Hana no Mai Edo Tokyo Museum

Cool restaurant bar vibe. All about sumo and has a museum feel. The food is good and fresh and it’s in a neighbourhood area you can walk around. Get a few things and share with the table I’d say is the best way to go. It was a bit difficult splitting the bill and the end but I’m sure if you’re Japanese is better than mine you’ll be fine.

An excellent place to dine. We paid a visit during our vacation. It’s close to Tokyo National Museum. It’s a themed restaurant based on sumo wrestling and preparations are in line with what sumo wrestlers consume with high protein and low carb combo. We enjoyed our food! We highly recommend

Hana no Mae offers a truly unique dining experience! The sumo ring centerpiece, adorned with sumo photos and stories, creates a fun atmosphere. Their signature "Hotpot Chanko Nabe," a dish favored by sumo wrestlers, features a delicious broth and incredibly tender chicken. The generous side dishes, including fresh sashimi and crispy karaage, are a delight. The only minor drawback is the occasional noise from the train tracks located directly above, which can be a little disruptive during passing trains. Overall, a memorable and tasty visit!

We had dinner here on April 3, 2025. Hana no mai Edo Tokyo Museum is located near the JR Ryogoku station, underneath the railway track. The entrance door for the group and individual are different. Individual customers enter from the front door, while the groups enter from the side door. We ordered “Dori Chanko Nabe Set.” It’s delicious and satisfying. In the chanko nabe they put chicken meat, green veggies, eringgi mushrooms, carrots, and soup. Along with it, there are one “kara-age”, one deep fried fish, two pieces of grilled chicken meat, a small set of sashimi, veggies, tofu, meat ball, tofu ball, a bowl of rice, and udon. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a simple sumo stable. I wonder if they could perform a sumo wrestling while having dinner. They played Japanese old songs while we were eating.

Limited number of sashimi and sushi, steak was just average not very tender, yakitori also average. Chanko nabe 4 star. Grilled mackerel 4 star. Fresh oysters 4 star. Tried the horse meat sashimi 3.5 star. Over-all, it's a 3.5 star pub where you can unwind with friends over a bottle of sake and beer.

I'm a little late to posting this review as I visited back in May 2019. However, it was a great experience, it was somewhat touristy, but worth the experience and the food was great too. The menu is based on what a sumo wrestler would traditionally eat, you add the ingredients into a broth and cook yourself which was well worth the experience. I would recommend eating here if you're looking for a unique lunch experience.

Inexpensive and huge dinning place to cater sumo fan. Interesting interior design with scale down sumo ring , ordered fish special of the day- Fish head - not for usual tourist 😁, but it was very tasty. A free self service coffee is available too.

Restaurant was located under the railway line so there was a bit of noise whenever the train crossed. Ordering was easy and made through a QR code on a mobile device, however no English. Food was delivered by robot which was fun. Personally felt the food was a little bland, but perhaps we should have ordered what looked like hot pot rather than the more izakaya style eating. Portions were also pretty small. The steak was definitely the highlight of the meal as we ordered two servings.
