This is a charming historic hotel. Our room was quite lovely with large blacony and nice outdoor furniture! We spent a lot of our stay enjoying the view! Bed was comfy and we liked that it was closed off from the bedroom and seperate from the living space and bathroom. Valet was pricey but the guys were very friendly. Front desk staff were also friendly. Only two let downs, was the restaurant downstairs, The Six Sixteen-they ignored several of us who wanted to have dinner, since they wouldnt seat us we went down the street to the Harvest Restaraunt which was amazing! Second was the Breakfast that was served each morning was a so horrible they should just do away with it!! Each morning the food was gone and not replenished, there were day workers there that came and piled their plates full and left. staff didnt seem to care in the least bit. Downtown was a real let down on a weekend dead! Homeless were abundant since they camp at the park near by. Do visit the museum a couple of blocks over its free and well worth the visit!

I had a great stay here! It was just an overnight business trip but everything went smoothly. The room was spacious and clean, I was placed in one of the upgraded units so it was very modern and comfortable. I slept well and the area the hotel is in was quiet so there were no outside distractions throughout the night. The bathrooms were well stocked with toiletries and the shower was 10/10. Oftentimes I find that hotel water is hard and dries your skin out this wasn’t the case at the Tutweiler. The oversized towels were a plus as well. The breakfast area had a wide variety and met my dietary needs. Valet parking was pricey but the staff was very friendly and helpful. I like the online car request feature that makes it quick & easy to redeem your vehicle when needed.

We’ve just left this hotel. The service and lodging were some of the worst we’ve experienced. Each issue seems minor but when added all together along with the room charge ($400+/night) we will not stay in this hotel again and will advise others to avoid it. As we were traveling with son’s family, I called ahead and asked for connecting rooms; I was told because of room type we couldn’t have connecting rooms but we could have adjoining rooms. At checkin they denied they had told me this because they were completely sold out. The best they could do was 5 rooms apart. Given the layout of this “historic” hotel, that meant down the hall and around several corners. Not exactly convenient when you want to babysit kids so son and daughter-in-law can have a date night. Because it is “historic” the decor is worn and dated: grungy rugs, grungy decorative pillows, grungy curtains—in short everything was grungy. We requested that our room be serviced every day. Of course that didn’t happen and we had to request fresh towels etc. this morning we went to the “free breakfast” at 9:20. Seeing that there was no hot food, we requested it be replenished and were told that since it was after 9:20 nothing was going to be replenished. When I asked to speak to the hotel manager, I was told he/she was not onsite.(!) and there was nothing the rest of the staff could do. The manager was eventually contacted by phone and we were comped one night but that wasn’t what we needed. We needed an adequate breakfast for 3 small children. In addition, the parking situation is sketchy, we were told to either use their valet parking ($38/night) or park on the street; given the homeless population in the park across the street that option didn’t appear safe so we were forced into the valet parking. In addition, the bar/restaurant are not associated with the hotel, so you couldn’t order a drink or takeaway to consume outside the restaurant.

My wife and I had the most wonderful time in the Tutwiler. A lot of beauty and history there and the view was amazing as well. The only problem was that there was a potato chip in our bed. Do not think the room was cleaned appropriately, but over all we had a good time.

This was our 1st time stay here. If you are looking to enjoy a piece of history, here is your chance. This hotel is full of wonderful photos & artifacts from the past, it was like stepping back in time. The service was great & location is key. If I had anything to complain about it would be that the recent up grades to the hotel. We could tell the rooms had just been painted. The smell of fresh paint & there was evidence everywhere. Sadly who ever they hired to do the job should never paint again. There was over spray everywhere & we could barely get our door open because it was sticking so bad. Also one more thing breakfast was on the 8th floor which was a wonderful view, but everything we tried tasted bad or was very bland. I guess I can't complain too much about a free meal. Otherwise it is a beautiful place to visit & learn about our history.

Great historic hotel with character. We stayed here while passing through on a road trip with dogs. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The rooms have high ceilings and are tastefully furnished. We arrived late and left early but it was exactly what we needed- dog friendly, easy street parking with wooded park nearby.

So. Checked in at 4:30, regular check in is at 4. Pouring raining so we ran through the rain to get in. Not Hampton's fault. Was given a nice room on the 7th floor. Left, had dinner and drinks came back around 1030/11. Was supposed to be a staycation for my girlfriend's birthday. Turns out, they'd given us the "wrong" room and given our room to someone else. The *new* room was CONSIDERABLY older and less nice than the room we got previously. TV didn't work. Definitely ruined the night. Was looking forward to staying here. Probably won't be back and won't recommend.

Google
This hotel was under renovation with my stay. However, the room that I was in seem to be fairly newly renovated. I had other colleagues staying in different rooms that we’re not as nice as mine, but they were scheduled to be renovated, and eventually the hotel was scheduled to be turned into a double tree. It’s an old historic building gives a tremendous character. It is valet. Only there is street parking, however, be weary of the unhide population immediately across the street in the park. Valet is $32 a day. The valet does a great job of getting in the car quickly. They will send you a link to get your car via text. However, it doesn’t work that well, so you’re better off just going downstairs and asking for the car. They do have a fairly good size market. There is a restaurant on site and it is convenient to the auditorium and many places downtown.

Yelp
We stayed one night on our way through towards home. Stayed on a Sunday night. Valet guys were very attentive and friendly, despite the $35 charge- it was best to take the guess work out of the equation after driving for 10 hours on the way here. I like the Hampton Inn properties that are in former older buildings and repurposed historic buildings - which is exactly what this one was. The room was nice, however, they really should think about updating things - the carpet had stains, the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling in places, and the shower/tub was an early 90's bath fitter wrap that was discolored and looked dated. The hallways and common areas however reminded me of staying in the Plaza in NYC, so maybe the rooms are next. Would recommend staying here.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible hotel! Hotel was filthy, the sheets in my room were dirty and stained! When I tried to park, they didn't have any place to park. I had to park on the street where I was harassed by homeless people saying they were breaking into cars. This place is a nightmare.

Yelp
This Hampton Inn is situated in a charming, older building that adds a touch of character to your stay. While it doesn't offer extravagant amenities, it makes up for it with well-kept, clean rooms that ensure a comfortable stay. The blend of historic architecture and modern hospitality creates a pleasant and unique experience. The price is really reasonable.

Yelp
I stayed here for a funeral at the insistence of my family. I think the appeal of it was that it was a historic hotel. Although I later learned that the original hotel was demolished in 1974 and rebuilt at a different location in 1986 so . . . Definitely an older hotel. The thing that bothered me the most is we paid extra for a 1 bedroom suite but there was no door between the seating area and the bedroom. A door could have been put there but nope. Also, I wouldn't recommend using the sofa bed in the seating area. In our room, there would be no way to get out of the room without folding up the bed. The elevators were unpredictable. The first day, only one worked. One required a key to access the guest room floors. The other did not. Valet was quick. And accommodating. If we had to leave in 20 minutes after drop off they kept the car close. Parking on the street was possible but not super convenient for us so we used valet at $38 per day. Breakfast upstairs was good. My kid liked that she could make fresh waffles with the waffle iron each day. Some hotels only offer it on weekends. Overall not bad, not great. I wouldn't splurge for a suite here unless you really need a mini fridge and microwave.

Yelp
This is an OLD building - which is not necessarily a bad thing. But - in this case - it's outdated. Bathrooms are funky and need remodeled. Windows do not open and are single pane covered in gobs of paint. TV's are small and have terrible functionality. Lobby is small and awkward. As soon as you enter the hotel you are hit with the smell of a funky place. They don't do much to warn you that parking is nearly $50 per night for valet only. Street parking is plentiful as the downtown area is sadly near completely boarded up. Supposedly parking tickets are not a thing and if you get one you can throw it out. The city does nothing to further enforce. It's funky, grand, outdated and cool all in one. But .. It's lacking quite a lot compared to a newer hotel and the parking charge seems outrageous. They could buy one of the many empty lots or dilapidated parking lots neighboring the property for little $. The struggle is real in Birmingham. I hope this city can turn around the downtown area soon. This is not an 8 out of 10 hotel like other sites claim. More of a 6 of 10 with hidden $50 parking charge in a town with tumbleweeds blowing down the roads.

Yelp
The hotel is older but just beautiful. The front desk staff and valets are exceptional people and were all friendly and accommodating to the guests. I stayed for 3 nights in the hotel on business with two coworkers. My room was a nice size and I had a wonderful view from my room. The room did not have a mini fridge (you will have to book a suite for a mini fridge). They serve breakfast from 6:30 to 9 am on the 8th floor. The breakfasts were ok but beware of the coffee and hard boiled eggs. The only issue I had with the hotel was a moldy smell inside the hotel. I mentioned it but there was no explanation. I'm not sure I'd stay here for sure again but if I had to I would stay at this hotel. I did get some good sleep after a days work.

Yelp
As a frequent traveler and fan of Hiltons, I had high hopes for this Hampton Inn. Those were quickly dashed by the lack of really anything other than a standard room that was somewhat clean. Most Hiltons offer a daily food credit. Since I knew I would be leaving before breakfast opened, I asked at the front desk what their policy is. No food credit, nothing, not even for a longtime Diamond member. As others have noted, there was no fridge or microwave in the room. (Though there was a microwave on the 8th floor.) The fitness center didn't open until 6 a.m., which isn't useful for most business travelers. There is only valet parking, at $35 a night, which is reasonable. Just be sure to text them well before you are ready as it takes a while for them to bring out your vehicle, regardless of the time of day. Or better yet, find another Hilton brand to stay at.

Yelp
I think people are being too harsh. This is a historical building and it is beautiful. The customer service was amazing and the valet parking was top tier.

Yelp
Staff is super friendly. But the place needs some work. I know it is old and historical, etc. But... 1. That elevator situation is nuts. I get securing guests with requiring a key card for the elevator. Do it. But it needs to WORK. There were 8-9 people in each elevator and neither worked. This occurred twice. We just took the stairs finally. Later? It was working. 2. USB charger unit in the room didn't work. 3. Ice machines on lower floors didn't work. Finally found one that had a sign to go to the 5th floor for a working ice machine. Ok. Why not have those signs permanently on walls on all floors? Or better yet have ice machines on each floor that work so you don't have to guess whether the unreliable elevators will work and then guess where the ice machine that works is. 4. Vent fans in the bathrooms. Install some. Good things. 1. Water pressure. Awesome. 2. Aesthetic. Cool homage to the city's past. 3. Valet and desk. Truly helpful.

Yelp
I stayed here for two weeknights recently. The bathroom could have been cleaner but in general I liked my room and the hotel overall is fairly nice in my opinion. The breakfast could use some work, both mornings I was here there weren't any fruits or vegetables to choose from. This is a pretty cool place to stay in though and I can tell it has history, if the hotel focuses on improving in a few areas it could be worth a 4 or 5 star review. The workers I encountered were courteous. Lastly my room lacked a fridge or microwave which I feel like is pretty standard these days. Update: I've had to stay here some more nights recently for work and there are definitely more issues I've encountered so I'm making this a 1 star review instead of 3. One of my last two stays was in a room that had an extremely loud heating and cooling system and the pillows were terrible. Then I opted to be in my first room this past week and this time the room that was attached to my unit with an adjoining door was actually being inhabited... and I could hear everything the people said and vice versa. I swear they could literally hear me chew. I came back from buying something at the store a bit late (10pm) and they started making comments after I was messing with loud bags. They were fine but I hated being put in that spot. Felt like I was sharing my room with strangers. Also both rooms had shower drains that were barely working at all. Lastly, there is a small bit of fruit at breakfast but it's nearly hidden so it's hard to find. All in all I don't recommend this hotel.

Yelp
We booked our reservation through the Hilton. I received a copy of the bill via email before we arrived days later. When we got there, there was no parking, so I was happy we paid for parking with our reservation. We looked for room 710. And after counting the room numbers, we realized that the zero was missing. Our room only had the number 1 on the sign. The room was clean, but we were hit by a moldy/old smell every time we would leave and re-enter the room for about 5-10 minutes. The wallpaper was peeling in the corner of the wall in the bathroom. When I checked out on 09/30/23, the price was about $50 more than the amount in the email from booking. The representative at the desk said it was for incidentals and should fall off. I electronically signed. When my credit card was charged, the $50 was still included in the price. I called on 10/05, 10/10, and 10/19. When I called on 10/10, I was told that the $50 should be pending and to call my credit card company. It was not. I sent an email with a copy of my first receipt, the receipt at checkout, my credit card statement, and a video of the room. I was told to send it to guest.correspondence@hilton.com. I received an email reply stating that I was only charged for room, tax and parking. It is terrible customer service to not honor the current price you billed me for. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Yelp
Very cool atmosphere with a lot of the area history. The area was great, the rooms were clean BUT... my reservation was for 3 nights but I checked out early on the third day due to no hot water. The first night I thought it was due to taking a late shower, the next morning, no hot water, the evening no hot water. Not one to complain about things I just decided to check out. The young girl at the desk seemed concerned and was apologetic but it didn't reflect the bill at all. Valet parking was a must due to the Birmingham area at night and $35 per day was kinda ridiculous.

Yelp
Centrally located, and the old & new library is just across the street. Hotel is clean and well appointed. This is a landmark old building and staff pleasant. The bar / restaurant was finely sweet. The sign-in front desk was tiny and overwhelmed but the people there quite helpful. Valet car service useful, and parking is available on the street for free overnight but check with staff about it. The civil rights historic buildings are a 15 minute walk.

Yelp
My fiancé and I stayed here two nights as it was close to a show we were attending. Every staff member was very friendly. We had plumbing issues immediately that were fixed. However, the AC in the room didn't work well, the lighting is horrible, only two very cheap towels were given , and the free breakfast was awful. For the money it was definitely not worth it.

Charles H E.

Yelp
The staff was very accommodating and polite. They are not the issue. Two towels for three days.. elevators were slow. Very slow. The tv was awful. The ac couldn't be controlled in the room. It says it can, however that's a farce. Two stars was generous.

Yelp
We were so impressed by the grand appearance of this hotel, as well as the location, but at the end of the day this is really just a Hampton Inn... and it showed. The staff was extremely nice and even let us check in a few hours early, the lobby area was updated and stylish with artwork throughout that nodded to the historic nature, and the onsite bar and restaurant was a nice addition. Beyond that, the room was just okay. The majority of the view was a brick wall, the lamps on the nightstands were not only so old that the shades were stained but the bases also lacked USB ports (they even had some kind of LAN cable port, not sure what you'd even use that for?!), and the small mini fridge was placed on top of a rolling dolly. It was spacious enough for two, but for the price point, I would have expected more. Mandatory valet was kind of annoying, but you can text a number to ask them to bring your car around and also tip through that, so that was kind of a bonus. The free breakfast was also pretty decent with lots of hot options (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffle maker) and continental selections as well. The central location was this hotel's best feature - walking distance to museums, library, food hall, etc.

Yelp
Cupcake invited me to spend a few nights with her in Birmingham and I chose The Tutwiler. Things started off well when they offered us early check in but steadily slid downhill. The room was nice size although somewhat worn and dated. If you decide to stay on an upper floor I suggest prior to entering the shower you turn the water on full hot and then go watch a half hour sitcom. Perhaps also a room location issue; we found the hotel internet weak and unreliable. I got a stronger signal from the Redmont Hotel down the block. Seriously, if you require a strong WiFi connection for work you may want to reconsider staying here. Breakfast was OK. Buffet offered eggs with one meat each morning along with bread and oatmeal selections. Standard waffle maker and only one fruit. Found it annoying they don't have hot water readily available (or tea bags) and had to ask the staff each day to go into the kitchen to get it for us. The hotel lounge, 6 Sixteen Bar, was great but it is independently operated and has their own Yelp page so I will review on their page. Lastly, this hotel rarely has anyone at the front desk during evening and early morning hours. Several times we had to walk around the lobby calling out because no one was anywhere nearby. We were concerned about getting our car from the valet on our planned early morning departure and were assured there is always someone at the valet station 24 hours a day. Well, guess what happened when we went to leave at 4am? We walked out the front doors (which at night lock behind you) only to find no valet. For some reason my Hilton App Digital Key showed me as checked out so we were locked out of the hotel. The valet wasn't getting anyone else's car, there was no one waiting or luggage around. We were pressing the call button and banging on the front door to get someone's attention for some time. The front desk is only 5 feet away from this door but as I mentioned previously...no one is ever there! Eventually the valet heard the commotion from wherever he was up in one of the lobby sitting rooms and came to assist us. We never did see a front desk attendant that morning. Not cool!

Matthew S.

Yelp
The special thing about this hotel is it's restaurant. Wow! The Six Sixteen is a special place! The apple pie is will change your life! Beverly and her family have made my trip to Birmingham memorable!

Yelp
First off I tried to give this place the benefit of a doubt but everything sum total has just chipped away at the experience. The one nice thing I can say is that the room was clean. 1. In none of the descriptions of this place did it show there was no onsite parking. It stated there was valet parking. When we pulled in we found out our only other option was street parking. I don't like parking on the street so valet it was. An extra $37 a night. :( 2. There is no fridge in the room. We always bring our own drinks so had to make due with using the ice machine the entire stay. Also to add the ice machine on our floor was broken so I had to go up 2 floors to the working machine each night. :( 3. The cable provider (spectrum) was horrible. Multiple guides for multiple sets of channels. About half the channels didn't work because I guess Spectrum lost their deal with Disney. Some channels didn't even have sound. The tv was an old RCA from years ago. 4. One day, a lady that I assume came to clean the room walked in without knocking. Luckily, we were just eating lunch. 5. One reason I like staying at Hilton hotels is that they have house keeping by request. On the final morning of checkout, we had a lady knocking on the door to do housekeeping two hours before checkout. 6. It has not been updated recently. Pay the money and go to the nicer hotels or don't stay downtown.

Yelp
I recently stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites Tutwiler in downtown Birmingham and was sorely disappointed. I chose this location because it's in a historic old building in downtown and I like funky old places. From experience I know that staying in an old building has limitations compared to a new hotel, but that wasn't the issue with the Tutwiler. The real issue is the place isn't clean or well maintained. I read that in 2007 there was a major remodel....well, it's time for another. Remodel or not, they could at least clean the place. The place is dirty, not well maintained, and in bad need of a remodel. Even the exterior had issues with trash laying around and signs peeling. On the upside, the staff were very friendly and it is a beautiful old building. I hope these folks can get it together.

Yelp
What a hole, the reviews are not honest. rm 303 has indoor outdoor carpeting that would embarrass the guy sleeping by the dumpster, look at these stains. 200 bucks plus 35 for valet, heck even if its free, keep driving
google avatar

Anissa C.

Yelp
The rooms are in need of remodeling. The carpet in our room was old and worn. The pillows are cheap and not firm at all. The only good part is the bar and the location..

Yelp
The hotel room felt dingy and dark, my husband and I had suite with a balcony the mirrors in the room were smokey looking like they have not been whipped down for quite a while, the balcony floor was all sticky like someone had a party in the room and the group spilled drinks and no one cared to mop up outside. When wait to use the elevator you can see the wallpaper peeling off the walls, the windows were really dirty on both sides. In the dining room food was Ok the waitress was great for only having been there for 2 weeks, and the music was even better. My husband has Drone and wanted to use his drone to show the colors that the photos showed on the Ad will the color lights on the Hotel unfortunately lights were only for the ad :(. A word to be safe don't go out the back door you will have a lot of homeless people running up to you asking for money and that was scary, we only went out that way because in the ad that's where the color light were supposed to be on the hotel. our stay was from 10-21 to 10-22-22 for $287.08 not worth it PARKING $35.00 10/21/2022 2022325 MISC - STATE TAX $1.40 10/21/2022 2022325 MISC - CITY TAX $1.40 10/21/2022 2022325 MISC - COUNTY TAX $0.70 10/21/2022 2022441 GUEST ROOM $209.00 10/21/2022 2022441 RM - STATE TAX $8.36 10/21/2022 2022441 RM - OCCUPANCY TAX $10.45 10/21/2022 2022441 RM - CITY TAX $13.59 10/21/2022 2022441 RM - COUNTY TAX $4.18 10/21/2022 2022441 TOURISM TAX $3.00 10/22/2022 2022574 VS *9059

Yelp
Enjoyed a two night stay this week. All carpet and furniture upholstery is now new. Free breakfast includes an oatmeal bar, eggs, sausage, and grits. Sit down dining room with gorgeous chairs and amazing hall mirrors! Front desk staff and valet staff are kind, helpful and friendly. Was easily able to park on the street with no issues. Ignore the extortionists and stay here for the memories! 4 1/2 stars on Trip Advisor.

Yelp
The worst hotel in the world (besides disney world). I hate hate hate this place. If hell were a place it would be here. I swear. When I walked into my room there was a full on rat! Yes you heard me right RAT. Now I was so scared with my little kendell and we ran out so fast and didn't even have time to complain because of how scared she was. I will be suing...

Yelp
Quant historic hotel near Linn Park and central to a number of attractions on the North side of downtown. Very clean, excellent service, convenient valet parking and within walking distance of a variety of things to do in the area. This is a great example of a hotel that must be 100 years old but that has been well taken care of while maintaining its charm. The bar and restaurant are both up to par or better, so you can get good food and cocktails without leaving the place. The room I stayed in had great views of the city and a nice little balcony in the event that you'd want to step out for a bit of air. Overall a great experience and I would definitely stay here again. Couldn't have been more pleased.

Lisa K.

Yelp
I booked a weekend reservation and at the end of the call the reservationist advised she'd transfer me for their points program. A "gentleman" got on the phone and gave a quick run down, to which I said "No thanks". He rudely responded "Your loss". Didn't catch his name, but this is the last person you'd want in sales. I'd heard this was a reputable, high end hotel. Clearly not.

Yelp
Stayed a night and it was nice. Close to interstate so you will have some of that noise but it wasn't horrible. Room was clean.

Yelp
My first encounter at the front desk was already dull and not welcoming. There was no smile or any sense of being welcomed to the hotel/city. I was placed in a room that keeps pumping hot air, and has a temperature gage that appears to be controllable but it is not. I called and they said in order to make the room cool, they would have to send a repair man to switch the settings, and send them back again to switch it back to warm. This had to be done before 11pm because at that time the repair man leaves and whatever the a.c. is set on, that's where it will stay. This request was made at 10pm, so I just put up with it. I had to continuously request tissues and towels, because they would take whatever was used but not replace it. When I arrived the room had an empty box of tissues, I asked to get a fresh box. During my 5 day stay, I never received this request. My top-worst part of the stay, was when I requested an extra hour to check out, which was not a problem. I called back to make sure they would not try and clean the room during that hour I was still in the room trying to get rid of a bad migraine. The front desk lady said they would not come to the room if I was in it, and hung up on me. Well... They came to the room not once, but twice, attempting to clean the room. The first time it wasn't even check out time, the second was slightly after (still much before the window of extension I asked). They kept knocking on the door. When I explained I had requested an extension, they just stayed in front of my room for about 20 minutes jiggling the keys, trying to rush me out of the room. The historical building is pretty on the outside. That's about it.

Yelp
A year and a half later, I returned to downtown Birmingham for two nights. I opted to stay again here since my last experience was positive. And since the location is perfect for downtown Birmingham, I decided to do without a car. The hotel is still clean and comfortable, but an odd configuration for a Hampton. They still manage to put the Hampton stuff in here - the small market area and the free wifi and the large breakfast area upstairs. The room layout is a little strange, but I've learned that it's because the hotel used to be an apartment building and was converted. It still works, it's just an odd configuration that gives the rooms and the properly a charming character. Once again, every staff member I interacted with was kind and friendly and welcoming. This is a super hotel and it's great to have the ability to stay with a "major" brand in downtown B'ham.

Yelp
Why 3 stars? Because it was a nice property, but I would have preferred more modern. --- --- --- I appreciate the history of a hotel like the Tutweiler, but it's just my personal preference to stay in a place with modern amenities. The people were friendly here, and the lobby was quite nice - I had to take a couple of calls and the den-like rooms they have off to the side of the main lobby were perfect for that! I also enjoyed some complimentary lemon/lime water and coffee from said lobby, which really came in handy. But here are my issues: 1) There is a governor on the AC. My thermostat was set to 65 with the fan on high, but in reality it was about 8-10 degrees warmer than that. I enjoy sleeping in the cold, and felt a bit restless because of this. 2) The comforter had some really weird texture on it and was quite heavy, which also contributed to less-than-ideal sleep. It was the type of blanket you'd expect at Grandma's house (i.e. the kind of blanket from a historical hotel.) 3) The pillows were tiny. These days, longer pillows are all you'll find in just about any hotel, but these were super short, and definitely not ideal. I didn't hate my stay here, but I likely will opt for an alternative next time I'm in Birmingham.

Yelp
Please beware of bed bugs. Woke up in the early morning with bite marks. Unfortunately my flight was early and was not able to complain right away. Came back home and let the manager know of this. Never got a call back. Called Hilton directly and setup a complaint. Very unprofessional. Will not be booking any room there any more. Book at your own risk. I got a reply to my complaint within the hour that they had it professionally checked and there is no issue. I am not sure how you can have it checked so fast but sure... i will take your word for it.

Yelp
Loved our recent stay at this beautiful & historic hotel Downtown Birmingham! Our stay was excellent from start to finish. We were greeted at the door by several friendly valet staff who took good care of our car, enjoyed a few fresh cookies at the front desk, and were able to check-in quickly. The rooms are beautiful and were spotless. Plenty of fresh towels were available for us. We were even able to snag a breakfast bag "to-go" at the front desk on the morning of check-out"! Would definitely stay here again and recommend this hotel to others!

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the presidential suite! If you are staying here after an event or staying with a group I highly recommend the presidential suite! It was very spacious and really pretty! I was super impressed with the customer service & vintage glow of this hotel!

Yelp
I was in town for a conference, and my hosts put me up here. When I saw the name Hampton Inn, I was expecting the usual Hampton Inn hotel style. Boy, was I wrong. This has old world charm, but all of the modern amenities that you want. It feels like a throwback in time, and the hotel is beautiful. I had a beautiful suite, with a living area. It feels like a step back in time, but you have everything you need for a modern stay.

Yelp
My mother and I went here for the Jonas Brothers Concert. Everything in Birmingham was extremely crowded due to the concert, but the staff here was absolutely wonderful! They only have valet parking but it is very beneficial because you do not have to worry about parking. Hotel rooms are very nice and open! Beautiful views (especially their courtyard). Breakfast is great as well!! All around great place to stay

Yelp
This is a historic hotel which is nice outside, nice lobby and great staff. Carpets are threadbare and in my room were spotted and dirty. Shower waffled between hot and cold and lights flickered several times in the evening and morning. Not happy valet parking is pretty much your only option. Not terrible but not great.

Yelp
Our stay, hotel and staff where pleasant. However the reason for the 3 rating the hotel only offered valet parking at $32 a day, no microwave in room, they provided only grab & go breakfast.

Yelp
Worst hotel experience ever! The front desk was so rude, their restaurant was closed, they offered breakfast boxes in the mornings that consisted of bagged boiled eggs, gluten free bagel, and possibly a fruit if you got lucky, their plumbing wasn't working properly and they only had one maintenance worker for a 100+ year old building so it took over an hour to get any help, their 24 hour coffee set up at the front desk was consistently empty and missing utensils, and the rooms were NOT cleaned very well at all and were also missing many of the amenities typically provided but God forbid you have to ask the front desk for anything! The only saving grace was the politeness of the vallet staff that were much more helpful than anyone at the front desk. Not the expectation you would have for a hilton, more like an extremely expensive motel 6.

Yelp
We arrived at 3 am and the staff working overnight on May 3rd/4th were so welcoming and helpful with getting our Jeep and trailer parked. Breakfast is good and the woman working was also friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and thank you for making our move easier!

Yelp
Huge shout out to Kay and the front desk team. Kay was able to pull a few strings quickly and cover for an Orbitz booking mistake. Very rare to see hotels go above and beyond in this day and age and she definitely delivered on a very busy travel day.

Yelp
The best customer service I've ever experienced! I got to the hotel to check in at 9:30pm and was greeted by the kindest woman. She gave me a late checkout, explained the hotel amenities wonderfully, and was so friendly. I had forgotten my phone charger and went back down to the front desk to ask where I could go get one. A man working on maintenance in the foyer heard me and offered his phone charger to me overnight!! The next day I checked out and went to the hotel restaurant where I was greeted with equally friendly service with a smile. I highly recommend this hotel!!

Yelp
I can hear the lady talking loudly two rooms down. It started at 6am. Trying to keep the AC running constantly so I can sleep. Definitely not a hotel to come to for peace and quiet. The carpets are dirty and the ceiling drips water.

Yelp
Impressive hotel in Birmingham! The valet parking is ran very well, even though it is tight maneuvering into the hotel entrance. The folks at the front desk were all smiles, and they were helpful and accommodating from when I arrived until I checked out. I love it when the hotel puts its best personalities out front. As for the building, it is a historic structure in the middle of town; the architecture and decor are eye pleasing. The rooms are well appointed and modern enough, and they have a good view of the city skyline. I felt the bathroom was a bit underwhelming, but it was adequate. Oh, and by the way, the bed slept awesome! I slept like a rock! I will stay with these folks again as my travels take me through this great city. Until next time... JM

Yelp
The staff at this hotel is extremely friendly. The room and common areas were clean. I was about to wash my face with one of their white towels and noticed many hairs intertwined in the towel...that is just disgusting! House keeping should have noticed this & threw the towel away. You also have to pay for parking which was not mentioned in the hotel.com booking.

Yelp
I'm at a loss of words. I've stayed here several times...always looking forward to my next visit. No more. I'm here with my daughter while she's taking the Bar...when we checked in I understood that the wait was long because of a full house...but, interestingly enough, 50% of the folks in line where there bc their Keys has not been properly coded. They couldn't get in their rooms...I was still patient...happy to be here...we went to our room and it was worn looking...that's was ok bc of the ambiance....history....we then went to the bar to have a drink...it was PACKED! And only one poor guy working. He was hustling and doing the best he could alone. But I wondered why in the world didn't they have enough folks working?! It's not like all these people here was a big surprise! I made our reservations months ago! After a drink we wanted to order food to go...I asked the bar guy should we order room service or here...he looked at me and said, "I have no good answer for that." We went up to our room and I called room service...3 Times...no answer! So we left and ate off sight. Came back and took showers...much to my annoyance, there was a razor cap (not ours) in the shower...which was dingy... I'm really sad bc this was a nice place...no more. Oh...and I paid $180 a night!!! Now that makes me angry. We're getting $50 a night service for that price. Sad to see this place go down so bad!

Yelp
This place ain't cheap. No it's not too awful expensive but it's going to cost you a little. But you know what? You get what you pay for and there is a reason Hampton Inn costs a bit more than regular hotels, because it's worth it. The beds alone are worth it IMO. And this Hampton Inn is a beautiful historical hotel to stay in. We arrived and were helped out to unload all of our stuff by the friendliest folks who valet parked my car. Which brings me to a minor complaint, I don't like having to do valet but I understand the reason for it here..but I still don't like it and I don't know why they don't include the $20 or whatever charge in your hotel fee for it. Anyways, we got unloaded quickly and got checked in by some very friendly staff and went up to our room. It was already nice and cool and looked really really beautiful. Yes the room size itself is smaller than typical Hampton Inns but that's the nature of the beast with a historical hotel. The bed was plush and awesome, the shower was powerful and refreshing and overall I have not a single complaint about the actual room. The inside of the hotel is amazing and just begs to be explored a little. We sit in the sitting room and looked through some wonderful engagement and wedding photographs. Apparently a lot of people get married here in the garden. Yes this neighborhood isn't the best but it's not awful either. I'd not recommend going out at night as there looks like some troublemakers in the park nearby but during the day it's fine and there is a police presence there so you don't feel too unsafe to go out and about and do your business. I had a stun gun with me during our walk in the park in the a.m. just in case anyone decided to get a little grabby but it was probably overkill. But hey, better to be safe than sorry right? The next day we checked our bill and our valet parking was not on the bill. No money had been taken when we checked in either. So we loaded up the car, checked out and figured the valet would then ask us for payment. He did not. Being the honest person I am I brought it up and he said I could pay him directly. I figured he might just pocket it but truthfully I didn't care if he did, I just wanted to not have to live with the guilt of not paying, so I gave him $25 and told him to keep the extra $5. We got into the car and while getting our GPS going and everything he came back with a receipt for $20 from the front desk which was nice, I mean to see another person who was also honest. The kid could have easily just pocketed the entire amount. This place was a really enjoyable stay. The hotel is pure class. It's great to see a really beautiful slice of history. I'd give it 5 stars except for the valet confusion and just, in general, the neighborhood it's in (which like I said isn't awful but it's not that great either). Hampton Inn should be proud to call this a hotel of theirs.

Yelp
The strangest thing after I settled in my room. The pest control guy open my door to Inspect while I already there without knocking. He apologize that the front desk did not notify him. Half an hour later another guest opened the door for the front desk had checked him into the same room. I was not happy! I called the front desk and informed them of the situation. She apologized for the mistake. The hotel manager followed up with me 15 min later and offer to comp the room or meal. I declined but she personally knock on my door a few minutes later with water and chocolate apologizing for the mistakes they made. That was very nice of her to personally come to my room to say it won't happen again. I think this mistake was due to inexperience front desk personnel. They need training! Needless to say, I latched my door now.

Yelp
We loved our stay at the Tutwiler. The rooms and grounds were immaculate, and every single member of the staff we met could not have been more courteous. They have a great in-hotel restaurant, valet parking, and the hotel's location is perfectly situated in the heart of Birmingham's banking district downtown. Highly recommend if you plan on staying in Birmingham overnight.
