Yelp
Wish I could say that staying here was a Suite experience. Alas, given what they're charging, it was thisclose to Inn-sulting:
So yeah... While trying to book a hotel for a summer visit to Chicago, it became painfully obvious it was going to cost a small fortune if we wanted both amenities and convenient location. Even if the nightly rate was doable, the parking fees were exorbitant. Eventually, I decided to go with this, the seemingly most *reasonable* Hilton Honors option.
Anyway, hubby, kid and I landed here after getting spoiled by some really lovely, spacious digs at the Hyatt Place in Saint Paul. In comparison, the room here was tiny and depressing. Also, weirdly enough, the coffee machine I assume we were meant to use each morning was stored on a shelf below the sink in the bathroom. Yes, you read that right! That grossed me out on so very many levels.
We made the grievous error, too, of anticipating we'd have a fridge in our room for what we were paying. Nope. That'll run you $10 more per night. I wound up using my charms to get that fee waived, but it was the darn principle of the thing. I mean, we'd gotten all these perishable treats from Mars Cheese Castle on our way into town and did not even imagine there would be no fridge.
As for parking, don't quote me, but I believe this hotel charges $59 per day. We were begrudgingly ready to suck it up. But then hubby managed to find a spot across the street; the same one oddly enough for three nights in a row. I think it was $4.00 per hour from 8 am until midnight for metered parking; not exactly cheap but still less than $59, given we were moving the car for long stretches of time each day.
Location-wise, we probably didn't take full advantage. But we were able to walk to Lou Malnati's to get our deep dish fix. And to Michigan
Avenue for shopping. And to Firecakes for its very recommendable donuts.
Also, on the plus side, our room was clean and was kept that way throughout our stay. And I was not bothered by loud sirens from the nearby fire station, but that could well be because I live in NYC and this is akin to white noise for me.
Bottom line: Pricey af. And basic. Just like your Mom. Jk. But seriously, I have zero desire to return to this hotel next time I'm in Chicago. It's A-OK, but only barely.
