We were so impressed by the grand appearance of this hotel, as well as the location, but at the end of the day this is really just a Hampton Inn... and it showed. The staff was extremely nice and even let us check in a few hours early, the lobby area was updated and stylish with artwork throughout that nodded to the historic nature, and the onsite bar and restaurant was a nice addition. Beyond that, the room was just okay. The majority of the view was a brick wall, the lamps on the nightstands were not only so old that the shades were stained but the bases also lacked USB ports (they even had some kind of LAN cable port, not sure what you'd even use that for?!), and the small mini fridge was placed on top of a rolling dolly. It was spacious enough for two, but for the price point, I would have expected more. Mandatory valet was kind of annoying, but you can text a number to ask them to bring your car around and also tip through that, so that was kind of a bonus. The free breakfast was also pretty decent with lots of hot options (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffle maker) and continental selections as well. The central location was this hotel's best feature - walking distance to museums, library, food hall, etc.
