"The maritime-themed hotel is walking distance from historic Thames Street, where the Italian hot spot Vieste serves up warming bowls of local mussels. Or ask the cheery staff at Hammetts if you can take a plate of steamy littlenecks from on-site restaurant Giusto out to the heated waterfront deck."

I will start with the great stuff! This hotel is in the most perfect location! Waterview and you can walk to everything! The rooms are small but well done! Comfy beds and a day bed which was a very nice touch and perfect for sitting by the window to see the view! Also the valet is not cheap but when they say they will have your car in 3 min they mean it. We used the service and each time was a breeze! Super important for a cold winter day! |The not so good. No room fridge. You need a place to at least keep cold waters and for the price each room should have one automatically. I also feel for a higher end hotel ( and seeing what others in Newport offer) there should be a special perk included. In room treat, champagne at check in, a wine hour......any extra touch. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I am including some photos.

Google
Entering the hotel, it gives an impression of a higher end property, but given the number of hotels in Newport, we found this to be overpriced for what you get outside of the well designed lobby and location. There are NO amenities but for the gym which is visible for all to see with glass walls to the hallway/the 3rd floor sitting area. There is a sitting area on the 2nd floor as well. Coffee is provided in the lobby in the morning. Rooms are odd, there is no seating other than the bed or day bed which is the only space to put luggage, belongings, etc. if you don’t want to use the floor. The closet is a basically a hanging rod and not tall enough for long coats or dresses. No fridges in room and no ice machines. We didn’t even see a hotel guide or anything as such. Any drawers were under the beds where you’ll find an iron the size of your palm with a folding iron mat, presumably to use on the floor or bed and the room safe. The sink vanity was small and the two mirrors are directly across from one another in small walkway. Difficult for two people to get ready at the same time. The shower was good size but water gets everywhere because of the swinging door design. Found the rooms cold, especially at night. Bed and pillows were OK but wasn’t impressed with the sheets, a bit rough and not hotel grade comfortable. You can see into the rooms across the courtyard so drawing the privacy curtain is a must. All of the staff were pleasant and accommodating.

Google
First, the place is really nice looking. The views are great of the water. The hotel is clean. However, the rooms are small, the beds are not that comfortable. The rooms do not come with iron or refrigerator. Again, hotel is very nice looking but for the price point it just seems to not live up to the hype. Another point: They charge for parking everyday. I think they should only charge once for your entire stay. That is reasonable.

Our staycation at Hammetts Hotel was nothing short of extraordinary. From the warm welcome by the valet staff to the personable front desk team, we were immediately immersed in the renowned Newport experience. Our room was stunning, offering the perfect blend of comfort and luxury. The hotel truly embodies the essence of Newport, Rhode Island, exceeding all expectations. We left with cherished memories and cannot wait to sing our praises to others about this remarkable gem!

Google
This place is . . . odd. First, it is VERY expensive, and has very few amenities, except for complimentary coffee in the lobby every morning. There is a TINY fitness center. The rooms are particularly strange - with nowhere to sit except a peculiar daybed. The mattress was too soft. There are about a dozen light switches so it's difficult to figure out what's what. The room was freezing after dark despite turning the heat up and up. The tiny iron was hidden in a drawer under the bed; never would have known except for my sister found hers. There is no closet, just a rack that can accommodate about 6 hangars - tough if you have winter coats plus clothing. There is no fridge, so no place to keep medicines, beverages, doggy bags from restaurants, etc. There is a complimentary water jug and a fill station on each floor but the water was lukewarm and with no fridge . . . well, you get it. I was there for a family wedding and it was nice to have everyone together, but I wouldn't go back.

Google
We have stayed here before in the autumn season. It was excellent but this visit was such poor service ! We paid nearly 50% more than the current rate that was on bookings.com as we booked two months ago from Australia. Woman was smoking in the hall at 10 pm at night ! Very odd !

Google
Had a great stay at Hammett's for our wedding. We had to move rooms due to low availability on suites, but the front desk was so accommodating in allowing us to leave our luggage until the new room was ready. Also cannot rave enough about them and housekeeping- I left my wedding bouquet in the room and was heartbroken when we didn't realize until hours later. I called the hotel and they had it safe in water waiting for me. The kindest people and I am so thankful to them!

Google
Excellent customer service & a beautiful property! Carlos at the front desk went above and beyond to welcome us on our anniversary getaway. Our room was spotless, spacious & stylish. The bed was very comfortable and the view was spectacular. Highly recommend this hotel.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
What a great hotel. The front desk staff were exceptional. The rooms are small, but we were very comfortable for a two night stay. It's close to everything/great location. There are no refrigerators in the rooms; there are water carafes and water dispensers on every floor. I rather liked this amenity...didn't have to keep buying bottled water. The bathrooms are tight, but everything is clean and really everything you need is there. The one con is the nightly valet charge, but when compared with the cost to park in other places around town, we got over it. It was nice to just kind of walk away from the car and forget about it for a couple days.

D P.

Yelp
God forbid you're the type that likes to come and go as you please. They have a MANDATORY valet service that has already made me late to an appointment in the two days I've been staying in this hotel. This hotel is a venture capitalist's idea of a fancy hotel. Everything is locked behind a key or a hefty price tag and the rooms are as bare bones as it gets. They don't even have refrigerators and microwaves in the room. If you're in town for a weekend and want to pretend your rich, stay here

Yelp
Hammetts Hotel: Great Location, But Falls Short on Comfort Hammetts Hotel is in the heart of Newport, offering a sleek, modern stay. While the rooms are small for the price, they're well-designed and functional. Free coffee and tea in the morning are a nice touch, but amenities are limited. There's an on-site gym and a restaurant next door. Valet parking comes at a daily charge, but service was quick and efficient. The biggest downside? Thin walls. We were woken past midnight by rowdy neighbors and had to call the front desk. While they addressed it, the lack of soundproofing made for a rough night. At checkout, the receptionist didn't ask about our stay--disappointing given the high price point. A great location, but for this cost, better service and comfort are expected.

Latoya G.

Yelp
The reasons that 5 stars weren't given: Having to pay $45 per night for valet. EXTREMELY poor soundproofing of walls- our first night was a complete disaster with noise keeping us up throughout the night- having to hear drunk and very rude guests yell and run up and down the hall Beds aren't as comfy as I'm used to Some staff just seemed to be on the obnoxious and judgy side--no warm and fuzzies at all. No amenities for the price point--a mini coffee/tea area from 6-12 pm does not count, neither does a really small workout room fit for someone's small home.. Rooms on the smaller side than I'd expected- gave me NYC vibes No restaurant or bar on site I know it seems as though there wasn't enough to offset the cons to give 4 stars, but because I'm fair, here they are: PERFECT location in the heart of Newport Very professional underground valet that keeps vehicle protected from the elements- also on night of check out, as long as you're out by 12 pm, you aren't charged again, only a $10 charge from 12 pm until 4 pm. Very clean and well appointed rooms and common areas Unbelievable view of the harbor Black out blinds were very nice touch God willing, we've found our annual vacation spot, and I'd like to try other options... but overall, I would stay again.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Always a pleasure staying here! valet/checking in is always so simple, room is always bright and clean, and it's located literally steps from stores and restaurants! accessible with elevators and accessible rooms available! i also love how each month the hammetts shares things to do in newport, so you're always informed one events going on

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at hammetts hotel. This was mine and my boyfriends first time in Newport and this was a great introduction to the area. The hotel is gorgeously decorated and comfortable. The room was the perfect size for us and came with extra blankets and pillows and a safe. There was also a glass water bottle and glass cups that could be filled with water from their filtered water bottle stations. There was a small gym on the 3rd floor that had all of the essentials including free weights, a bench, treadmill, elliptical, bike and a weight machine with a bunch of rope/bar attachments. In front of the gym was a small seating area with a bunch of windows looking onto the water. The curtains in the bedroom were also SUPER blackout which was nice. The thermostat and TV were also very easy to use, as was the lighting situation. There is coffee and tea in the morning until 12, and we were able to get hot water and a tea bag at night to drink in the lobby upon request. I do wish that there was a vending machine or snack bar as the rooms didn't have any. Also, no fridge in the room made it hard to take back any left overs so we were forced to stuff our faces since we couldn't bring any food back . There is also a $30 charge for parking each night you stay, but you can come and go as much as you wish. I really enjoyed my stay here and if I were to every return, I would book here again! The lobby was gorgeous with plenty of tables to do work, and there were spacious private rooms towards the back to relax in. It's in a great location and the concierge were very kind and helpful.

Yelp
We stayed here from NH for our 25 year anniversary. This hotel location is within walking distance of just about everything. Room was clean and comfortable, staff was excellent and I would highly recommend staying here if you don't want to fight traffic. The hotel offers secure valet parking under the building which is super convenient especially when it rains (which it was when we checked out.) There are indoor and outdoor lounging areas on the property that were a nice touch ,as well as a watch shop near the main entrance. My Wife and I had an amazing time in Rhode Island ( Mid May 2024) , and Hammetts convenient location was great.

Corkie B.

Yelp
This hotel is stunning, has really interesting design and decor. Our room overlooked the courtyard which was nice you could see the water a bit as well. The location is perfect to walk everywhere in downtown Newport. I also like the environmentally friendliness. Filtered water available in the hallway. Instead of plastic minis of shampoo they have large bottles mounted to the shower. The room we stayed in with a queen on the second floor was much smaller than a standard hotel room. My husband and I didn't mind but it's worth noting. Would definitely stay there again

Yelp
This hotel is for people who don't care about cost, but also don't care about convenience / having nice things. Think of a backpacker with a large trust fund. The hotel is expensive, $1k or so a night, but you get the amenities and service of a cheap motel. Given the cost you think you are getting Four Seasons, you are really getting the Holiday Inn. The rooms themselves are hilariously small (minimalist would be the euphemism, what it really means is cramped). The staff seems overwhelmed, likely because there are a lot of complaints. You need to call in if you want your room cleaned. The food they offer are kind bars and bottled coffee, which they charge for, and free (praise the lord, $1k a night gets you some benefit!) coffee in hilariously small cups. It's like they wanted to offer free cups of coffee but were too cheap to do so and instead offer free half cups of coffee. No room service. 80 year old guest of wedding didn't get help bringing bags up. Valet is $45 a night and the staff is rude. Truly a uniquely bad experience. The only positive of the hotel is that the common areas are nice, probably to compensate for everything else.

Mark Z.

Yelp
Positives, Friendly staff from the front desk to house keeping and a extremely clean facility. Negatives, SMALL SMALL SMALL room and smaller bathroom. I was very dissapointed with the room size considering how much it was a night. The insulation/construction of the room is horrendous, you hear every footstep of the room above you. The amount of outside noise was awful, you hear car doors shutting garbage trucks backing up at 7am. I was extremely disappointed with our stay, simply just not worth the amount of money we spent.

Hobo J.

Yelp
This is an overpriced hotel. The room was small. The rate doubled the second night but the room remained the same small room with beds that were not comfortable. Stay somewhere you can earn points and use at a hotel that is truly worth the $700 plus/night stay. I have paid more for hotels but I have never received so little for the amount of $$$$ I paid. The place is not full unless I guess you have a bunch of RI residents? They do not pay same rate. The joke is on you if you stay here and pay the out of state out of town rate that they gouge you with because you dare to stay at this hotel. Location is all you get for what you pay because the amenities are sorely lacking.

Ashlee M.

Yelp
Gorgeous Hotel. Brand new hotel so as you can expect everything is brand new/rooms are brand new- the lobby is gorgeous, the design is very nautical & it is clean & very immaculate. However there aren't many "amenities" or luxuries. They said they had no restaurant- because it's been closed due to Covid. They have no pool or spa. No breakfast- but they do offer complimentary coffee until 10am! My only/major complaint would be the room sizes are extremely small, the bathroom does have a sliding door where the toilet and shower are- so there is a privacy barrier but the room that houses the toilet and glass shower are very small. The size of the shower is decent though so that's a plus. Everything is BRAND new. The ty was at least 65" (I think) so that was nice. However no microwave no refrigerator to keep drinks/snacks in. Parking was steep at $25 a night for hotel guests, but extremely convenient and would me a major plus during the summer and busy season. Although the view wasn't an "ocean view" room we still had a gorgeous view of the courtyard & we could see the ocean slightly. Huge large bay row windows with a seat that transforms into a day bed! It was a very picture perfect/clean room with a very comfortable bed! They did make the best out of the small space with tons of storage areas! Under the regular bed they had 2 draws. Under the day bed they had 2 draws and a little cubby hole which could fit more stuff. They had a small safe in the drawer under the bed with a tiny safe and the worlds tiniest Iron and gold out ironing board. Thankfully they had a small closet: as a lot of my clothes require hangers. Overall it was a very gorgeous hotel- and the rate at $74 for RI residents during winter is a great deal- but including parking it's basically $100- which is still NOTHING! However for 3 people- I felt cramped. I stayed here with my 5 year old there was nothing really for kids or geared toward kids but he really liked the view!

Yelp
The black-out blinds are the best EVER. I am a night owl and need my sleep. The blinds make it pitch black so no light sneaks in. The AC worked fine so we were cool the whole time. The night staff are outrageously kind, polite and friendly. Tracie and Carlos go way beyond to help with any needs. The location can't be beat. You are right in the center of it all. You CAN request a mini-fridge which I only found out about as we were leaving. Next time will ask in advance. Only negative aspects I could find were (1) parking costs $45 per day (2) the sound of slamming doors DID wake us repeatedly in the morning. When guests leave their rooms they are not mindful to close the door manually to keep it quiet (not everyone wakes at 7am!). So the doors close automatically and they are SUPER LOUD!. The Hotel should put padding or an air press to ensure a quiet closure. But no, they are extremely loud and irritating. That is the huge issue for me. Otherwise it was paradise. The hotel has no bar or restaurant or mini-fridge so make sure you plan one eating out for each and every meal. The Franklin Spa up the street is great for Breakfast to start your day. This will be my go-to hotel in Newport. Just wish the doors weren't so loud.

A F.

Yelp
Great price for a new, Brooklyn style hotel. The black-out shades were amazing. Location is incredible and staff were super friendly and professional. The bathroom is small - yet works. Rooms are well appointed. Highly recommend. Great deal for the price.

Suzanne C.

Yelp
Booked a stay here because we love Newport! However all we got for a sleek looking hotel was a completely shit experience. Juveniles working the desk who were lovely at checkin but incapable of dealing with actual room issues. Our room was incredibly hot but the thermostat couldn't be adjusted without a code ..and the engineer was unavailable'. We were told to wait until 9 am the next day...which is only 1-2hours prior to check out.... Yes, please let me pay $300 for far less than 24 hours for a place I can't sleep in comfortably...seems fair in the world today. Not. Fuck this place. Lots more f better and cleaner places to stay in Newport for sure. Don't waste your money.

Sarah M.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Hammetts Hotel this past weekend for a wedding and we couldn't be more pleased with our stay. First, parking was a breeze. The valet parked our car immediately upon arrival and brought our luggage upstairs. Yes, it's $45 per day, but so what? There is no free overnight parking anywhere in downtown Newport. Second, the hotel is walking distance to anything and everything, which is extremely convenient. Third, there are a million bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. RIGHT outside of the hotel. Fourth, the room is extremely clean (definitely the cleanest hotel room I've ever stayed in) and comfortable. Yes, it's a small room, but it has everything you could possibly need, and like I said, it's in the best possible location in downtown Newport. Fifth, it's quaint and peaceful. Even though our room was over a bar/restaurant/boardwalk and was overlooking the water... we couldn't hear anything. Overall, the Hammetts is definitely worth the money if you like to indulge while you travel. If you're cheap, prefer a large outdated room, and like driving (and paying for daily parking) everywhere you go so that you can park at a hotel for free overnight... then maybe go find an old hotel on the outskirts of Newport.

Rob L.

Yelp
Great location. Lots of stuff within walking distance. Nice clean modern rooms. Thought from the website we were going to have a great view of the water. Paid extra for that. We do.....if you look far enough over a parking lot. the parking lot. Very cool place in general. Not sure it was worth what we paid. $45 per night for valet which is the only option. Seems like a gouge. But in general I would recommend.

Stacia K.

Yelp
My review is based on what you get for your money, and ultimately I think the cost is more than the benefit. The positives: Good location, bed is comfortable, very clean (all of these are very high value to me), and we left AirPods in the room and were able to get them back! The cons: the rooms are tiny, the water pressure is not good, and although they charge the same rates as the fancy hotels, they don't have the same service or amenities- there's no gym or pool, no refrigerator in the room (and no water provided; there are fountains in the common areas but the water from them isn't cold), and there's no food/restaurant/room service/breakfast. Last but not least, the parking is an additional $45 per night!

Brian M.

Yelp
This was a 5 star stay in my opinion. The location is great. Walk to everything. They have parking and the valet was efficient and friendly. Our room was very clean (the place is fairly new). I loved the modern, but not over the top, decor. Lots of nooks to sit and read, the lobby is really cool. And everyone was helpful and available. I'll stay here again!

Casey C.

Yelp
Way overpriced and honestly not worth it in my option. The room was clean, the staff was nice, but I am confident there are better stays in the area.

Michigan H.

Yelp
You won't find a hotel more centrally located than Hammetts. Only a year old, it fits in perfectly in the buzzing downtown and, if you didn't know any better, you'd think it has been there a lot longer. We picked Hammetts because it was one of the few Newport hotels to offer a suite and, for what you'll pay for it, it's a pretty spartan one. We'd heard the regular rooms were fairly tight, and the suite is basically two of them. While we didn't hurt for space, the rooms don't come with basic amenities like a mini fridge or even an ice bucket. The views were nice, and the blackout blinds are necessary to keep out the early morning light. The staff was friendly and accommodating. On site parking was $45 a night, a bit pricey but also the going rate in Newport. There are some nice amenities throughout the hotel. The lobby offered a pop up bar in the afternoons that also set up outside on the wharf when the weather was good. Free coffee in the lobby during the morning was a nice touch and the small gym on the third floor has what you'll need for a vacation workout. Hammetts is a good hotel in a great city. We'd consider returning when we come back again.

Robert G.

Yelp
A clean, modern looking hotel with a perfect location. We loved our room and were really satisfied with the location of the hotel. We were in walking distance from plenty of shops, stores, and restaurants in downtown Newport. We read some other reviews about the water pressure being weak and it was, but that wasnt a big issue for us. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfy, and the location was ideal. We loved our stay and would definitely choose Hammetts again.

Jeanne S.

Yelp
My daughter and her boyfriend stayed at Hammetts for their 6th anniversary. I called to see if they could do anything special for this occasion and was told they would see what they could do. Upon check in, my daughter called me thrilled they were upgraded to a beautiful harbor view room. She was so excited to stay here because of the great reviews and this just made the trip for her. She said the hotel was spotless, beautiful, and the location couldn't be beat. Kudos Hammetts for satisfying even the pickiest guest.

Mikey M.

Yelp
The hotel looked great, the location was excellent, and the views were amazing. The disappointing part was the amenities for the price point. For a $300 a night hotel, $45 for guests to park their car seems unreasonable. Additionally, "complimentary coffee and tea" seems lackluster for an expensive luxury hotel. Even pastries, granola bars, or something for those who don't have the time to get breakfast nearby is appreciated. Front desk staff was alright, although they were pretty uninterested in helping beyond handing us our room keys.

Grace W.

Yelp
The pro: Great location walk to all. A nice and clean unique boutique hotel by the marina. Very friendly staffs and a spacious lobby with high ceilings and large windows facing American's Cup Ave. There's a large deck/garden (outdoor open space) in the center of the hotel with a full bar restaurant. It's a great spot to sip your drink and watch the sunset. My husband and I booked the Marina King room and we got a room with window directly facing the water. We can watch the sunset in our room and I also love waking up to see the marina water view without getting out of bed! The con: The water pressure in the shower was REALLY low for a new hotel (opened in 2019). It wasn't just our room, we came to Newport with another couple and they said the same of their shower as well. So minus one star for that. Overall, if you don't mind the shower, it is a comfortable and convenient hotel to stay at when visit Newport.

John D.

Yelp
I really wished I read the reviews before making a reservation at Hammetts. My wife and I were there to attend a wedding and that's where everyone was staying. I would have argued to stay somewhere else. Pros: nice place, great location, modern, great design, very clean, eco-friendly, kind, friendly, and attentive staff. Cons: Rooms are super small - not small - super small. Super small as in no chair, no desk, no room to spread-out toiletries. No fridge, no safe, no in-room coffee/tea. It's so small that you don't want to spend time there other than to sleep because it's so small. More Cons: no food or drink service - really? You take a credit card and hold $50 on check-out for incidental charges. What incidental charges? Would that be in case someone takes a bath towel or a drinking jar? Really? Take your time and money elsewhere - whether you're attending a wedding or not.

Sherri G.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night and it was pleasant enough. There were several small factors bringing my review down a notch. The room is small but well appointed so I am not complaining there-it was fine for a one night stay. That being said, I would have been disappointed if it was a longer vacation. Here were the snafus: the temperature in the room became uncomfortably warm during the night so at 3 AM so we attempted to adjust the thermostat with great difficulty-we then attempted to call the front desk and when we did get a dial tone and dialed, the phone just rang and nobody picked up. But the worst part was that the light on the thermostat took forever to go off-also we were able to hear the guests in the room above us moving around. The plug on the hair dryer did not stay in the outlet which was another annoyance. I didn't need a mini bar but a mini fridge in the room would have been nice. Also I was fine with no coffee maker in the room ( fresh coffee is in lobby) Perks include great location and upscale restaurant. ( which I will post review separately)

Gary D.

Yelp
Had a great stay. Usually somewhat expensive but got a great rate for an off season stay. A colleagues and I spent two days planning for our business. We were able to use the common areas in the hotel as it wasn't too crowded. Beautiful space. Front desk and valet staff were very friendly and efficient. Loves the design of the room. Didn't try the gym but it looked nice. Close walk to restaurants and commercial areas. Hotel restaurant was great. Definitely recommend.

Bob A.

Yelp
Overall beautiful hotel that perfectly combines a modern boutique feel of clearly being in Newport, Rhode Island! Stayed for one night, got upgraded to a Marina View room - 2nd floor. Room had a nice view of the hotel's public deck and restaurant as well as the marina. A partial view of Newport Harbor. From the moment I walked into the hotel lobby I began to get excited, and when I got to my room and opened the door for the first time I was genuinely happy! Room was immaculately clean and felt brand new! My room has this amazingly cool and fun window/day bed with comfy cushions/pillows that instantly allowed me to de-compress. A large, incredibly clear tv mounted on the wall across from the bed. Easy to use temperature control panel on wall. Heat / cooling system was great! Excellent WIFI. Common space on 2nd floor, functional with views of marina and city. Outdoor lounge area has heating lamps in ceiling for a quality night time hang! Nice view of marina and harbor. Staff was VERY FRIENDLY, HELPFUL and PROFESSIONAL! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I will be back.

Lauren M.

Yelp
A new, chic hotel very centrally located in Newport. The views onto the wharf are great, and special touches like the afternoon bar on the deck bring this up to 4 stars. The negatives were the inability to control your room's temperature (somewhat) or fan setting. You can't open the windows, either, so it's hard to get any fresh air. Also, you can feel every spring coil in the pull out couch (request 2 additional comforters to layer in order to make the pull out couch a passable sleeping option). But the morning coffee in the lobby is nice, the staff was friendly, and overall I'd recommend this hotel to folks who want to be in the middle of the action in Newport.

Peter L.

Yelp
Thank goodness for Instagram! Otherwise I wouldn't have known about the Rhode Island residents discount for Hammett's Hotel. My wife and I just enjoyed a staycation here and we already booked another visit this Fall. The hotel is beautiful, perfectly located and uniquely charming, and has so much character it feels like it's been here forever. And Guisto is an experience not to be missed. Couldn't ask for a nicer stay in Newport!

Gerry B.

Yelp
Great Hotel. In the heart of Newport. Fantastic service and attention to detail. The room was spectacular with a view of Newport Harbor. This will be a destination hotel in the summer- great views and a huge patio overlooking the harbor.

Tim S.

Yelp
Terrible experience.  I was so upset and disappointed by the way I was treated on so many different levels of interaction and basic requests. Literally useless and non-responsive on several occasions, rude staff and far more issues. I would avoid this spot like the plague and it was $750+ a night.

Bob S.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped inside this hotel in consideration for future stays, since we frequent Newport often, and while walking on our own in the lobby area, a front desk person came up and asked if we were staying at the hotel. We said we were not, and he said, "you guys gotta get out of here, this is for guests only". That's all it took for me, I can assure you, we will never be guests at this hotel.

Zoe T.

Yelp
This hotel has modern decor and a prime location- right on the water and walking distance to all shops and restaurants downtown. The staff is extremely friendly, especially Freddie (assist. Gen. Mgr) Great large deck with covered and uncovered seating, perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset Would highly recommend !

Yelp
Let's see where to begin. There is no doubt they do a great job packaging the hotel in a pretty bow but buyer beware. Bad construction lends you to hearing everything that happens below above or next to you. I especially like loud feet and what appears to be moving furniture at 0400. The next best thing is screaming children let loose in hallways at 0500. Too bad you can't just lean over and call downstairs because there are no phones here, no coffee maker , nada. You pay 600$ a night for essentially a Tru Hilton . Don't get me wrong I Love a good Tru Hilton but this place is disguising as a luxury hotel when it's absolutely not. For people who say "but it's on the wharf". The wharf is a mere 5-10 minute walk from other places to stay. Save your money- you don't need an "ocean view" that overlooked their valet parking lot next time . What a horrible, expensive decision this was!

Yelp
This hotel saved our 25th Anniversary. Ben and the rest of the front desk staff are extremely versed in hospitality. This hotel may be the nicest place to stay in the downtown area. The cleanliness and comfort is second to none. All COVID procedures are being followed without infringing on guest experience. We will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Fairly new hotel, smack dab in the middle of all the Newport action. The lobby was very well decorated and had a comfortable feeling. Outside area was a great place to hang out in the sun, read a book or have a couple drinks. It overlooked the Marina with great views. Another part of the outside lounge area had heaters built into the ceiling for those chilly nights. The room was comfortable with modern features and looks to be built for energy efficiency. Contrary to what another reviewer posted...it DOES have a safe, drawers for storing some clothes and other items, iron, and a blow dryer. It was a very small room and really tight, but the location of the building made up for it and guessing that's what the owner was thinking when he built it. My big problem was parking...$45 a night...little steep don't ya think? We would definitely have the Hammetts on our list of hotels to look into when or if coming back to stay in Newport

Yelp
This is a great hotel in many ways -- great lobby and outdoor space, friendly staff, excellent location. Tiny room with some interesting design touches. But I do have a few bones to pick. This is a pricey place, so I was surprised by what was missing from the room: a robe, a pen, and a pad would have been helpful. But their absence might be COVID related. A chair would have made the room far more comfortable but there is no space for one. The morning coffee service is mediocre. Coffee Mate, guys? You can do better than that. How about one of those self-service espresso machines that I have seen in other expensive hotels?

Yelp
Tiny rooms, no drawers, $45/night parking (which they don't tell you about). After spending 8 nights and over $4,700 to over look a parking lot, I asked for a measly 1 hour late check out. They graciously gave me :30 minutes. Never again.

Yelp
Tiny rooms, windows do not open to the nice fresh air-shame! No desk or chair, no closet- just a hook on wall and 4-hangers, no dresser- 2 drawers under the bed, sink in the entryway, small like a closet bathroom, commode clearance to shower door barely, poor shower water pressure, no room service, no food service or pantry on property, no sundry shop, $45 to valet car. Nice views out the sealed windows though.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Hammetts Hotel. It is in the perfect location in Newport and is a really beautiful hotel. Super clean with Covid, and we used the RI resident rate which was awesome! Our one complaint was that from our room (overlooking the courtyard) we could see into the rooms across the way, and they could definitely see directly into ours. Not a big deal if you remember to pull the blinds down, but important to mention. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to Hammetts!

Yelp
We took advantage of the RI discount. Beautifully designed and incredible location. All the fittings, blankets, soaps etc. are new and high end. Front desk are friendly and go out of their way. It's ALL being done top notch. The only thing you NEED to be aware of is space. We got the King, w/daybed. A room that 3 people could stay in. It's 210sq. Feet and every inch is used wisely and with purpose. But it's not a room you'd want to eat in. If 3 people planned to stay in that room and had luggage it would be nearly impossible. That said, for a weekend getaway for a couple with a bag or 2... perfect. If your looking for a room to congregate before dinner, it's not the one.

Yelp
Where do I begin? We pulled into the parking garage and was told parking was $45 per night. We came into the hotel and we were told your room will not be serviced unless you "need someone" to service it. We walked into our room and needless to say we were shocked by the size of the room. We paid with taxes and fees, $1596 for two nights. The room is so tiny, the sink for the bathroom is in the "hall". The water pressure was non existent and there was a "rack" to hang your clothes. We overlooked the outside deck area and there are hotel rooms directly across which you could see people actually brushing their teeth and putting make up on. There is absolutely no privacy unless you sit in the dark with your shade closed. There is also no food or drink in this hotel. If you want water you have to carry a jar, supplied by the hotel, to a common area to get it. Needless to say this hotel is not worth the money. There are so many other hotels with amenities we've stayed in, in Newport, that we would never, ever come back. We also booked an August stay at Hammetts that will be canceled as soon as we return home.

Yelp
No amenities! The decor and location are great, but expect little frills. No robes, shower caps, no hand soap, no snacks in the morning, no vending; and no room service. The staff was VERY friendly, but it seemed like their hands were tied. The air conditioning was nice and the bed comfortable. If you have an option, stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Beautiful beautiful hotel. Updated modern decor and awesome feel when you walk in! I've already stayed there twice and would look forward to staying there again, but not sure if I would pay full price in the summer months with the size of the rooms and offered amenities. With that being said they did utilize the small space in an efficient way. Both times I stayed I utilized a RI resident discount (summer and winter). Hopefully they keep that around! Can't beat the location and in walking distance from everything you would need on Thames street. I had a discrepancy with one of the parking charges and they fixed it right away. Great service and friendly staff. Hope to be back!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided we needed a getaway without getting to far away.We found this new hotel in Newport Rhode Island and decided to check it out. They had a great deal with 65% off if you were a Rhode Island resident so we decided to get a bigger room.We never got any confirmation about the reservation other then the charge on our credit card. I called the night before just to verify that we still had the reservation and that everything was set. We arrived and were told that they only valeted and it was 25.00 a night but the valet was very nice and helpful. We checked in and got to our room which was tiny with no fridge, microwave or even an ironing board or suitcase holder. There was really no where to sit other then the bed or the weird chaise lounge up against the window.(We even contemplated dragging a chair in from the lounge)We finally started to relax and the fire alarm goes off at about 10pm..my boyfriend calls to the front office and they tell us to go downstairs so we do where we meet with the Newport Fire Department as well as many guests. After a bit we go back to our room..order some food and relax. We had great views and the staff was amazing but the room was just to small and crowded. We had to ask for glasses and ice..the bathroom door didn't even close right. We got a great discount on the hotel but there is no way we would pay full price for that room at all! They are just trying to hard at that hotel!'
