Check Inn
Booked a two-night stay through their website (which was cheaper than Booking.com, fwiw) for $199/night** for a quickie two-night stay.
The Good:
*Contact-free check-in; they email you the code to the room.
*Hassle-free code to enter the room, which means no worrying about whether you grabbed your keycard before you leave.
*You can text with the front desk instead of having to call or go talk to them.
*Internet speed wasn't great, but we were able to stream without issue, never had connection problems, and the signal was strong enough that I was even able to use it at Paula's (across the street) one morning while we ate breakfast.
*Fantastic location in the heart of downtown Solvang with everything one could want within 1/4-Mile walk at the most.
*Pillows are large and sturdy
*Highly recommend Room #1 (aka King + Queen View Room); you'll have some stairs to climb, but it's large, spacious, and no neighbors above, below or to the side of you. #PeaceandQuiet
*Free parking
*Great Solvang/Danish inspired décor inside the room and the exterior of the hotel itself.
*Shower took forever to get hot, but the water pressure was fantastic.
*AC/Heater seemed to work fine
*Complimentary bicycle rental (didn't partake)
*Mini-fridge in room
The Meh:
*Rooms are still carpeted, as opposed to hardwood/vinyl, which is fast becoming the norm even at the cheapest hotels.
*42" Vizio TV was fine, but in our room (Room #1), it was positioned oddly between the two beds.
*Bed was hard as a rock. Carissa and her son didn't seem to mind it, but I did. So take that fwiw. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
*Check-in time 4 p.m awful late, but we were able to check-in at 2 p.m. thanks to their handy texting feature.
*Lacks some amenities of most modern hotels such as an ice machine, gym, breakfast, etc.
The Ugly:
*Coffee is a complete joke. They have instant coffee packets w/ a hot water heater. Bring your own coffee if you're like me and need your coffee first thing in the morning.
TLDR: 4.5* but would be 5* if the best was more comfortable. However, overall, it is a great place to stay when visiting Solvang.
**These are offseason prices (November); I'm sure the price is much, much higher during the summer months.
