"Back in the days when this region was volcanically active, lava flowing into the ocean would cool on the outside, then drain out on the inside—resulting in long, cylindrical "tubes." Today, as you're driving along Maui's famous Road to Hana, you can channel your inner Indiana Jones—or perhaps Elsa Schneider—and descend a few flights of stairs to see this geological phenomenon for yourself. Educational signs throughout the cave point to the highlights of the lava formations, including contraction cracks, stalagmites and stalactites, puzzle pieces, overflows, and more." - Todd Plummer

Unique experience. About $15 a person in 2025. Worth it. Takes about 30 mins or so to see the whole cave. Really beautiful and fascinating if you read the plaques. I've never seen such beautiful starry night looking bacteria on cave ceilings before! Such a great experience. Easy walking/hiking. All ages should be able. You need to be able to take steps and walk with a flash light.

Was so cool to explore the cave on our own. Very steep stairs to get in they supply you with flashlights and it has placards explaining the history of the cave. very neat to come see where lava once was on the island. Not something to do with small children due to the steep stairs. is 15 dollars a person to go into the cave

Took about 30 mins round trip. They supply flashlights and it was $31 for two people. Amazing experience. Be cautious if you are taller(6’3 +) as they were some low hanging spots that I banged my head on.

If you are visiting this area and do not visit this place, it will be an extremely unfortunate event. The owner (apologies, I missed his name) is a great guy and if you visit this place, you will find that he is a great guy converse with. This is an absolutely amazing spot and very well maintained with least possible modifications.

Fantastic experience! The natural rock formations inside were truly breathtaking, and walking through the tube felt like stepping into another world. The self-guided tour was well-organized, with informative signs that helped me understand the geological history of the lava tube. The place was well-maintained, making it easy to explore safely. A special thank you to John for his warm hospitality! If you’re in Hana, this is definitely a must-visit destination!

Worth the stop! We had meant to stop here last trip, but missed the turn. So many stops on the road to Hana, can’t see them all in one trip. However, this is worth your time if you haven’t ever been. It will take about 40 minutes round trip, and costs 15$ a person. A little steep, but you’re in Hawaii, and a 15$ experience is a rarity. Super dark, with information along the path, you can see lava lines and experience cool bugs that only exist here in this lava tube! Once you get to the end and turn off your flashlight (provided on site, don’t worry!) you can experience total darkness. One more great, unique site to see on the road to Hana! A good stop,

It’s a tubular cave made from a lava flow. Lots of signage to help visitors understand what they’re seeing. Also: nice and cool ambient temperature down there.

This was a great stop in Maui, very cool to see such a large lava tube. No need to worry if you are claustrophobic or not very fit. There are some stairs but it’s mostly flat and has hand rails along most of the route. Also enjoyed the flower maze outside, I imagine that would be a hit with children. Cash only
