every time they have been patient and helpful and kind. I've only had the opportunity to refer them twice in person, but for the Yelpers out there looking for a bike or cycle equipment, I encourage you to give Ham cycles a try. Absolutely amazing, amazing bike shop! I'm very tall and was looking for help in finding a bike that fit. I also had a very specific style I wanted and I didn't want to go indoors due to COVID. They delivered on ALL counts. Helped me find a great bike that fit me in a style I love and were happy to talk to me about bikes out in front of the shop and everyone had masks. They even suggested a good time to come when the shop wouldn't be crowded. When I had trouble figuring out how to get my bike home in my tiny car they even helped me out. I'm so thrilled with my bike and thrilled to have found such a quality local shop. You have my business from here on out!

I had been a loyal Fletcher Bike customer until the service just went to crap and I literally waited over a year for some parts. I would call back and remind them every few months. Never got a call back. I had come to Ham when I bought my bikes but they didn't have quite the style I wanted. I came back today for some service help and Johnathon helped me. What an amazing difference in service. I felt important and that my business mattered to them. I wasn't a burden. I would highly recommend Ham for all your biking needs. I don't even know how much it will be l but the old saying is you get what you pay for. I'm willing to pay for good service. Thanks Johnathan and thanks Ham cycles

Great bike shop. Being a 100% Novice rider, a friend recommended I try out Ham. After visiting and talking with the staff, I decided to purchase my first bike here. Amok Retrospect. I couldn't be happier that I did. I have all my servicing done here as well. Always reliable and eager to answer questions. There is a really sweet girl I like and Edward is awesome!

Overall good vibe! Jon, Alex, and Jeremy do amazing of o a job. I got spot on tire help, had a flat tire and left with a new tire!

June 1: the bikes are mine! May 29: according to Kent who is a shipping manager at Bikeflights, he was able to get in contact with FedEx's Houston terminal and confirm my bikes sitting in a lost and found! They did NOT have the shipping labels I bought and instead had multiple other labels (being reused boxes) that were marked out, such as with a sharpie. I admire conservation but definitely not carelessness in handing over bike packages without shipping labels. Plus I was reassured so repeatedly that they had the labels I provided. Looking forward to a 3-week delayed reunion! Curious to see whether those two bikes are even mine May 26: I lost two bikes after giving them to Ham Cycles for disassembly and packing. The people at this shop are friendly and make it seem like the process is hands off on your part after you give them your bikes. The truth is, you're better off following up often and attempting to ship them out on your own. There are too many handoffs that could go wrong. In my case, I decided to have them pack and ship my bike. I bought labels through Bikeflights which is a company they recommend for getting discounted bike shipping through Fedex. A few things could have happened; this list isn't exhaustive: 1. Ham Cycles never gave them to Fedex 2. The dedicated Fedex rep, who nobody at the shop was able to tell me who this is, never brought them to a shipping center 3. Fedex itself lost my package Edward at Ham Cycles said he was able to call Fedex which said they don't have my bikes and are investigating this matter. Once I called Fedex myself, the story started to make less sense. Fedex said the shipper never picked up or never scanned the bikes. The shop is busy enough serving new customers that problems from weeks back get delayed attention. What is dodgy to me is the shop's seeming lack of internal control over shipping. I was told only that my bikes "could have" shipped on May 4 or 7--so they're may not be logging the dates the bikes are going out. You may be better off making an appointment with Ham Cycles if they do such a thing, or any bike shop that does, and watching their employees disassemble and pack your bike. Once the packages are sealed and ready to ship, you should take them to Fedex (should you use Bikeflights) or UPS personally.

My neighborhood shop. Always reliable, friendly, hardworking, fast, and reasonably priced. From a lifetime of bike riding, I have various bikes, none very fancy, and they take good care of them all. I've been a patron since they opened. Always a pleasure, and they stand by their work too. Excellent bike shop!

The sales associate is charging $10 to "test ride" bikes. When laughing at the policy (bike barn will let you test drive for free, go there...) he literally closed the door in my face. Even if you think the customer is being rude you don't physically close the door in their face and call them condescending. 1/5 would not recommend. Go make the drive to Bike Barn for good service

First off let me start off by saying ham cycles has a really good inventory and they seem very knowledgeable. I went to ham cycles for the first time a few days ago to purchase a single speed bicycle ( retrospec mantra V2). They had a special going on where if you bought a new bicycle you got a free helmet, which is always a nice bonus. However the workers seemed distracted and didn't really offer any guidance or help in selecting a bicycle. I basically picked the one I wanted and asked to test ride it then said I'd buy it with no questions or further comments from the sales staff. Now this is fine since I went in knowing which bike I want but I could see this as off putting if I was still unsure. My main issue with the shop was they didn't look over the bike at all. Didn't check size, fill tires, check to make sure the wheels were true, nothing. Didn't ask if I needed any accessories with the bike at all, really didn't do anything aside from " well here's your new bike, have a nice life with it , there's the door". I really want to like ham cycles , I support the local bike scene and I don't regret from buying from a local shop. I do feel as if they could have done more to help or at the very least make sure the bike was immediately ride able. The person I went with also bought a bike from them months back and had the same experience and described it as " it was as if I was inconveniencing them by giving them my business". Luckily my bike was in good shape however it did immediately need air ( as I mentioned something they should have checked before). Probably wouldn't buy from them again anytime soon and would shop around to the other local area shops :-/.

HAM Cycles is the epitome of how small businesses should operate. I ordered some Pure Fix bikes for Christmas and had no earthly idea how to assemble them. A friend of mine who rides the MS150 recommended HAM Cycles and it was truly a blessing. Not only did HAM Cycles assemble two bikes for me, but they also kept them serviced and taught me how to properly maintain my bike as well. I ran into an issue with one of my bike's back tires and after replacing the tube several times (at no cost after the first time), they recommended I reach out to the manufacture and sure enough, I had a defective part. Certain employees are friendlier than others, but I've always been satisfied with the service. If you're in need of a good bike shop, HAM Cycles will definitely hold you down.

Great service. I had my kid's tire tube replaced before and went back this time to get help setting up a foldable bike I purchased from somewhere else. The staff member (I wished I could remember his name!) helped me put the chain back on, adjusted the brakes and gave it a nice tune up. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. The work he did was way above my capabilities and he was very reasonable with the fees. Love, love the customer service here.

The employee acted as if he didn't want to be there and/or didn't care to help. I came in at 6:35pm just needing a rear brake pad replaced and he said "do you absolutely need it or can you come back cause we close in 25min". I informed him I ride my bike to work every day and I need it. He shrugged and said okay. The job took 3min and then I was charged $27!! (See picture) Apparently $13 for the brake pad plus another $12 for "labor" then tax. The labor cost on my receipt says for "brake adjustment" but they didn't do anything to 'adjust' my brakes would have been nice for that price for them to at least adjust my front and back brake cables. Really don't think I'll ever come back here again.

Ham cycles is THE place to go inside the loop if you're looking for a really rad curated bike selection that is actually affordable. The guys that work there are hella knowledgeable and reasonable. They also have clever Houston and Montrose themed merch that you can't find anywhere else. I've also noticed they're like the only bike shop in town that's actually taking the coronavirus outbreak seriously and have been enforcing very common sense rules to limit the spread of the virus. It demonstrates to me that they genuinely *care* about the community and their employees, even if certain segments of the population couldn't care less who's health they risk. Ham is the best shop in town. Go there and support.

Tiny little bike shop in Montrose. Staff was super friendly and helpful. My hubby was looking for some commuter type bike shorts and thought since they have an extensive selection of fixed gears they might carry but unfortunately they did not. The guy working was helpful and gave suggestions of other places we could find them. The place is filled to the brim with bikes and a small selection of accessories for your dikes. We grabbed a new water bottle while we were there. They seem to do a pretty steady repair business in back.

The best place to go to for any bike needs. Super friendly staff. Anytime that I've had to come to the shop, I've always left happy. I would only take me and my wife's bike to this shop

SoI just go back from picking up my new bike. The company I purchased it from had it shipped and put together there. The girl who worked the front was very friendly but didn't really go above and beyond. She just said enjoy. I had to ask to have the seat fitted/lowered..she just said oh yeah ok. I bought a bike Bell and asked her if I could use a small screw driver to put it on. She came back with one and then said ohhh this kind of Bell is for a mountain bike. So ...Ok did you not see the bike you just rolled out for me? It's a cruiser? Being a novice bike rider I would want a shop to assist me in the future and purchase items from, but the service didn't do much in the way of enticing me to come back as a repeat customer sad to say.
