Really disappointed in our stay at this hotel. We stayed here last night 10/23/25, on our cross country trip from FL to CO that we take every year. We typically stop in Lawrence or Topeka, but pushed a bit further because we were making good time. There were a number of options in the area, but we chose this hotel specifically because of the excellent reviews. We paid over $150 for a two queen bed room on a Thursday. Which makes this the most expensive hotel we have stayed in on cross country trips over the years. Well it was not money well spent…
First the good things. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The young lady that checked us in asked about our travels and gave us restaurant recommendations for dinner. The hotel is very clean. Not necessarily any cleaner than other 3 star hotels we stay at, but they do a great job with cleanliness and upkeep. You can tell the hotel was recently renovated. The fitness center is great, and has more equipment than many hotels. We did not use the pool, but it looked nice and well maintained. Its location and proximity to I-70 make it very convenient for travelers.
Now for the bad… We were given a room that had an adjoining room next door. After 2, 13 hour days in the car our main goal for a hotel is to get a good nights sleep, so we can be rested and ready to hit the road for another day of driving. A little after midnight the people in the adjoining room. With checked in or returned to their room. Because there is a gap under the doors between rooms, we could hear everything they said and did. I do not think they were being overly loud, but they were having a good time and listening to music until 2:30am and it was basically like we were trying to sleep in the room with them. Needless to say we did not get much sleep at all. The rooms are also quite bright at night. There are gaps under and around the doors that let in light, light comes in around the blinds, there are lights on the fire alarm/suppression units, and lights on the plugs in the bathroom. If you like dark rooms like I do, you will be disappointed. The beds are very firm, and as a side sleeper I found them incredibly uncomfortable. Both my wife and I woke up sore and not well rested. All in all I got about 3 hours of sleep after a 13 hour day of driving. Finally the breakfast was very limited, and when we ate just before 8am there was no meat option offered. There was a place for sausage, but while we were dining it was never replenished. Potatoes were mushy and my wife said the eggs were not good.
Overall it was a very overpriced hotel that was nowhere near as nice as the Quality Inn we stayed at the previous night in Tennessee, for 33% more money. There is actually a Quality Inn nearby that was $40 cheaper last night, that I really wish we would have chosen instead. As they say, you live and you learn. I learned that we will definitely not stay here again in the future.
