The 40 Best Resorts in the Caribbean: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Situated on Antigua’s rugged Atlantic coast, the resort’s rocky, unpaved entrance belies the clean, contemporary resort behind the gates. Built on four compact beachfront acres, the tucked-away property also packs a few luxe surprises, like the tri-level pool deck and the culinary program led by a Michelin-trained chef. The lobby’s architecture borrows from the Caribbean’s traditional shotgun-style homes, which depend on open doors and windows to circulate cooler air. Hammock Cove is adjacent to Devil’s Bridge National Park, which means you’re guaranteed a quiet stay, but also that there’s little else in walking distance. The all-inclusive property is designed so that you don’t need to leave, but if you do decide to eat off-property, Antigua’s best restaurants are a 25-minute drive away. This is a quiet, boutique alternative to the island’s larger (and louder) resorts. Though it could be too quiet for some, Hammock Cove packages together everything you need to unwind on a sunny, romantic getaway—right at your fingertips." - CNT Editors

We have always regarded Elite Island Resorts as among the very best in the Caribbean. During our second stay at Galley Bay, we obtained a Day Pass and a personal tour of their flagship resort, Hammock Cove, as we had already booked a holiday there for October 2025. What was already excellent became exceptional—the location was breathtaking, and every member of staff we met was among the warmest and most professional in Antigua.||As with all Elite resorts, from management to housekeeping, activities, pool staff, bar, and restaurant teams, the service appeared consistently outstanding. The cuisine we experienced at lunch was superb, and the overall resort atmosphere truly first-class.||Having been loyal guests for more than 17 years, with over 20 visits across their Caribbean properties and more than £250,000 spent, we were shocked to receive a personal email from the CEO when attempting to book a return visit to Galley Bay in 2026. Not only was our booking declined, but he also authorised the cancellation of our October 2025 reservation at Hammock Cove (Antigua). The only notification we initially received was a short message from our booking agent advising that our reservation had been cancelled.||Shortly afterwards, we received a follow-up email from the COO. While stressing that the resorts generally provide guests with a wonderful all-inclusive island experience, he went on to say: “there is no one size fits all when it comes to holiday travel, and no single resort or resort group is perfect for everyone. To that end, we simply feel that our resorts are not the best fit for your future holidays. We wish you the very best with your future travels, even though those travels will NOT include our resorts.”||This was followed by instructions to the Director of Sales to cancel our Hammock Cove reservation and issue a full refund. No explanation was provided—simply the door closed on us.||After so many years of loyalty, this response left us deeply disappointed and bewildered. In my personal opinion, it appears possible that Elite Island Resorts may be engaging in some form of customer profiling, potentially using social media, to determine which guests fit their preferred profile. If you don’t, you may suddenly find yourself uninvited to return.||That said, I cannot fault the quality of the resorts themselves: they remain truly first-class.

Wow what an experience! My husband and I came here for our honeymoon in July and we were hoping for a romantic, quiet, luxurious all inclusive experience - Hammock Cove provided all of this and so much more. Our expectations were exceeded. The food was nothing like what you would get at an all inclusive. Every meal we had was gourmet and some of our favorite food we have ever had at any restaurant or all inclusive. Chef Marco and the team put so much care into the work they're doing and would take time every day to come out and talk to you about the meals. The drink experience with Joel, Shawna, Gabriel, Erik, and all of the bartenders, was phenomenal. Joel makes the best espresso martinis you'll ever have, and also taught us how to make his favorite rum old fashion drink so we can make it in the US. Every drink you get will be delicious and tailored yo you if you'd like. Rooms are spacious and clean and the maids came every day. It was so nice to come into the room with fresh towels and a bed made every day. Also, it was by far the quietest most romantic place I've ever been. Going down to the beach in the morning there is no fighting for a chair and it is just quiet and lovely, We are already planning when we will come back.

Thanks |The Ambassadors were polite quick and helpful |The breakfast staff in particular Mark & Tasscia were 100% stand out. Please give them a raise before some other resort steals them. |The beach guys were also excellent |My only request- get some nibbles like crisps, nuts etc for the in room bar and sort out the road outside. |We look forward to returning as you made it a truly unforgettable honeymoon- Thank you||We also went horse riding & swimming with beautiful and well cared for horses |Separate review but highly recommend SpringHill Antiqua Equestrian Centre - free transport when on honeymoon

First and foremost, Hammock Cove exceeded expectations. The staff, the food, the resort itself – all excellent. The villas are huge for two people, they are beautiful and the areas between them are well manicured and make you feel as though you're in a fantasy island. We LOVED getting to know our fellow guests at each bar.||The food and drink are the standouts. Each meal was exceptional and paired with a well-thought out cocktail. (Joel is the greatest mixologist.) Spend most of your dinners in the Lighthouse, and ALWAYS do the specialty lunches at the beach.||I want to highlight a few staff who were beyond exceptional:|Joel – Most friendly, most fun, most inventive cocktails. Make friends with him immediately.|Chef Marco – Sweet guy, who is obviously passionate about the food he creates. His food is next level good. Do the cooking class with him!|Julio – Single-handedly keeps the beach moving. He runs the watersports, but brought us more drinks than the servers. Go out on the sailboat with him!|JaySon – Our primary ambassador. He ran circles around the others, not that they were bad, he was just attentive to everything. |Illaria – She remembered our orders, where we preferred to sit, and was so very pleasant. |Shawna – So sweet, and makes the best banana drinks!||I will return to this resort.

I loved how he came out and checked to make sure our meals were up to our standards…let me just say, every meal exceeded our standards every time!! ||Definitely try the demo with Chef Marco, it was such a unique experience watching, learning techniques and tips from a Michelin star chef. Not to mention, you get to eat the delicious food afterwards ! ||Try the 7 course meal at the lighthouse, you won’t be disappointed! Sir Robs steak house was delectable and highly recommend as well. ||Our villa was pristine all the time and our drinks were always stocked. ||The beach is so peaceful & beautiful and the bar/beach staff were magnificent. ||A special shout out to Ilaria for being so kind and making sure our drinks were always topped up at dinner. ||A special thank you to Samantha at front desk who was always so nice and willing to help us with anything we needed. ||I can’t say enough with how friendly and on point every staff member was, it made our trip so much more memorable.

I can’t think of anything especially bad to say about Hammock Cove. The scenery was beautiful, the staff was amazing, the food at the Steak House and Light House was great, but my wife and I (we spent a full week at Hammock Cove ) will not be coming back. ||I do have some suggestions for management: ||o Put an ice machine or freezer in each room or make an ice machine available to guests (maybe in the hotel lobby or near the pickleball courts or fitness center). I could call for more ice every half hour each time our ice bucket melted, but I shouldn’t have to. It’s something I would expect a Holiday Inn.||o Provide more than one kind of beer for the rooms. Maybe a couple of different brands, maybe a couple of light beer choices? There was every kind of high-end alcohol to choose from but only ONE type of beer? Bud Light, maybe? Coors Light, maybe? Corona, maybe?||o Provide an option for cold drinks at the pool and beach BEFORE 10:30 am. Maybe open a (self-serve) bar? Leave a cooler of drinks? If I need a cold drink at the pool at 9:00 am, I have to hike back to my room to get it. Why?||o Improve the food at the pool side restaurant. Not good. ||o Leave snacks in the rooms. If I’m at home and want a snack, I pull it out of my kitchen closet. At HC, I have to order room service and wait 20 minutes. Maybe I only want a small bag of pretzels? ||o Allow guests to communicate with the staff via an app on their personal phone (a lot of hotels have it). Carrying around an outdated phone isn’t quaint, it annoying. ||There were other issues (more than once we asked for our room to be cleaned while we were at the pool and it wasn’t, it took several days to convince the staff that all we wanted in our fridge was beer and diet coke, the patio puddled after the nightly rains) but you get the idea. ||These issues are all related to management decisions and are not a reflection of the hardworking staff at the resort. All of these issues could be easily resolved at very little cost.

My wife and I had a lovely relaxing time at Hammock Cove. The waterfront villa was spectacular; the hospitality of the staff and the high quality of food and beverages sets this resort apart from the others on the Island. BBQ seafood for lunch, amazing cocktails served to you as you relax in the crystal blue water, 7 course menu in the Lighthouse restaurant, and your own butler. Perfect. Shoutout to Shemarque, Jahrio and Joel for the amazing times at the bar.

I cannot write a review that does justice for Hammock Cove Resort. I can't speak highly enough of the team and the service they provide. D was the best ambassador, and I felt as if I were talking to an old friend when Troy visited our table for lunch or dinner. The same was true for Priscilla. Having your very own plunge pool at your villa is the best, although it does make it hard to leave your patio. From the moment we checked in, the level of service was amazing. The cleanest room and just a great experience overall. Emily, with Elite, also does a great job with the reservations and assists in any way needed. The best...
