This was our second trip to Hammock Cove and we have noticed a few changes, both good and bad.
The biggest change seems to be in the level of service. The first time we arrived at the resort, attendants were waiting at the entrance to greet us, take our bags, offer a hot towel and a drink. This was such an amazing treat after a long travel day. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen this time. There was no one to greet us at arrival. We only received a drink and towel upon entering the main building on our own.
We noticed a pattern of extremely slow service, as the week continued, especially with getting drinks on the beach and food at breakfast. Sometimes you couldn’t get anyone for ages to ask to bring you a drink on the beach. If you went to the bar and ordered yourself, it was a long time before they came. Sometimes 40 minutes or longer for one drink. I ordered some gelato one day on the beach and it took 1.5 hrs to come. I was just packing up to go back to my room when it arrived…..without a spoon. 😂 the waiter said he’d bring one. He never came back. I waited a good while and then left it.
This was kind of the status quo of service for the week. Often I felt the waiters/waitresses seemed annoyed or grumpy to take orders. I honestly felt as if it was a bother to request a coffee at times. Not a great feeling after spending so much money. It didn’t matter how pleasant we were or that we tipped as well.
Our first time at the resort, the staff was a lot more pleasant. Our room was always stocked with drinks. This time we had to ask when things ran out and we noticed they weren’t refilled.
The beach could use some cleaning in regards to the floating pads and buoys that anchor them. The buoys are covered in black and green slime so if you are in the water and they rub up against you, they leave brown/green slime on you. Pretty gross. The underside of these things are a green slime as well, so when people get on and off them, they tip up and slime falls off in long strings where you are floating/swimming.
I would also consider adding some soft foam around the stone anchors on the sea floor for these water pads or maybe a vertical buoy marker so you know where it is. More than once, I stubbed my toe on them. Ouch.
The food was very good overall. The weakest meal is breakfast in the main building. The eggs are often way overdone and mostly dry. Bacon was often burnt. They seemed to be out of some things each day. One day was ham, then bananas, etc. Just very random. A few times, the orders were wrong. Not a big deal but was just part of the overall drop in attention to detail and service.
The rooms are great overall. The tv situation is pretty abysmal. They need to upgrade to smart TVs so you can use your own streaming accounts. The cable tv offerings are very limited. Mostly news and sports. Beds are super comfy. It doesn’t matter greatly as we aren’t there to watch TV but would be nice on a rainy day and late at night when winding down. For a resort of this caliber and price, this upgrade should be a given in 2025.
Our room needed a bit of TLC in the bathroom. Some visible patching and stains on the walls. Just a good deep clean would go a long way. Oddly, there was no phone charger anymore in the rooms for the attendant cell phones. Our battery died on day two and we had to organize getting that charged. They had chargers in the rooms the first time we came. A nice addition, however, was the beach bag for use in the room. This was so handy and much appreciated!
Would I return? I’m not sure. Leaning towards not.
At the price point, things need to improve to the level of service that they used to be. As it is now, there are plenty of other resorts/vacation spots for the price that meet or exceed expectations. If service improves I would return but the overall experience has put me off for now. It’s a shame as our first experience here was impeccable and we were looking forward to this second trip.
