I stayed here for three days for a conference. Overall, it was a nondescript stay - nothing too notable one way or another, but not negative. Then, the night before I checked out, I noticed that the surface of the bedside table looked like it was moving. For a moment, I thought it was my eyes. I blinked a few times and put on my reading glasses. I found that there were a ton of bugs darting around on the surface of the bedside table. They weren't ants, they weren't bed bugs, and they were not flying. Their movements were so fast and weirdly jerky - almost like they were digital rather than analog (so to speak). I tried to kill as many as I was fast enough to get with a tissue, but when there was about a half-dozen left, they were just too fast. (I am not an insect killer usually and even relocate spiders, but bugs in a hotel room are a different story.) I then video-taped them to be able to zoom in and get a better look. I will post the video. Keep in mind, this is a post manual extermination video. -- Now, I don't know how many of you attend conferences for work, but when you are at the end of a conference and leaving in the morning, packing up everything and moving to a new room or a new hotel (when hotel rooms were sparsely available in the first place) feels futile. First, I had already been there for two nights. Moving to another room in the hotel felt futile, because why would any other room be less likely to have the same bugs? I already keep all my bags sequestered to minimize any chance of bed bugs. After weighing out my options, I decided to just try to get sleep since I was leaving the next morning. (I did the dryer treatment on everything when home.). Given all the listed "foregone" circumstances, I figured I'd let the front desk know in the morning. Again, I was exhausted at the end of this conference. The next morning, as a courtesy, I waited until all other guests were away from the desk and approached Fernando (I think was his name). I quietly started to tell him what I found the night before and started to play the video. Since I had chosen to be discreet and not make a fuss, I had FULLY expected the issue to be met with appreciation for my discretion. (Note: Not once did I ask for a refund.). Instead, he immediately took the $%&@iest attitude with me with a sneer to match, and said, "And you're telling me about this now???" I was stunned. Literally stunned. Every ounce of that grace I was initially using was gone. I informed him that he should be thanking me for my discretion. His attitude and downright @##holeness never wavered. What could have been a completely benign exchange turned into the worst exchange I've ever had with a hotel associate. @##hole begets @##hole. For anyone who wants to say that I should have met his @##holeness with kindness, I had already started with kindness. That did not beget kindness. As I've read other reviews, it looks like several others have dealt with similar treatment. I called the corporate office the minute I left and while still in the parking lot. I was told that I would hear back. I never did. I'll never choose the nice way to handle this again, because that clearly did not produce the response I should have received. My inner Karen was forged that day, and from now on I will see the label of "Karen" as a much more complex matter and a way to compliment someone. Karens are made, not born. (Update: Yelp is only offering the ability to post images :-/)
