10 Best Adventures in Maui: Hikes, Snorkeling & More | Condé Nast Traveler

"Back in the days when this region was volcanically active, lava flowing into the ocean would cool on the outside, then drain out on the inside—resulting in long, cylindrical "tubes." Today, as you're driving along Maui's famous Road to Hana, you can channel your inner Indiana Jones—or perhaps Elsa Schneider—and descend a few flights of stairs to see this geological phenomenon for yourself. Educational signs throughout the cave point to the highlights of the lava formations, including contraction cracks, stalagmites and stalactites, puzzle pieces, overflows, and more." - Todd Plummer

I had no idea this place existed, and I was born and raised on the rock! We found it by accident while searching for some gardens located way down the dirt road that ended up being closed. I for one was excited to see this. Seeing and walking through an actual lava tube which once flowed with hot magma is fascinating to me! No reservations are required. You pay your $12.50 (2014 price), you're given a brief explanation of the tube, an LED flashlight, and you're on your self-guided way. THE TUBE: The entrance was super exciting. The pitch dark black hole adorned by ferns drops about 20 feet into the ground. You're immediately greeted with a temperature perfect 70% humidity atmosphere and is about 5-7 degrees cooler than the air outside. There's no smell inside. You will be dripped on by rain water seeping through the ground above. The ground is very uneven but there are handrails throughout to guide and help you. Anyone with difficulty walking should not do this. There are signs throughout that explain the different floors, walls and ceilings of the tube. Near the end of the tube is an intimidating low-hanging ceiling that requires you to duck down and walk under. Here is where you can see the stalactites up close. They're nothing like you'd see in other caves as they're small and look like melted Hershey Kisses. Soon after this is a vent that opens up to the land above, letting in sunshine as if you're going to heaven or something lol. The attraction ends a few feet later - it goes on for longer but this is where these folks' property line ends, so you have to go back. TI LEAF MAZE: I was hesitant to go through it but my friends wanted to. I had fun. It was longer than it looks. I have no idea how you begin to design something like that. Do it! What else are you going to do in Hana lol?! TIP: There are no creatures in the tube, except for worms that dangle from the ceiling, but we didn't see any. The worker also stated that she's never seen any during the 5 years she's been there. I'm a bit claustrophobic and had no problem in here. OVERALL: Very cool attraction to see.

Google
We loved this lava tube! It was so cool inside! It’s a self-guided tour inside, but they give you flashlights to use inside. There are so many colors inside - it’s beautiful! I’ve been in a lot of caves before, so they’re not “new and exciting” for me, but this one was truly enjoyable.

Google
What a great little adventure! Close the the state park and great for most ages.. I love the history and the go at your own pace. The staff was friendly and super accommodating

Google
This was one of the coolest places we visited while exploring the island on our trip to Maui! It was cool to learn about the lava, flow of chocolatey water that used to exist until the collapse that took place at one end, which stopped the flow of water. The ticket prices were quite reasonable, I believe $15.00 for adults. the staff was friendly, helpful and informative. the park area was well maintained and clean. It was really cool to read the signs along the way and learn about the history of the Hana Lava Tube and how it originated. (Be cautious while exploring, some of the pathway/steps can get a little steep. We had no issues, but small children or people with any balnce issues might find it challenging to navigate.) Again, We loved checking it out, Definitely worth a visit.

Google
Unique experience. About $15 a person in 2025. Worth it. Takes about 30 mins or so to see the whole cave. Really beautiful and fascinating if you read the plaques. I've never seen such beautiful starry night looking bacteria on cave ceilings before! Such a great experience. Easy walking/hiking. All ages should be able. You need to be able to take steps and walk with a flash light.

Sophie

Google
Super cool experience! It’s very interesting to see what the earth can do naturally and the signs explain everything to you really easily. I definitely learned something new! However, $15 seemed a bit high just to walk through a cool cave, and it’s privately owned so it’s not like the money is going to support Maui, which is why I took off one point. There are restrooms (ports potties) and be prepared to have a slight trouble parking. Had honestly an amazing time though and was amazed!

Google
Was so cool to explore the cave on our own. Very steep stairs to get in they supply you with flashlights and it has placards explaining the history of the cave. very neat to come see where lava once was on the island. Not something to do with small children due to the steep stairs. is 15 dollars a person to go into the cave

Google
It's an experience of another world. You can walk a volcanic cave like an explorer. The walk could take between 40 mins to one hour depending your speed and strenght. The kids love it. The walking surface is rocky and wet and is dark, they provide you a flashlight due to the pitch black darkness. An awesome adventure for a little price.

Yelp
Same Mile Marker as the Hana Farms, this was a real fun adventure. Bring cash $15 for entry. They lend you flashlights to take into the caves. It's a bit rocky so wear appropriate shoes. It's a quick 30 min in and out. Make sure to read the signs with information about the caves and look up and oay attention to your path. The ceiling of the caves have specks of gold. It is so pretty. I would highly recommend this on the drive to Hana. Tip: They have an EV charge if you need for a fee. Only one I know of but so convenient.

Yelp
We loved this stop!!! One of our favorites. $15/per person, they give you a flashlight. Really cool seeing the tubes left by lava flow. In the caves it is DARK with uneven walking and stairs, go at your own slower pace and you'll be alright. There is one spot where you need to duck to go under, and a good amount of stairs throughout. Great experience!
google avatar

Yelp
Highly recommended! The kiddos loved this spot while on the Road to Hana. It was fun for them to go through the cave and was a highlight and it was at a decent price! The outside area is pretty and there is a maze the kiddos can play at afterwards.

Yelp
I don't think this is a must if you're visiting Maui for the first time, but if you have time and are already in the area, then why not? It was my first time exploring an underground lava tube, so it was pretty cool. The experience was pretty short though. You don't really have to prepare in advance; your admission comes with all the necessary tools like flashlights. There are some plaques inside the cave letting you know what you're seeing. The cave is located on gorgeous grounds. The owners are very friendly and sweet.

Yelp
Immediately greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable employee. It was $31 for 2 people (cash only). Although a bit steep, I'd recommend for anyone interested in getting to experience a different side of Maui. It's about a 1/4 mile of a massive lava tube. Glancing over signs and walking fast took about 25/30 minutes out and back. BE WARNED, there is a spot towards the end where you need to completely duck to get past a very low ceiling. Overall a nice experience that doesn't involve climbing into any sketchy looking holes along the freeway without any signage.

Yelp
Quick tip: Tickets are $15 per person and they Only take cash. A powerful flashlight is provided to you on this (self-guided) tour through a roughly 1/4 mile long lava tube. It's a steep price in my opinion and we saw a few folks arrive and depart after talking to the lone cashier/gate-keeper. We took the chance and went ahead. The tube is roughly 15-20 feet in diameter and eventually could become pitch dark but-for your super bright flashlights. There are a good dozen placards with information about the tube. It's cool and damp and the ceiling is constantly releasing slow/occasional drips. Those of course produce small stalactites as well as small holes in the ground. The one nice thing about a $15 entry fee is that it's not crowded, Lol. The tube meanders on a gradual downhill slope so the walk back is a (mild) incline walk. The ground is largely loose lava/rocklettes too so tennies (not sandals/flip-flops) and a sweatshirt are probably ideal. Parking is easy in the adjacent private lot. There are two portapotties (no indoor/souvenir shop) but they are clean and there's a faucet outside with soap. All in all, an interesting stop on the way to Hana if $30/couple is within your budget. The environment of the tube is a little different than a cave and could be worth checking off your bucket list. Pro tip: there are numerous fruit stands along the way to Hana too and many have passion fruit (really hard to come by state-side). Most of these fruit stands are on the honor system, so be honorable, pay the $1 per two passion fruits. Not only is that an incredible bargain but you'll be helping the locals as they ALL shoulder the estimated 5-year-long rebuild of Lahaina.

Yelp
This lava tube was fun. I just wish it was lit versus us having to light the way with flashlights. I visited the lava tube on the big island the following day and that one was better only because your hands were free for photos because of the provided lighting. However this lava tube is pretty lengthy! I was impressed at how deep it went. Definitely something you have to do at least once if you're in Maui!
google avatar

Yelp
Spectacular rock formation on the road to Hana! It's only about a 30 minute detour, all self-led. Not as "wow" as waterfalls and beaches, but I really enjoyed learning about the history behind the lava tube and exploring the cave. $15 for entry (comes with a rented flashlight) per person. The ground is a bit uneven, so be mindful of your step. Throughout the tube, the owner has placed educational signs that are peppered with sarcastic jokes-- pretty entertaining while informative. It's also cool and quiet, with no biting bugs despite its humidity. Only a few other tourists were here during our visit-- we had opportunities to stand in the silent darkness and just appreciate our surroundings. Pleasantly meditative. NOTE: FR, the cleanest porta-potties I've probably ever seen. If you need to take a break anywhere, probably do it here LOL

Yelp
Pretty cool stop off the road to Hana. It's a lava tube... so basically like a lava cave. For $15pp entry you get a flash light to use and self tour the tube which should take roughly 30min if you read the various signs they have around. It's pretty difficult to take pictures because it is so dark but you can always have someone shine a flashlight and get a cool pic. It's not bad value imo and a nice change from the rest of the attractions.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool. It's easy to miss on the road to Hana, but worth visiting. If you've been to a cenote before, this place is not as grand. Nonetheless, it's still a very cool experience. For $15, you get to explore the cave at your own pace while borrowing a flashlight. It takes about 25 minutes to walk through everything. There are a few signs up to read more information on the geology and history. There's a maze apparently, but we missed that. The owners have a sense of humor, which is just as memorable as the dark underground tunnel's geology.

Yelp
Pretty cool self guided tour! Someone here, a year and 2 years ago also posted a pic of plant life in total darkness! How? Photosynthesis?

Yelp
This is a nice place to check out off of the Road to Hana. Admission is only $12.50. It does close relatively early, I believe 4:30, so plan accordingly. They have an ample parking lot and only take cash. If you don't have cash, don't worry. They have an ATM on site. When you get there, they will give you a flash light. If you are flying solo, like I was then they will give you a back-up flashlight. It would really suck if you were in the cave and not near anyone and you light goes out. I turned my light off for a few seconds and it was pitch dark. I could not see my hand in front of my face. As others have mentioned this lava tube is well maintained. The cave has a lot of history behind it and is explained on signs throughout the cave on your self guided tour. You can go through the tour at your own pace. There is a spot where you have to get low in order to pass. I spent about 30 minutes in there. You can try to get some photos with your phone using the flash, but it is still tough. You sometimes have to get creative with your flashlight to get a good shot. They also have a maze that you can go through there, but I did not feel like doing it. It did look nice though.

Yelp
Interesting experience! Definitely good. I'm not super thrilled with caves but my man is and we ventured together. To think they were created by lava is pretty amazing! It is a good stop and not something you get to do every day. Enjoy!

Yelp
I've lived on the island for two years and I frequently visit Hana but I've never checked out the lava tubes until this year and I'm glad I did ! It's super rad and the workers are so kind, informative, and sweet. They provide you with a flash light and it's a neat experience to walk through the self guided tour! Worth the money and also it's pretty epic to turn off the flash lights and stand in darkness and stillness.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
This cave was pretty awesome! If you have the chance, definitely check it out. The people working here definitely have a good sense of humor :)

Yelp
We stopped by while taking our drive on the Hana Highway and were pleasantly surprised. I hadn't done any research and none of knew what to expect. Other lava tubes have just been something to walk through, but this was a nicely maintained attraction. There's plenty of parking, then at the information hut, you pay an entry fee and are provided with a flashlight. The whole walk down and back underground takes about 30 minutes. There are handrails all throughout, and information plagues to tell you about what's around you while you're walking through the lava tube. The tour is self guided and was a very cool experience. There's also a maze near the parking lot, but we did not partake. It's nice it's not on all of the main Road to Hana brochures as that led to the caves to be not as crowded. Just make sure to watch your step!
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
This was one of our favorite stops on the road to Hana! This lava tube is huge, and it's so much fun walking through and learning about ti through the well-maintained signage in the tube. At the end of the tube there's a little off-shoot where, if nobody else is there, it's a great place to turn off your flashlights and experience how dark it really gets in these things. Awesome educational stop, would definitely recommend! Also, don't forget the maze outside the tube! I think it's meant for small children, but my husband and I enjoyed it as well!

Niamh G.

Yelp
This is such a cool and fun mini adventure. Inexpensive ($15) self guided tour. The staff are so friendly and it's pretty mind blowing to see plants growing in dark caves. The walls glitter like gold. What's not to love!
google avatar

Kristin T.

Yelp
If you've never been to a lava tube, I highly recommend stopping by on the Road to Hana or on your way back from Hana. It's a nice little stop and definitely a site to be seen. I'd never been in a lava tube before and it was amazing to see! It was so dark inside, I'm glad they provided flashlights as the one we brought did nothing in the pure darkness. It was a small fee to enter as it is privately owned but definitely worth while. It takes about 30 minutes to see the whole tube, depending how long you stay inside reading. At one point my husband and myself were the last ones in the tube and it was a bit scary knowing there wasn't anyone else behind us. At one point we turned off our flashlights to see just how dark it was and you literally can not see anything. There are little signs explaining the different areas in the tube with some educational signs. Definitely check it out if you have the time or want a quick stop.

Yelp
A MUST DO ON ROAD TO HANA!!!!! We visited this place yesterday on our road trip adventure to Hana and can't recommend enough. This is a gem and a great lesson for kids on how fascinating nature's creation is. Both of my kids (age 12 & 9) were so intrigued and enjoyed the tour. Walking with light torch in the dark added a bonus on their adventure. The place is very well maintained with signs and boards to guide us through what we were looking at etc. The person at the check in counter, John, was super nice and friendly! We had a situation come up and he went out of his way to help us out. Thanks so so much, John!! Don't miss this on your next adventure on road to Hana!!
google avatar

Dawn Dan Q.

Yelp
Best time at the Lava Tubes, John was super helpful and answered all our Many questions. We had a blast!!
google avatar

Sally P.

Yelp
I would have to say this is a MUST DO! It was really quite the experience. The walk is about a 30 minute round trip and if you have claustrophobic, I would still strongly encourage you to try it! Flashlight will be provided and there is a small minimal coverage fee. Pros 1. An adventure to go underground that comes from a solidified lava flow that use to be occupied by flowing molten lava. 2. The paths are paved so it makes it easier to navigate 3. Feels very cool down there, a bit musky but nothing too bad 4. A flashlight will be provided Cons 1. Due to its darkness, it's hard to get food quality photo (but this com has nothing to do with the lava tube itself)

Monique D.

Yelp
The rating is for the value. $15 each for four of us to walk the 1/2 mile of lava tube. I wanted to love it, I did. But it was cave walls. Dripping ceiling. Moderate temperature. At least give me something scary or some scientific video recreation of how the tube was formed for my $15. Someone popping out of a crevice to scare us - SOMETHING more than a dark cave.

Veronica R.

Yelp
Great place, we went in with my two daughters and it was an incredible adventure. Will recommend to try it when in Maui
google avatar

Benjamin P.

Yelp
Can't believe that there was only one car here when we pulled up and they were leaving. Tons of cars just drove right on by. It's like a 10 minute detour. Why you wouldn't check it out is beyond me. The entrance is literally a hole on the other side of the road from the parking area. It opens up more once you're inside. Very dark, and the iPhone light barely seemed to help. Watch your noggins! I hit mine a couple times. It loops around and if you go all the way, you can climb out the other side just a bit further down the road you entered on. There is a stream over there too that sounds like a little waterfall.
google avatar

Mike V.

Yelp
Nothing like sneaking around a cool pitch black cave on a hot humid day. Although it doesnt compare to turning off your flashlights and lying in wait for your friends. (dont forget to video tape them screaming like little girls and post it to youtube.)
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Visit on 5/25/17: Stopped here on the Road to Hana. Beautiful stalagmites and stalactites that resemble chocolate. Signs along the way walk you through the formation of the lava tube. It's nice and cool in the cave, and while you won't need a jacket or rain jacket for the temperature, I'm glad that I happened to bring mine in because droplets from the ceiling will splash onto you. Don't worry, it won't be enough to get you wet. Enjoy something out of the ordinary on the way to or from Hana: underground and containing nothing that wants to bite you.
google avatar

Angela A.

Yelp
I'm a frequent flyer to Hawaii and yet I had never been to this lava tube. I've been to Thurston's on the big isle MANY times and guess what guys... The Maui Cave has it beat by MILES. First and foremost I didn't come across any large tour groups here, it was quiet and really reminds me of old Hawaii. The owner of the property is very knowledgeable and gives you so much info on the history of the tube. The tube itself is very dark, but you are handed powerful lightweight flashlights that take care of the darkness for you. It was easy to take pictures in there with flash.
google avatar

George R.

Yelp
This place was awesome, you get to go in the caves by yourself and can stay as long as you want. They also have a nice fun maze that you can use free of charge. The property has multiple fruit trees and youre welcome to look around and get as much fruit as you like(for a small fee, starfruits were 5/1$).The employee was super chill and welcoming. I paid 15 per person.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
I'm so impressed what Chuck has done with the lava tubes! Funny and informative signs lead you through a safe yet exciting 35-min self-guided tour. Love the pride and joy that the owner glows. He has also done a lot of environmental restoration work as part of transforming the tube into a tourist attraction.

Emily R.

Yelp
Great experience for the kids! Each child got their own flashlight. The price is not steep to keep them entertained!

C T.

Yelp
This was my first cave and I had brought my husband and the kids. Very easy but also very fun to check out! Worth the trip down Hana :)
google avatar

Sam N.

Yelp
The Hana Lava Tubes are just after Mile Marker 31. Here is our experience. When you arrive to the parking lot, you will enter the welcome center. There you will pay the fee, get instructions, and receive flashlights. From the time we entered the cave, explored, and exited, it only took about 45 minutes. You really don't need to spend more than an hour here. I don't think the fee is worth what you get, but that is just me. There was no WOW factor here. I personally would pass on this place until the fee is reduced significantly or removed. TIPS: 1. There is a restroom available. 2. There are drinks for sale in the Welcome Center
google avatar

Nathan L.

Yelp
We stopped here on the road to Hana because it sounded really cool. It was $25 for me and my wife to go check out the lava tube. We got some flash lights that were very bright. Down we went... We love nature and consider ourselves outdoor enthusiasts. That being said we were not all that impressed with the lava tube. After the first 10 minutes I was already done. I think you need to be really in to geology to appreciate what the lava tube has to offer. Did we regret visiting the lava tube? Not really but we weren't all that into it. If you have kids that really geek out on science or you are a geology nerd definitely check this place out. Otherwise, more waterfalls and beaches await!
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this trip into a Hawaiian cave (lava tube). The woman working here was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The cave tour itself was interesting, walking with a flashlight and exploring in the dark. 2 adults for $24.90. The stop was definitely worthwhile. This was money well spent as I do not imagine I will ever walk through another lava tube in my life, unless I bring guests here. Don't worry if you are claustrophobic because it is like an indoor stadium down there. There aren't any tight spaces. Further, there is nothing to "jump out and get ya" since only a few simple life forms can even exist in such an environment.
google avatar

Nikki M.

Yelp
When you're hot on the road to Hana visit the dude who happens to have a lava tube running through his property. They've got funny signs and it only takes a good 30 minutes to walk through. Plus it's nice and cool in there. It's also fun to see how very dark it gets when you turn off the flashlights! For a small fee, you get entry and flashlights. Hardhats are available upon request.
google avatar

Benny H.

Yelp
Fallout shelter in Maui? It was here. Pretty awesome and scary. They give you flashlights and make sure you watch where you're walking as you could end up on the floor with a gash. It's that dark. Still, it's an amazing experience which is something I've never done. Still, I was freaked to be underground for too long. There is always a decent sized maze on the way out which is worth your time. Almost like a hedgemaze, but with huge colorful plants. (Not sure what they might be called) It's a cool experience, no doubt about it.
google avatar

Yelp
Um first, plus I added this entry. This is a really cool attraction for all you "drive to hana" morons b/c you can do it in about an hour- no need to break a sweat or anything. The cave is operated by an entrepreneurial guy who will give you a piece of his mind along with a flashlight- when we were there he unloaded on Obama's stimulus plan- claiming it would cause rampant inflation. How awesome is that? Entry is like, twelve bucks. Check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
This place was so cool! And the attendant was so amazing and helpful! I would highly recommend this place to anyone! So glad we got to go!

Yelp
Really cool to walk through, but wet and can be slippery. Stairs required but theres railing. They also provide flashlights and offer kama'aina discount.

Yelp
Definitely worth the stop if you're driving the road to Hana. You have to pay for admission, but it's worth it. They'll give you a flashlight, which you'll use as you make your way through the dark tunnels. Underground, they have a lot of informational signs which describe how the tube was formed and about the different rock formations inside. There's lots of cool stalactites and stalagmites, but the most awesome part is that some of the rocks resemble dripping chocolate. We spent about 40 min walking through the tunnel.

Yelp
We were blessed to get to visit this place on the 1 day they reopened the road to Hana & just made it to Hana Lava Tube before it closed. Great experience for both adults & kids of all ages! We just so happen to be the only visitors at that time so it was as if we had a private tour all to ourselves. Chuck helped us upon arriving & provided such amazing service!! You have to check this place out if you head out on the road to Hana! Mahalo Chuck!!

Yelp
Every thing that i had expected. Nice diversion. Interesting and well maintained. Good thing for all ages to see, most be able to walk and climb steps. Good bargain.

Yelp
This attraction is difficult to rate, because there are some nice things about it and some not-so-nice things... so I'll just break it down: Pros: 1) Right on the Hana Highway. We weren't planning on coming here, but stumbled upon it by accident... I was actually interested in seeing the Heiau at the nearby gardens, but for some crazy reason that place is closed on weekends... Instead, we saw the sign for the lava tube and, even though I have been in some before (on the Big Island and a other locations), I love caves and caving and volcanoes (and I am a teacher who just started a unit on volcanoes with my students), so we had to give a go. 2) The lava tube is fairly large, not too crowded (unlike the ones at Volcano National Park on the big island), and somewhat interesting -- there are a few formations (numerous brown stalactites and a few stalagmites) 3) There are numerous informational signs inside, which teach you about the formations, the geological forces causing the shapes of the interior, and the history of the cave (both geological and more recent, as fallout shelter and as repository for cow bones from local ranching/slaughtering.) The cave is not lit, but includes a bright flashlight -- I prefer it this way, I think. Cons: 1) The price is a bit steep. I mean, for comparison the cost of Haleakala is $10 PER CAR; here it's $12.50 per person (there were only 2 of us; if I had kids to pay for as well, I don't think I would have done it) 2) There is a definite creepy factor here. Maybe it was seeing the blatant uber-conservative Teabertarian signs prominently displayed in front of the property, unavoidable from parking lot and purchase area ("End the Fed!"; "Get rid of the IRS!", stuff like that); maybe it was the story of the thousands of bones of slaughtered cows that used to fill the cave; maybe it was the sign inside that said something like "This used to be a fallout shelter, but the government doesn't seem to worry about that anymore. It couldn't support more than 15 people for 6 months anyway, so the owner has made sure to stock enough supplies for himself and 14 women." (joke? Hard to tell with this guy...)

Yelp
This attraction was interesting as most everyone said it's $12.50 P/P and any children less than 5 are no charge. If you have walking, or accessibility issues this isn't the place for you. Lots of steps, and it's uneven. So stay away if these are a concern for you. They have high powered LED flash lights so vision isn't an issue. One thing worth noting is these flashlights have a blinking function to them. I am an epileptic, and cannot be around lights that flash. Children like to play with this function, but when my husband politely told them to stop they will. If you are epileptic and extremely sensitive to flashing lights this tour may not be for you. Overall, this tour is informative with great posted plaques. If you take your time and read everything and enjoy the experience it's worth every penny! Aloha!

Yelp
This is truly a unique experience and fun for the whole family. It's about an hour round trip down into one of many lava tubes (formed by lava flowing underground and boring a hole from the volcano to the beach). The tour is self-directed with extremely informative and sometimes funny signs. The front office gives you a flashlight. And unlike many things on Maui, it's inexpensive - only $12 per person. You can see in person what different kinds of lava looks like and why, and get a sense of just how powerful volcanoes and their 2000 degree F lava flows are from the size of the lava tube. For me it engenders respect and wonder for the Hawaiian islands and their creation.

Yelp
I loved going here for a change of pace! I was a little worried about the damp, dark space but I didn't have any problems. We paid and the woman handed us two flashlights and sent us on our way. I was thinking someone was coming with us! I joked and asked her if she would come find us if we didn't return and she said she would. Actually, this was much better. It was fun to explore with just my husband. There were a few people in the tube, but we only saw them for a minute or two. The actual tube (cave?) is very dark and very damp. I didn't find it slippery. As mentioned in the other reviews, there are descriptions and information throughout. I thought it was interesting and I liked the idea of actually being in a lava tube. I thought it was worth the stop.
