Wow! This isn't just a great shop if you live in the area, I'd be so bold to say this should be a low-key destination for folks visiting from out of town. Hammerpress, I believe, started as a print shop on Southwest Boulevard, and now has a bigger space in the West Bottoms (y'know, the part of town with the haunted houses, where the Comets used to play).
The shop is fantastic. Somehow I escaped without spending an entire mortgage payment. The've got writing utensils, markers, notebooks, paper, cards, and anything you could possibly want in your home office...candles, planters, golden tape dispensers. I got a small brass ruler and a palette little I was delighted to see notebooks from my own favorite neighborhood stationery store ("Shorthand" in Los Angeles), and I believe I've seen Hammerpress cards at Shorthand.
Check it out, not just for the stuff you can buy, but for the space and the neighborhood. A sturdy brick building with old wooden floors that was probably home to some riverboat warehouse or stockyard. Inside, they've got their presses and metal typesetting bits, and it has a little printery smell. Outside, is such a cool area. Don't expect a dense neighborhood, but more of an old-timey industrial area with gravel parking lots and hidden gems all around.
