I stayed at Hamilton’s Tented Camp for three nights in July as a couple, and it was hands down one of the most incredible travel experiences we’ve ever had. If you’re looking for the ultimate authentic-but-luxurious South African safari experience, this is it.
From the moment we arrived, the staff made sure every detail was taken care of. Warm, attentive service managed by Thomas that went above and beyond without ever feeling forced. The tented suites are absolutely stunning—spotless, stylish, and incredibly comfortable. It’s all the adventure of being in the wild, without sacrificing a bit of luxury.
The camp offers two safari drives each day (morning and evening, about 3 to 3.5 hours each), and you’re right in the heart of Kruger National Park the moment you leave camp. No long drives from the park gates—it’s all happening right there. You genuinely feel like you have the park to yourself, and the early morning drives gave us the first chance to spot the Big 5 before the crowds even entered the park. Huge shout out to Hali the safari guide who is a true subject matter expert in tracking, all things bush and just fun guy to hang out with.
The food deserves a special mention. We came in with realistic expectations, but the chefs at Hamilton’s blew us away. This isn’t “camp gourmet” this is actual fine dining, three times a day, with carefully thought-out menus and multiple options at every meal. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
If you have the budget, staying here is miles ahead of the typical lodge experience, whether it’s outside the park or even one of the other lodges onsite. Hamilton’s delivers the kind of once-in-a-lifetime luxury safari that you dream about—and then actually exceeds those dreams.
