How Jim Didn't Let a New Disability Change His Travels

"I prefer the Hampton Inn Honors program because it clearly describes rooms and accessibility details, which makes it easier for me to identify suitable lodging." - Matthew Kepnes

I stayed at this Hampton Inn a few weeks ago and the service was terrible. The rooms were decent, but the front desk staff carried themselves like helping guests was a chore. The only decent interaction I had was with the person who checked me in on Friday. Everyone else I dealt with at the desk over the weekend was unprofessional and dismissive. What really set me off was trying to speak with a manager. During my stay I was brushed off, and when I called back afterward, they gave me nothing but excuses and the runaround. No accountability, no effort. For a hotel sitting right across from the Gaylord, where service is much better, this place was a huge disappointment. 0/10 would not recommend.

This Hampton Inn is wonderful. The staff were so sweet and helpful. The hotel was going through renovations, yet the workers and staff did not allow that to stop them from being kind and considerate of others. My only issue is that I wish there was more light in the room. Even with all of the lights on, it was still a bit darker than I liked. Why did I not take off a star for that? Because bright rooms are my quirk.

Absolutely the worst hotel stay I’ve had in years. I stayed at the Hampton Inn National Harbor for a week, and it was a disaster from start to finish. The key card system was completely broken—I was locked out of my room 28 times. Every time I had to either go all the way down to the front desk or call for help. Half the time no one even answered the phone, and several times there wasn’t a single staff member at the desk when I got there. I just stood around waiting 5–10 minutes for someone to show up. Only one elevator was working the entire week, so getting from the lobby to my room often took more than five minutes. On top of that, the hotel was a mess with renovations everywhere. Not once did the staff apologize or take accountability for any of it. They acted like it wasn’t their problem and offered zero compensation for the countless issues every guest was clearly experiencing. Even checkout was a headache. Despite me emailing my tax-exempt form four days in advance (as they requested), they couldn’t find it and wasted more of my time. I expect better from Hampton, but this property is run terribly. Broken systems, long waits, zero service, and staff who just don’t care. Avoid this hotel—I will never stay here again.

This hotel was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a Hilton hotel. We got two rooms to fit our whole family. The first room had no hot water, and didn’t even have a blanket on the bed! Basic standards missed. The second room ac did not work for the two days we were there. I am checking out at 78 degrees in our room right now. We also had loud crowds in the hall til I called twice to have someone sent up late at night. I wouldn’t stay here for free. |And yes all of these concerns were conveyed to staff in real time.

I used digital check in for 3pm yet even at 3:45/4pm my room wasn’t ready. I finally had to go to the front desk and get a different room and physical keys. At least the guy was very nice. Apparently one of the elevators was broken, which was part of my reason for selecting a 2nd floor room. Ended up on the 4th floor and opted to use the stairs all week anyway. I finally saw elevator repair crews after 2 days but I never tried them again (it’s a tall conference hotel, this should be a priority though). Bed was comfy, bathroom was clean and well appointed. Shower was nice. Would be nice to have an outlet by the bed but there were several at the desk. Fridge works well. Microwave is in the room but I didn’t try it out. Only real issue in the room was the A/C - temperature didn’t get very low and it had no “always on” function. It cycled quite loudly all night, every night as it turned on and off. Woke me up several times. Had to use a noise machine to attempt to drown out the sound.

I tried to check in at noon and they wanted to charge me an extra $50 because their check-in wasn't for a couple more hours despite the room being ready. Subsequently, I asked to have my room cleaned while I stayed at their hotel and they entered it into their system, but my room never got cleaned despite asking three times nor did I get any fresh towels, which I asked for on two different occasions. Very unhappy that our convention recommended this hotel. The Hotel offered me 5000 rewards points which is basically like giving somebody very little to go away. Upsetting that our convention recommended this hotel since I'm sure they don't realize the service.

This is an average to below-average hotel in a premium location and is **slightly** cheaper than the place across the street. The only redeeming things about this hotel are the size of the room we had (2 queen suite), the breakfast was pretty good, and the location. They do every other day housekeeping, which I never mind, but then they don't leave extra toilet paper or trash bags. Mattress was not comfortable. The pillows? Bring your own. Also, don't forget you have to pay a daily parking fee of $24. My biggest pet peeve was the singular working elevator for 10 floors. It was almost impossible to get on the elevator on your room's floor in less than 5 minutes and when we were wheeling a cart around, we had no choice but to wait. The 20+ minute wait for the elevator while we were tying to bring a luggage cart down for check-out was super fun and not frustrating at all.

Great customer service. When stepping off of the elevator the floor smelled like mildew and wet carpet. The molding from the baseboards were gone. No pictures in the lobby areas except for the rooms. Rooms were clean. Good location in walking distance to almost everything. It did take awhile to get on the elevator due to one being out of service.
