Hama Sushi

The best sushi in town! They have been open for 30years! Very authentic Japanese and Korean food. The fish is always fresh! Unlike some other restaurants they use old frozen fish that tastes like dry wood. I highly recommend their sushi combo deals !

I've been here three times (once before the pandemic, twice recently) and I'll definitely come here again for more great times. The food was great on both occasions, so I have no complaints whatsoever (though I wouldn't be considered a sushi snob by any means).

A great place for amazing sushi that’s worth the price. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is nice, cozy, and quiet. Because of that we go there very often like once a month. Would definitely recommend this sushi restaurant to others who live here.

Sushi was pretty good! Enjoyed the edamame and all the rolls we got. Only thing: the o-toro sashimi was still slightly frozen and that took away from the experience.

I love this place! Hands down Hama Sushi in Herndon is a gem for authentic Japanese cuisine. The Katsu Chicken is perfectly crispy and flavorful with a nice light cole slaw to compliment it while the Miso Soup and house salad are also both fresh and satisfying. Their California rolls are a standout, packed with flavor and orange caviar. Don’t miss the Gyoza dumplings—they're delicious and a great addition to your meal. I very much recommend this spot for anyone craving genuine Japanese food!

Hama Sushi is the best sushi restaurant that I've found in Herndon so far. I tested them by ordering an a la carte tamago (egg) nigiri and it came back hot and freshly made! Delicious! I ordered a miso soup, one of their specials and a yellowtail roll afterwards - all excellent. Highly recommended!

i live so close to this place and discovered it very recently - what a hidden gem. the staff makes you feel at home and at ease, it’s like going to your extended family for a meal. the food is delicious, fresh, and nutritious; and wonderfully priced. my fiance and our families came to get dinner tonight and i think the owner (?) waited on us? she was so kind and funny and cared about serving us. i am continually impressed and WILL be back. thank you hama sushi family!🤎🤎🤎🤎

Though we have ordered from this place multiple times for pick up and delivery, this is our first time dining in for a late dinner. Place is super clean, very calming, the staff is very attentive and excellent customer service. Food is very good. Ramen is on point, Japanese style chicken curry was delicious, siomai was also good and to top it off with fried ice cream and hot green tea was perfect. We will be back.

Came here after traveling and flying into Dulles. Plenty of seating. friendly waitress and fast service. was not too busy at least during our visit. Delightfully surprise at the quality and quantity give the area in VA. Mostly order rolls. Food: The spread came out all at once. Nice! has tamago (5.95), unagi roll (8.95), spider roll ($12.75). tiger roll (9.75), and miso soup (2.95) tamago, only 2 pieces. The rolls I had were good and nicely presented. No regrets on any of the selection. Felt just right in terms of fullness after a day of traveling. friend had added on salmon and sweet potato. Did not try their portion* come try!

**** 3 1/2 Stars **** ------------------------------------- First of all, thank you to Yelp Friend, Hannah H., who recently dined at Hama Sushi and now wanted to see my review :). That got us thinking how it's been years since we've eaten here. At one time, many, many moons ago, this was our go-to place for Japanese food. We went so often that the staff got to know us. It was where our daughter got introduced to sushi and like us, enjoyed having it, too. All was going very well, until...the long gone restaurant that shared a wall with them and written up more than once by the health department, caused Hama Sushi to have a bug problem. While we knew it wasn't their fault, the owners at the time didn't want to get the other restaurant in trouble. Sadly, for us, it was time to find another Japanese restaurant. Recently, the reviews have been great. The place got remodeled. This got us thinking, especially after seeing Hannah H.'s review, that it was time to give them another try. We were here on a Sunday around 6 p.m. and immediately greeted and seated. Looking around, it was clear that the place had a face lift. The layout was as we remembered it to be. The only noticeable difference was that the tatami room was now a spot for private gatherings. Overall, it still had that vibe of being a calm and relaxing place to have a meal. We decided that we both would have a "combination" dinner and ordered one called "The Shogun". This is what "The Shogun" was supposed to have in it: "Sashimi: Tuna, white fish, fresh salmon, octopus. Tempura: crispy shrimp and assorted veggie tempura, Chef's special bean sprout salad, California roll, fruit and miso soup". What came to the table: Sashimi: salmon, tuna and white fish. Tempura: crispy shrimp and assorted veggies which were ---sweet potato, potato, zucchini and eggplant. California roll, fruit which was half an orange, a piece of cooked salmon, some daikon and shredded cabbage and the miso soup. So...no Chef's special bean sprout and no octopus. The piece of salmon was terrible. It was a very small piece that was overcooked and filled with bones which rendered it mostly inedible. There was no explanation as to why there was no Chef's special bean sprout salad or octopus. In all fairness, we only noticed what was missing after we went home and took a good look at the menu. Except for the cooked salmon, all the other items were good. The sushi and sashimi was fresh. The tempura arrived hot and crispy. Miso soup was piping hot and full bodied when it came to flavor. The orange was a nice ending to the meal. On the plus side, service was otherwise very attentive without being obtrusive. I had a glass of plum wine which was good quality. My husband had a Kirin Ichiban. We do plan to go back and will stick with the sushi and sashimi. Doing so, seems to be much simpler and we know we will get good quality fish.

I'm a fan of Hama Sushi! I didn't know that they had an actual brick-and-mortar in Herndon, but I was able to stop by their sushi counter at a local hospital's food court. I was excited to find this place, as I love sushi and maki rolls - their menu included salads, specialty rolls, maki rolls, sushi combinations, as well as a chef's special. I ordered: +a Salmon Avocado Roll +a Spicy Tuna Roll Both these rolls were made-to-order; the salmon and the tuna were super fresh, the sushi rice was cooked perfectly, and, the sets come with a packet of soy sauce, a mound of wasabi, and pickled ginger. Such a filling meal, as the amount of fish was generous - I could usually scarf down 2-3 rolls, but I was struggling with just 1 set! Service was super friendly and welcoming, and very kind! Went with my family for a sushi dinner and was really disappointed. The food was not good at all and it was extremely overpriced. We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was empty. We should have taken that as a sign and left.

Love the food and service here. The staff are really nice and take great care of you. The restaurant itself is pretty quiet and feels hole in the wall. And the price is wallet friendly too for the quality of the food!

Worst Tonkatsu ramen I ever had... and it is pricey, too! You may be better off buying cup noodles from the Giant grocery store next door.

Great chef! He made us the spicy tuna sandwich, futomaki as prefect as though we were in Japan, and one of the best hamachi kamas ever. Nice decor and unbelievably fair price. Fresh fish and even fresher nori. What a change from some of the other sushi bars.

It was moving day and I was hungry and happened upon Hama Sushi! Let me tell you, from the second I walked in I felt welcome! Greeted promptly with a smile and led to a nice booth..settled in to order! We ordered some sushi and a few maki rolls after enjoying the beef dumplings and steamed shrimp shumai..all I can say is that everything we ordered was gone within 20 minutes! Not because the portions were small, which they aren't, not because we were hungry, because we were! Because every single dish was on point! Wonderfully decorated and every staff member we interacted with was so dang nice! We will so be back!

Amazing and delicious sushi! We used the googles based on our hotel location and we were not disappointed. Definitely has great sushi and great service!

One of the worst customer service. Owner was upset when my daughter called her over respectfully, she was very upset answering , we asked for tea and she was upset still...., snatched menus out of our hands, and we decided to leave with her angry attitude. While leaving she thought we didn't see her and we found her cursing at us around the corner, and when she saw us she immediately smiling customer face. This has become one of the worst customer service that we have ever had in the US. Our order was over $200 by the way.

Oh my goodness! I love this place. I wish I lived closer. Stopped for dinner on the way back from the airport. They are SO friendly and welcoming here. The food here was very good and more than substantial for our family of 3! Our lovely server (forgot to get her name because I was too busy captivated by their hospitality!) gave us complimentary miso soup and yummy strawberries at the end. Would be very fun to take the whole family here! They have a really cute back room for parties more than 6.

This is our favorite local sushi place! The staff is so kind and friendly, and the food is always delicious and beautifully plated. Our absolute must-have is the sweet potato roll! Perfect for a casual date night.

Overpriced for what you get. Much better quality and value for sushi near by like Sushi Ume or Ariake. A lunch special and a drink shouldn't cost over $20. I ordered tempura udon and the bowl size was underwhelming. The California roll was pathetically small. They seem to be cheap on portion size. Like I said better quality and better value elsewhere.

Me and my family of 5 would come here every once in a while and it was always a highlight of my week, I recommend for any family in Herndon, VA, hands down, if you want good sushi, pull up here

Went to this restaurant with my girlfriend and had a blast. They have great selections on the menu and the vibe of the restaurant is pleasant. Service was quick and efficient. Would definitely recommend going here for some sushi.

Recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. Watched the chef place every thing with care, skill, and enjoyment. I in turn savored every bit. Really loved the spicy scallop. Everything was fresh and tasty.

Great kalbi. Nicely charred with a rare center and juicy meat. A nice little sauteed veggie medley on the side, but I miss the banchan.

This is the best place to eat sushi or teriyaki salmon if you are in the Dulles or Herndon area. Hama Sushi is a family owned business that provides excellent service with a charming music selection. It's also a great place for large group lunches or corporate dinners. Additionally they have Tatami Room if you would like an authentic Japanese dining experience.

Every single time I come to NoVa, I eat here. A few times a year. Consistent. Fresh. Great menu and wonderful sushi creations, pleasing to your eyes and your palette. Highly reccommend!

I normally do not eat raw sushi only cooked but the spread I had was very much to my liking. I enjoy each and every bite of my food. You gotta try it. You will not be disappointed! I will be coming back again when I visit.

HERNDON, VA 05/02/19 LUNCH -Unfortunately, I was subjected to food poisoning that evening through the next morning. -The customer service was lacking and very slow. -The fish was not fresh. The sushi lunch buffet spot, Matsutake, closed down so my coworkers and I don't really know where to go to get our raw fish fix on. Send some suggestions my way, please!

My favorite spot for sushi the Texas roll and volcano roll are always delicious and it's one of the few places that has soy wraps since I'm not a big seaweed fan service was great I wish I took a pic before I ate lol top tier for sure tho

We always enjoy our visits to Hama Sushi over the years but this New Year's Eve we especially loved the sushi platters prepared by our friends at Hama Sushi. Our growing family gathering now is at 30 people so the logistics for a catered sushi were complex but Hama Sushi made certain to have the staff on hand and everything worked perfectly! Thanks again for the wonderful food and service, from our entire family.

My family and I have been coming to this sushi restaurant for 20 years. Each time we come we are absolutely pleased with the service, ambiance, and the food is absolutely delectable. I recommend coming to this restaurant, you will not be disappointed.

Excellent quality in a lovely environment. Short wait time for food and prepared exquisitely. Tables and restrooms are clean. It's clear that they put care and effort into maintaining a delightful dining experience. Wife and I visited at peak dinner hours on Valentine's Day; was served quickly and with grace. We've been to a few Sushi restaurants in the area for years and we love coming here for the authenticity. They've never waived in quality, even through the pandemic. We usually get takeout or delivery from here, but we get it regularly! We have friends with a array of diverse dietary and restrictions, and I'm so happy they have so many options. We order quite often and it never disappoints. Sushi to go isn't easy and they do it right!

I have been coming to Hama Sushi for a few years. They have gotten better and better. A couple years ago when I started coming here there was some inconsistency. However, in the last year they have improved and become very consistent as well as going above and beyond. Chefs are really good and you can tell they put lots of work into their food. I have always walked away from Hama with food I love. Today I got Kobe beef sushi( won't see it in the pic because I was really hungry & smelled really great!) -Thin piece of fatty/melt in your mouth beef with vinegar onions and a ponzu sauce Shrimp &Veggie tempura -Everything fried in a light crispy batter and NOT oily at all fried shumai -very crispy skin on the outside and perfectly cooked shrimp on the inside Salmon and avocado roll -fresh tasting salmon and fresh avocado It's really great place and one of the best for the rates in the area I never given such a high rating( because I believe in everyone can approve) But they truly do deserve it! Go try them today!

The food here is amazing, especially the Chirashi and the Mount Fuji bento box! The presentation of the food is beautiful. The service here is fast and attentive! The woman serving us was kind and helpful. The restaurant is also gorgeous!

I've been here twice, and each time proved to be an exceedingly positive experience. The staff were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable of their menu, and willing to accommodate our Gluten Free needs. The location is clean, inviting, and neither time was too crowded. We're planning to go back soon!

I'm a huge sushi snob and have had a very hard time finding good sushi near us after moving to Herndon. We gave Hama a shot on a whim a few months ago and have been hooked since. The fish has been consistently fresh. And the nabeyaki udon is authentic and a great deal, bc you get tempura, veg, and loads of noodles. The wait staff are very attentive and always seem to remember us. Hama has a welcoming and cozy atmosphere.

Delicious! Beautifully plated. Misso soup and the House and Seeweed Salads were fresh and generously portioned. The staff were welcoming, helpful and efficient. Just a lovely surprise on a beautiful afternoon when we weren't sure what we were hungry for!

Absolutley love this place! My partner and I have been coming here as well as ordering out for over a year. Every time we like to try something new from their specialties menu as well as some fun appetizers. The atmosphere is fun and light and the employees are great! This place is a gem. I've had several dishes here; the sushi, sashimi, apps and the hot stone bowl. Well, I visited with a friend and tried the udon curry soup and my life was changed. This soup is a thick curry base with udon, fish cakes, chicken, spinach and egg. I couldn't finish it and discovered it was even better after being in the fridge overnight... all the flavors soaked in and it was amazing. The employees are all very sweet and the service is prompt and friendly.

If you're looking for a tasty treat and wonderful experience, look no farther than Hama Sushi... The food here is wonderful and service exceptional. There are a variety of tempting appetizers... from edamame to yakitori. A fave is the beef gyoza... Properly delicate but also busting with flavor! The main attraction is there sushi, though... And while they have a plethora of exotic and interesting roll and hand -made choices... Most orderable a la carte... I tend towards traditional sushi. I've had their sushi and their sashimi and either choice is a superlative delight!

My son turned me on to them when he worked in Herndon. He brought home a soft shelled crab sushi for me as I love them. I immediately fell in love. I'd go visit my son at work just to go eat there!!! Still go and live close to Warrenton!

Been enjoying Hama Sushi for the last 25 years. The hubs loves sushi, chirashi and sashimi. Hama is his date night happy place. I go for the melt-in-your mouth miso Chilean sea bass appetizer and nebeyaki udon with tempura. Every meal is Zen and we like to chill out and enjoy the ambiance and catch up on the day. Sunny, the co-owner, is a gracious host that makes everyone feel good. She's a mind reader when it comes to remembering who you are, what you like and how to make you feel special. Looking forward to another 25 years of date nights at Hama!

We had 6 of us and it was great. The tuna salad, tamago, and yaki soba was great (from one person that spent extensive time in the region). For the rest of us we also enjoyed our sushi and would go back.

Very nice interior. We were greeted the second we walked in and we're taken to a very large and spacious booth. They had a single tv playing a football game. They had a separate room that had tables on the floor and looked closed off for a private party. Our sushi was delicious. HIGHLY recommend any of their spicy rolls! The salmon and tuna were our favorites. We weren't a fan of their crab and avocado roll (it just tasted like mush). Customer service was fantastic. We never had to wait for a drink refill and never had trash/empty plates on the table for longer than a few minutes. Depending on your taste, some of the rolls can get a bit pricey. Keep an eye on what you're getting, it adds up. Our bill for two (we ordered a lot, see pictures), came to $80 with tip included.

The food was okay, but my husband and I were surprised they added 20% gratuity to our bill without asking. It was only the two of us, and our bill was only $50 pre-tip. Seems presumptuous to add 20% tip without asking.... I mean, isn't it up to us to decide how much to tip? We would have left a tip, no doubt. But that's not really the point. I'm used to having a gratuity added automatically only for larger parties in more high end places, and to be informed of the added gratuity beforehand. Not used to seeing this in a strip mall restaurant for a party of 2. What if the service wasn't good ? Tried to question it but was told unapologetically, "yes we add tip for dine-in". I don't like this. Probably won't go back.

I had a wonderful sushi dinner here tonight. I hail from the west coast (Seattle) where we have excellent sushi at many restaurants. I was craving some sushi i and was staying at a nearby hotel so I thought I would give Hama a try. All I have to say is WOW! By far some of the best and freshest sushi/sashimi I've ever had! I also really enjoyed the soft shell crab appetizer - different than what I am used to but delicious! Also I thought the staff was very very nice and accommodating. I am about to start travel to this area for work on a semi-regular basis and Hama will definitely be a must-return for my future trips. What can I say - it's a total winner for me!

I wont go there again. the food - look good, but the taste was not good enough for the price. I am willing to pay and i also expect the quality. the service was good. i was there Sunday 6 pm, and I was the only customer for the entire time.

This is the Best Japanese Restaurant in Herndon, & probably Reston as well. I'm not aware of any Japanese Restaurants in Reston that are as good as Hama Sushi, although i try to stay away from Reston as much as humanly-possible. Reno-911 is probably about the county-police in Reston.

I'm not local to the area, but when I'm here and in need of an authentic sushi fix, Hama is my go-to place. The sushi chef is talented and engaging, so I always sit at the bar. If you're looking for the real deal, with toro, amaebi and fresh wasabi consistently on the menu, look no further. Pay attention to the specials board; on a recent visit they had baby octopus, and they occasionally have ankimo. Presentations are beautiful, with no plastic garnish in sight! For sushi lovers, Hama Sushi is the real deal.
