The Hanalei Surfboard House is truly a hidden gem! Simon is a wonderful host, has done an incredible job creating this very special spot and is truly committed to ensuring you have everything you need for your stay. We’ve been here multiple times and each visit has been an exceptional experience. There’s really nothing else like it. The location couldn't be more perfect—just steps across the street from the beach and a short, easy walk to shops, outdoor rental spots, and some outstanding local restaurants. Each suite is thoughtfully designed and comes equipped with everything you need for a truly perfect vacation. From beach gear to cozy furnishings and unique island décor, it feels like our own private slice of paradise. The attention to detail and comfort is unmatched, and the laid-back yet welcoming vibe makes it hard to leave. If you're headed to Hanalei and want a relaxing, unforgettable stay in the heart of Hanalei beauty and local culture, this is the place. It’s a one-of-a-kind spot and we will return.

If you told me I had to spend the rest of my life in one place where I have stayed anywhere in the world, I would choose Hanalei Surfboard House (HSH) without hesitation. It is a slice of heaven on earth. Let me count the ways: It is one block from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It is in an unpretentious surfer town with more residents than tourists, and yet there are a number of top-notch restaurants. There is great hiking nearby, with trails for hikers of all experience levels. And there are beautiful, empty beaches tucked away all along the north shore of Kauai. HSH itself offers private, comfortable bungalows with tastefully quirky furnishings both indoors and outdoors. The owner, Simon Potts, goes out of his way to make his guests feel at home, even to the point of helping us with reservations at popular eating places. This was our second stay at HSH, and the more we get to know it, the more we come to appreciate its hidden treasures, its privacy, and its perfect blend of casualness and comfort. The above was written after our second stay at HSH, in January 2025. Here's what I wrote after our stay in January 2024: The Hanalei Surfboard House is a delightful, laidback retreat a block from the beach, and Simon Potts, the owner, is a delightful and gracious host. Our bungalow was roomy, private, and comfortable, and the furnishings were whimsical and fascinating, Hanalei Bay has one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaii, and the town is relatively small and quiet and feels like there are more locals than tourists, and yet there are several first-rate restaurants. If you are looking for the real Hawaii, off the beaten track, with a perfect beach framed by magical mountains, Hanalei is the place for you, and the Hanalei Surfboard House is the place to stay.

I can’t say enough great things about Simon, The Surfboard House, or beautiful Hanalei Bay. We began our Hawai’i trip here before heading to Maui, and it was by far our favorite place that we stayed (even over our next 5 ⭐️ resort!). It was the perfect location for us to walk into Hanalei without driving (about a 10 minute walk). Highly recommend the farmers market there on Saturdays, Wishing Well Shaved Ice, Nourish Hanalei, and Holey Grail Donuts. Compared to nearby Princeville, Hanalei feels WAY more local and authentic instead of like a Disney resort. It was the perfect location to jumpstart our exploration of the Napali Coast, as well. Simon was so welcoming and kind. The Elvis room truly had everything we needed for our stay. It was so nice to have a fridge, beach towels, and beach chairs for our days at the local beaches (go to Anini Beach!!). Next time we are in Kauai, I will definitely be staying with Simon. I honestly wouldn’t even spend time looking any further. Our best stay of our whole two week Hawai’i trip! 🤙🏼 XO, Katelyn and Toryn

This was our favorite place of our whole trip in Maui and Kauai! We felt right at home staying in the beautiful Elvis room and it had everything we needed. We could walk a couple minutes and be right at the beach which had great surfing and the best views. Simon is the best host, giving you local tips, great restaurants to eat at and just overall an amazing person! We can’t wait to come back in the future. :) Thanks Simon!

I visited back in April 2023 with a friend of mine. The owner, Simon, is a really chill guy who helped us get settled in quickly and pointed out some of the local spots that we should visit. It's within walking distance of the beach as well as the nearby village. Place is very well maintained, the bed is really comfy, and they have their own washer and dryer outside in the back (although, i believe you'd have to share it with the adjacent suite but it's never been an issue for us). They have their own beach and shower towels, should you need them. Should I ever find myself returning to Kauai, I'll definitely be coming back here.

The Surfboard House was the highlight of our trip to Hawaii! The location is absolutely perfect, just a block away from beautiful Hanalei Bay and mere minutes from some fantastic meals and beaches. The Elvis room was comfortable and relaxing and had everything we needed. Definitely stay here if you are coming to the North Shore of Kauai'!

During our stay at the Elvis Suite, we experienced an exceptional time. Every aspect of Simon's residence exudes perfection, notably the exceptionally comfortable bed. Having the beach amenities was an added plus as well, with Pine Trees beach so close by. And we absolutely loved sitting outside listening to the ocean waves and being greeted by Simon's cat, Boca

The Hanalei Surfboard House was such a delight during my stay. Simon is incredibly welcoming and helpful. The space is wonderfully decorated with unique, eclectic pieces; and the house is just a 2 min walk to the ocean / 10 min into town. Can't be beat! Highly highly recommend to anyone staying in Hanalei. Thanks for all, Simon!

Yelp
Look no Further! Do yourselves a favor and go to the Hanalei Surfboard House. If you're looking for the relaxing beach vacation this is the place on Kauai. Stay here. Your marriage will thank you. This was our second trip in two months and we're already planning a trip back. Background: We've been wanting to check out Kauai. In the past three months we've stayed at the megas at Poipu, local places at Kapaa and by far the very best is Hanalei Bay. We looked at the megas and upon exploring via car we found the Hanalei Surfboard House (https://hanaleisurfboardhouse.com). We meant to do all of the hiking, snorkeling and events we did from the other two visits and somehow we just relaxed, swam in the Ocean and walked in the little town and went to local beaches. Hanalei Surfboard House: We stayed in the "Love Shack"! Wow how fun and what a charge! The outdoor shower is amazing although there is a full bathroom. The private patio is fabulous. I can't say enough about this great find. Simon the owner is a record producer, and the memorabilia in the Love Shack bungalow is worthy of a museum. The bedding was great and the bed fabulous. There is a really cool grounds kitty that may follow you to the beach. If you're not into cats she somehow knows as my husband is allergic to cats and she never approached him. We did stock up at Safeway and also we walked back into town with flashlights and tried some little restaurant of which there were many. We walked on the beaches and had morning coffee on the beach (which is across the street literally). We always felt perfectly safe and didn't feel like we were pushing the locals out. When you stay here walk down the beach to the pier as a fun jaunt.

Yelp
We feel fortunate to have found an ideal haven - the Hanalei Surfboard House in one of the great places in the Islands. Our suite had everything we needed for work and play at our fingertips, from air conditioner and a ceiling fan to lovely toiletries and abundant towels to a kitchenette. Having a full size washer/dryer in the back was useful. To have the lovely beach a block away from our doorstep was heaven. Simon provided boogie boards, beach chairs and towels, suntan lotion, beach bags - he thought of everything. It was great to be able to walk from our door to the beach in 3 minutes with its soft sand and lengthy coastline. Simon advised us where to eat and hike and was a delight to get to know. Hanalei Surfboard House is special - we wouldn't think of staying anywhere else in Hanalei. This is a wonderful place to rest and enjoy the beauty of Kauai.

Yelp
I've stayed 5 times (maybe 6) at the Hanalei Surfboard House. Simon is great, he has thought of everything. fully stocked with everything you may need. 30 sec walk and you're at the water. house is so clean, and decorated so cute. Each stay I stayed in the elvis suite, the bed was a tempur-pedic, I know this because i Looked and bought the same bed. I cannot say enough good things about HSH. If you send me an email, I'll send you a kauai list of the best things to do!

Yelp
Simon is the best and has the sweetest place to stay on the island! He is so personable, kind and knowledgeable. Thanks to Teresa also for giving us recs on things to do. We felt so at home and welcomed here. The beach is only a block away, super convenient. The room and beautiful gardens are so well maintained. It's so close to the heart of Hanalei. We will definitely be staying there again. Thank you Simon and Teresa, we genuinely had the best time!

Yelp
Better than we could have ever imagined. So many thoughtful touches throughout the entire property - kudos to Simon, who really has done such a wonderful job, and is a wonderful person himself!! The location cannot be beat from its proximity to the beach (mere minutes) and town. We stayed in the Elvis suite and it was spacious, had perhaps the most comfortable bed ever, and was lovingly decorated with memorabilia and photos, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The suite also came with so many amenities, we sadly did not have enough time to even enjoy all of them! But from cooking to laundry to grilling, it was all there. Oh also, have to mention that the shower pressure was the best of all time. It made our trip all that much better, and we mean it when we say we cannot wait to return. Thank you Simon for everything!

Yelp
We stayed in the Love Shack in early July for part of our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived at the gorgeous property, we could tell we were in for a treat. Arrival was made easy and the stay was fully equipped with everything we would need for a fun beach & adventure week in Hanalei. From beach bags to boogie boards, the place was stocked with pretty much every item one might want for a fun time at the beach and we took full advantage when we went to the beach which was just a super short walk across the street. The space had a very private outdoor area for just us and even had a private outdoor shower which was awesome. The location was super close to town - very walkable to go to restaurants and shops. It was also close to the Waipa Park and Ride that we booked to go to Hā'ena State park for our hike on the Kalalau Trail (TIP: this is a fantastic hike and you must reserve a shuttle or parking way in advance!). We were lucky enough to meet the owner, Simon, who was wonderful. He showed us everything to get us settled in and we chatted with him a few times - awesome guy all around. The space was clean, comfy, and the decor was absolutely awesome - all done by Simon himself. Do yourself a favor: ask Simon about staying in the Loveshack! You won't regret it.

Yelp
We are so happy that we found Simon's place. It is absolute perfection. We stayed in both the Elvis Suite and the Love Shack and loved both of them. It's literally a minute's walk from the beach and Simon provides you with boogie boards, chairs and an umbrella. The arrival was easy and the stay had everything we could have needed. Both the Elvis Suite and the Love Shack were very private and tranquil, and the water pressure was phenomenal. The space was clean, comfortable, and relaxing. We were lucky enough to meet Simon and he is lovely. Since we've gotten back, we've told all of our friends and family to stay there. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
We have been traveling to the Northshore of Kauai for both business and pleasure for the past 31 years, and have stayed at both the Love Shack and Cowgirl Suites at the Surfboard House. Here are a few general comments: First - Simon, the owner, is on the ball and always fast to respond with booking inquires. He is extremely easy to work with when making reservations. Second - Unless your expectations are out of kilter with island life, each suite has everything you need. Coffee maker, blender, kitchen utensils, food prep items and sharp knives, toaster over, cooler for the beach, chairs for the beach, and boogey boards. Simon even keeps beer mugs in the freezer! If you want to watch a movie, satellite tv and Wi-Fi both work great. Third - the showers have enough water pressure to clean an elephant and they are all outfitted with soaps and shampoos made on the island. I cant remember if all the suites have an outdoor shower but if one does, there is no need to take one inside, the outdoor ones are private and very refreshing. Forth - the beds are high quality, and extremely comfortable. The layout and décor of each suite is unique and very well done. Local Art and memorabilia from Simon's past occupation are all over the place and create a very cool vibe. Fifth - the grounds are immaculate. My wife and I are both master gardeners and you could spend hours each day appreciating the diversity of plants on the grounds. They are all very well maintained and manicured. Sixth - if you are staying in Hanalei, Weke Rd (pronounced Vekheh) is where you want to be. The house is in very close proximity to both parking lots known as "Grandpas" on Hanalei Bay. Both lots fill up during the day, but you can just walk from the house and be at one of the best spots on the bay. It is also an easy walk into town. Seven - just a suggestion, smile and be kind to everyone you see. Unfortunately, not everyone has the spirit of Aloha. Most do, but for those that don't, maybe if someone sees it in you, it will rub off on them. I could go on but I need to get back to work. I hope this review is helpful. Mahalo!

Yelp
We stayed in the Love Shack and had the absolute best time! The location was perfect, a block from the beach and close to restaurants and shops. The shuttle to Napali Coast State Wilderness Park was a close walk away as well. Simon was very hospitable and provided everything we needed - beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas, and even beach totes. The property was beautiful and the decor at the Love Shack was eclectic and unique. We had a great time and would love to come back!

Hannah B.

Yelp
For our second stay at the Hanalei house we absolutely love everything about it! We have stayed in both rooms and are always blown away by all the little touches. Simon is very hospitable and has everything you need for a great beach stay. If you are a couple looking for a great place to vacay. This is the place for you! Quiet, tranquil, easy beach access, and the sweetest town of Hanalei. I highly recommend going and watching the sunrise on the beach. It is phenomenal!

Yelp
It's the perfect spot in Hanalei...everything about it from fun decor to incredible amenities to SUPER private. And Simon, the host-makes sure you experience all of the above. He's attentive, he's created a super unique environment and he makes sure of your privacy. Without question we'll be back. Thank you Simon!

Yelp
This place is truly a gem. Simon is a wonderful Host and has thought of everything. Really peaceful every here, walk to the water in minutes. We stayed in the cowgirl suite and it was perfect. We loved it here and will most certainly be back. If you are wondering where to stay, let us tell you, Hanalei Surfboard house is the place!

Yelp
My husband and I were fortunate to stay in the Elvis suite at the Hanalei Surfboard House in Hanalei. The location couldn't have been better, easy walk to the beach, which was great for surfing, body boarding and just swimming. Suite was great for a couple--clean, quiet and private. Simon is warm and welcoming. Hands down, best stay in Kauai!

Yelp
Perfect! So close to beach and so authentic. On site bbq, boogie boards and beach equipment to help enjoy hanalei bay, which is a 3 minute walk away.

Tracy G.

Yelp
Thank you Simon! We had a great time at the Surfboard House. The room was great (roomy, clean and well stocked). We loved the backyard BBQ, and were able to use it for dinners (it's brand new). The hammock was an unexpected bonus as well. The bed was comfortable, and we felt safe leaving the windows open at night for a cross breeze. The ceiling fan was an extra bonus. The walk to the beach is about a block, and there is a lifeguard tower right there. Hanalei seems like a very family oriented, kid friendly town. Lots of kiddos everywhere, but not to the point that they are noisy or difficult. We would definitely go back. Simon is a wealth of information about the area, and a kind and welcoming host. The only "difficulty" we had was that the town was very busy due to Spring Break. There were waits for eating establishments in all eateries. If you are there to relax, the waiting was not a problem at all.

K L.

Yelp
I stayed at Hanalei Surfboard House in January and was lucky enough to find the Love Shack available. The Surfboard House is really special, welcoming and perfectly appointed. There's a lovely central garden within the property and the location can't be beat - just cross the street to walk onto the beach. The Love Shack is a fully stocked, comfortable and spacious studio apartment and equipped with a solid sound system. Simon is a thoughtful, kind and accessible host. I hope to be back!

Lauren A.

Yelp
The Surfboard House is the perfect escape in Hanalei! Simon is a tremendous host, and his space is quiet and serene, with beautiful gardens and all of the amenities you could want. A quick walk to the beach, and only 10-15 minute walk into town. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at the Hanalei Surfboard House in May. Four luxurious days of heaven on earth! Simon Potts is the ultimate host! He was so welcoming and kind....on top of that, he's just a really cool dude with an incredible story. We stayed in the Elvis Suite, which suited us perfectly since we're Las Vegans. The decor of the suite was 100% on point, retro, fun and Hawaiian! You can tell Simon put his heart and soul into building out the Hanalei Surfboard House with all the unique decor (vintage surfboards!!), succulents, bowling balls, garden sculptures and funky tchotchkes. The house is a short 4 minute walk to the amazing Hanalei Bay with perfect views of Puff the Magic Dragon mountain! We also walked into town a few times - only 10-15 minutes from the house - for delicious shaved ice & breakfast/coffee from Hanalei Bread Company. We're already planning our trip back! If you like adventure, fun and living life outside of the norm....stay at the Hanalei Surfboard House and make sure to tell Simon we sent you!

Yelp
We had an amazing five days at Hanalei Surfboard House. Kauai is magical and this was the best place to stay to enjoy everything it had to offer. Hanalei itself is a great town with lots of good food and shops to enjoy, so the easy walk from Surfboard House was perfect. The beach at Hanalei Bay is fantastic - so many surfers to watch, beautiful sunsets, and easy to hang out for the day. We really liked the local flavor that came with staying at the house among other private homes. We also appreciated the awesome and very original decor in the Cowgirl Suite, it was clear Simon put a lot of thought into it. We were very comfortable in our suite - it was super private and well-appointed with everything we needed for rest and relaxation, including kitchen supplies and beach chairs. Great music collection too! We were sad to miss Simon during his travels as we heard he's a really interesting guy, but he made sure we were well taken care of in his absence! A good friend recommended the Surfboard House to us, and we will certainly keep passing it along to friends and family - anyone would be lucky to stay here!

Yelp
We loved our stay in the Love Shack. I almost hoped it would rain and storm so we'd have an excuse to just stay in. However, the location was a huge part of our excitement to stay there -- you can walk to town, walk to the beach, and it's just a short drive to the most amazing hike I ever took at Hanakapi'ai Falls. Our hosts were amazing and covered every detail -- we didn't need to worry about bringing beach towels (beach is a one-minute walk away!), or a hair dryer, or even shampoo/soap (some of my favorite details of the stay!). The space was comfortable and delightful and totally set for your Netflix/viewing needs. Not to mention a great music set up, of course! What a find -- we'll be coming back.

Yelp
We stayed in the Elvis suite from April 25 - 29, and it was a great time. Simon is a wonderful host, the accommodations were perfect for relaxation, and the house is a well-located base of operations from which to explore the island. Hanalei had recently gotten historic rainfall, but still the community was welcoming, streets were clear, restaurants and shops were open, and most of the trails (while a bit muddy) had great views and were very well maintained. The silver lining to all the rain was that views were so green, and the number of waterfalls had nearly doubled along every trail we hiked. Thanks, Simon. We hope to see you again soon!

Yelp
I stayed here (in the Cowgirl Suite) for my first trip ever to Hawaii and I can't recommend it more highly. A really fun room with all the ameneties that was very quiet at night. I loved being able to walk across the street to the beach or walk 10 minutes and be in the middle of the town. Simon is a fantastic host with a lot of a great stories and there's a cute black cat that roams the property. A really lovely property! I hope to get a chance to go back soon.

Yelp
Three days and two night at the Surfboard House was a highlight of my trip to Kauai. I've been to Hawaii 15 - 20 over the past 40 years and this was my first visit to Kauai. I highly recommend Simon's accommodations. He was the perfect host and has everything you could desire already to go. From boogie boards, swim fins, beach chairs, umbrella's, beach bags and beach towels. From my room, Love Shack, it was a 60 second walk to the beach. The beach was not crowded, lifeguards, showers, restrooms, perfect sand, miles to walk and stroll and its right there. It was a 10 minute walk to town down the street and take a right to the best ice cream, coffee, grocery store and restaurants. The location is quiet, safe and comfortable. Now here is the part of my review I didn't want to share with the world but needs to be said....The room I stayed in was the most peaceful, stress-free, cozy, comfortable and relaxing space I had been in for years! The grounds, the patio with hot/cold outdoor shower, private entrance, coffee beans with grinder and coffee maker, every appliance you could need. And the shower/bath tub indoors as well as the outdoor shower has the best water pressure in the world. If I hadn't seen the beauty of Hanalei Bay, I would have just stayed in the room. Ahh, and the comfort of the bed!!! Hanalei Surfboard House is First Class and the host is super cool and easy and timely to work with. Loved my time there and yes, I'll be back. Mahalo

Yelp
We had a wonderful week in the Elvis room. The house is a short walk from the Pine Trees beach in Hanalei, and if you did nothing more than walk to the beach everyday, you would be happy. The house is a short walk or drive to the town of Hanalei and a convenient jumping off point for Ke'e Beach, Tunnels, Kilauea, and all of the North Shore of Kauai. The room itself is cozy and comfortable and outfitted with a great collection of Hawaiiana, Elvis memorabilia, and music artifacts. The garden outside is beautiful. Staying at the Surfboard House is like suddenly having found your own dream apartment in Hanalei. I could't recommend it more highly.

Yelp
I spent 4 silly good days staying at " the Love Shack " This place Rocks and so does Simon in so many ways. , Private eating areas, grill, mini kitchen, out door shower not sure there is anything better in Hanalei. Simon does it right... There was a plug and play incredible surround sound speaker system so you could really enjoy listening to great music while hanging out in this incredibly setting. There was also a washing machine and dryer right outside our door and all the comforts of being in paradise!

Yelp
Simon's house is awesome! He is super helpful, easy-going and friendly. We stayed in the Elvis suite, the decor is great and the room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The location is perfect, you're directly across the street from Hanalei Bay and less than five minutes from Hanalei town. We went up to the St. Regis Princeville one night to watch the sunset and I can confidently say, I much preferred the atmosphere of the surfboard house and Hanalei town to that of Princeville and the resorts there. If you want to stay on the north shore of Kauai or near the Kalalau trail, you should definitely stay at Simon's place. Cannot recommend the surfboard house enough!
google avatar

Yelp
We loved the Surfboard House! Simon was kind and helpful with restaurant, beach, and surf lesson recommendations. The Elvis Suite had everything that we needed (cooking utensils, beach towels and chairs, a cooler, etc.). The House is 1 block from Hanalei beach and just a 15 min walk into town where there are several delicious restaurants. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
When we heard about Kauai opening back up we immediately contacted Simon to book our stay. The Hanalei surfboard house is our Hawaiian destination. The grounds will lower your shoulders immediately, relaxing and laid back, but you still feel pampered. My wife and I have stayed in both The Elvis and Cowgirl rooms, both are great. Everything you need is provided in the units, including a real comfy bed. Each has it's own back yard with gas BBQ, that was easy to use and we did, a lovely front porch, and all the beach equipment you need. Just around the corner is the beach with views of the Na Pali coast and the pier. The 10 minute walk to town is easy and you'll find restaurants, market, and a variety of shops. We came while the road into Hanalei is being worked on and for us wasn't a problem. We did have to leave early our last day as our plane departed between " caravan" times. We said our goodbyes to our wonderful host Simon and are already looking to return. Thanks again for showing us the aloha .

Yelp
Hubs and I wrapped up our trip to Kauai with 4 nights in the Cowgirl Suite - it's a gem. Everything in the unit has it's place- it is very well organized and has a lot of charm with doo-dads sprinkled throughout the pad decorating it will a little funk. Pool balls in the shower, old CDs, DVDs, lots of photographs and pictures adorn the walls. AC unit cranks. Adorable very private lanai with surfboard fence that brings color to the space. Every night we stayed at the Suite we had cocktails outside at the table and played cribbage. Location is great. Walking distance to restaurants and shops downtown - take the neighborhood walk to town, so peaceful and less traffic than the main street. Hanalei Bay is a block away, huge beach- lots of surfers- great people watching. Make a reservation for dinner one night at Bar Acuda.... Yum. Also enjoyed Postcards for a low key date night and the live music at Tahiti Nui. Property has 3 rental units total and Simon, the owner, lives on premise also. All units were booked while we were there but we never saw or heard anyone- very private and quiet. We chatted with Simon daily and he is a great guy. Would definitely return- and check out the Elvis Suite or the Love Shack. Thank you Simon!

Yelp
Our stay here was one of our very best experiences and we travel quite a lot!! Our host was super helpful and the room and gardens were amazingly designed with awesome vintage pieces and perfectly clean with everything you need. The location couldnt be more perfect.....Just walk across the street to beautiful Hanelei bay !!!!!! ( umbrellas straw mats and boogie boards provided !) and a couple of blocks to town or the farmers market. The property is also very close to the amazing Napali coast hike and beaches . Cant be beat ! enjoy !

Yelp
For everyone who is thinking about staying the night at "Hanalei Surfboard House", please I beg not to stay there!! I called the gentleman to see if we could possibly get a discount because we are a family of 4 who's been in mandatory evacuation from Santa Barbara due to fires for weeks now and the owner told me that you live in SB so you can afford to pay $350 a night and hung up on me. We don't even own a house in SB, we are just renters that had to leave all our belongings behind because we only had 15 minutes to pack and leave. I've been living on my credit card the last week trying to feed my family and find a place to stay. I couldn't believe someone could be so cold hearted to tell me you can afford to pay the full amount because of where I live. Please for anyone who reads this DO NOT STAY THERE this owner has no heart and soul especially a week before Christmas which unfortunately we will have to miss this year we didn't have a tree or have any of the normal celebrations as normal ! On top of it my wife works for American which is the reason we were able to fly to Hawaii for cheap to escape the bad air and ash ! You should never judge people and we will NEVER give you our business! Very bad call when you have someone well connected in the travel industry ! We'll spread the word of your mean Christmas spirit !

Yelp
Booked a room based on the stellar reviews, location, and Simon's bio and couldn't have been happier. Stayed half the time in the Elvis Room (large room) and the rest in the Love Shack (small cottage on property). Loved the personality of both rooms and the use of everything you don't get with a hotel or resort (beach chairs, umbrellas, freezer, & BBQ Grill (we cooked up some fish on our last night). Just a couple hundred feet from the beach and a 10 minute walk into town.

Yelp
Hanalei Surfboard House is a unique, very inviting, friendly, and relaxing place. The rooms are very comfortable and very creatively decorated. They have a well-equipped kitchen They inspire relaxation. HSH is one block away from Hanalei Beach and a short ride from what I think are the best beaches on the island. The owner went out of his way to give advice and suggestions that made our trip far more interesting. HSH is a perfect antidote for those who want a very relaxing atmosphere and time away from crowded, mass-market hotels. We have traveled extensively and rate HSB as one of the best places we have stayed at. We certainly expect to return for a longer stay.

Yelp
I was able to get some last minute time off and decided to go to Hanalei . Stumbled upon Hanalei Surfboard House somehow on my internet search and what a find . We stayed in the Elvis suite which was great. It's own space , similar to a studio apartment with everything you need. The space also has it's own backyard and a front porch area , which we used mostly . The location is also great . Within a couple , really like two , blocks to the beach and a great run to the pier for all my fellow runners. We drove to town once , i don't know why , totally in waking distance . Jackie gave us a warm welcome, checked us in, and answered all our questions . After entering we came to realize that Simon is from England and so is my husband so that was kind of a fun fact . We also made friends with the black cat and enjoyed her company . Can't wait to head back . So sad to leave .

Yelp
My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary in Kauai last week. We stayed in the love shack. It is set up like a studio apartment. The Decour is awesome. There are thousands of record albums on shelves around the room, and a vintage jukebox. All of the things you will need are in place. There are boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach chairs, towels, and ice chest, and more. Jackie helped us settle in and she and her daughter are charming. I recommend this unique rental for your next trip. This house is like a vintage Porsche 911. Any rich guy can buy a new Porsche at the dealership but this place has the character and charm of a classic. The nearby Saint Regis resort is lovely, but I will definitely stay at the surfboard house when I return to Kawai. Show less Stayed: September 2018, traveled as a couple

Yelp
We stayed at the Surf Board House for 5 days on our trip to Kauai and loved it. The Surf Board House is less than a block to Hanalei Beach, is immaculately decorated with Elvis or Cowgirl themes, and Simon, the owner, made us feel incredibly welcomed. The studio include a kitchenette, great bathroom, wifi, dvd, and satellite TV. The location is spectacular. A block to the beach, 20 minutes to Ke'e Beach, and only 30 minutes to Lihue.

Yelp
Without a doubt the ultimate place to unwind and relax. Hanalei is a wonderful, laid back town and these accommodations delight the senses. The exquisitely beautiful shared garden entry, comfortable and stylish thematic room decor, and private outdoor garden spaces are all thoughtfully designed, executed and meticulously maintained. Simon is a wonderful host who immediately made us feel welcome and at home. There is no reason to even get in your car as it is half a block to the beautiful beach and a short walk to the restaurants, stores and grocery, Our unit was stocked with everything we needed including boogie boards, beach chairs and towels, a cooler and umbrella. We live on Oahu, regularly visit the other islands and this is our favorite property. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about Simon and the Surf Board house. We stayed in the Love Shack for a week and couldn't have been more thrilled. It set the mood for great days; waking up by the beach and enjoying coffee. Then after adventure filled days, it provided the relaxing mood for the evenings. We will most definitely be returning to stay here in the future. Thanks so much, Simon.

Yelp
Staying here was hands down the highlight of our honeymoon!! Simon is so wonderful, and gave us the most amazing tips and ideas for activities!! The room is so neat, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and it is only a 1 minute walk from the beach! We were also able to walk to the downtown to eat dinner or shop. I would highly recommend Hanalei Surfboard House to everyone!!!

Yelp
My husband and I kicked-off our honeymoon in Kauai with 3 days at the Loveshack! We LOVED our time there and can't wait to return. The location is perfect. It's steps away from the beach and a short walk into town. The design and aesthetic of the cottage is impeccable! From Simon's record collection to the distressed walls, selection of kitschy Hawaiian curtains, lampshades and furniture, it's a fun place to hang-out. The cottage is equipped with a kitchenette, and a full refrigerator. Getting groceries was a great alternative to going out to eat every meal. There is also a grill on the private back patio. Access to beach chairs was a nice touch. Laundry, easy parking and a private entrance puts this rental over-the-top. I can't recommend this cottage enough for anyone looking for a quiet, unique get-away. It's probably not your place if you are a family with kids or want to throw a big party.

Yelp
My partner and I had such a wonderful stay at the Surfboard house. Simon was a superb host and a really cool guy. The house is literally across the street from the ocean, you can hear the waves from the property and it is a short walk from Hanalei's town. We already have another trip planned to go back and stay with him again! Very much looking forward to it. Highly recommend if you are looking to live the real island life, away from fancy resorts, etc.

Yelp
We recently stayed on Kauai for 10 days - 3 at the surfboard house in the Cowgirl suite - and it was by far our favorite. Simon is such a lovely host. He really has everything figured out from delicious coffee in the room, umbrellas, beach bags, wifi, a sound system, grill, and laundry. He is also a really nice guy. The place has a great bohemian feel to it and such interesting decor everywhere you look. The location is also amazing - just grab your surfboard and cross the street. And it was so nice after a long day surfing or in town to come back to your own little home and be able to relax, grill, watch movies, etc. It also saves money. This place is not inexpensive, but restaurants in Kauai are really pricey. Being able to grill and make our own cocktails at the surfboard house makes up for it. When we come back to Kauai, we will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Hanalei has been our "go to" place in Kaua'i for years and we've stayed in a variety of homes and inns along the way. The reason you should check out the Hanalei Surf Board House are numerous. The first is location. Easy walk or bike to town and a literal stone's throw to the best part of the beach. (Surfers note: this is the Pine Trees break made famous by the Iron's brothers) These apartments are set up so that you won't want for anything. Top of the line everything combined with a very cool eye for decorating. It's tropical, it's retro and it's also full of gold records from the owner's previous life as record mogul. The gardens are inspired and beautiful. A recent upgrade is the addition of air conditioning to the units...something you don't normally find in many of the rentals. The beds are excellent too. This place is simply the best. But book ahead, it's pretty darned popular for good reason. A truly unique property. Look for the surfboard fence at the west end of Weke Rd. and you know you're home.

Yelp
The Surfboard house is by far the best place to stay in Hanalei. As many of the reviews have already stated, the suites do not leave you wanting for anything and the location is prime. We stayed in The Cowgirl suite and were very impressed with the attention to detail throughout. From the awesome shower decorated with vintage pool balls and dominoes to the birthday candles in the kitchenette, Simon has created a true and unique home away from home. The suite was very clean and the fun decor will get the conversations started. We were also very impressed with Simon himself. He was always walking about working on the paradise of a garden he has created. The walkway to our suite was gorgeous! He never imposed on us but was always around when we needed anything. He also gave us excellent suggestions for dinning out and the best beaches to lay back and relax. Simon is very friendly and approachable. We loved picking his brain about his music career and how it lead him to Kauai. Plus we are big English Beat fans so having their gold records on the walls made it that much better. The only problem about the Surfboard house is that you have to leave. We stayed 7 days and felt like we were just getting started. Our next stay will definitely be two weeks. Thank you Simon for making out trip memorable and relaxing. This is by far one of the most inspirational vacations we have had thanks to Simon and The Surfboard house. Yelp
I've stayed in Hanalei before so I know that I love the town... It's beautiful, a little funky, and very relaxing. I picked the Surfboard House on a friend's recommendation, and we were very happy. The Cowgirl Room is a great guest room with it's own little patio, garden, and grill, and is decorated with absolutely wonderful retro style. It's a very short walk to the Lumahai beach, which is great if you like to tan, surf, or boogie board. It's a few blocks from "down town" Hanalei, restaurants, groceries, and Kayaking. It's a quiet, convenient, and very memorable place to spend your days. Simon was often about the property in the late morning ready to answer a question, or give a recommendation, but never intrusive. Next time I hope to be able to hear more from his music collection :^)

Yelp
This place is amazing! Simon has taken great care to provide anything and everything one could possibly need. Like seriously..."oh I wish we had a beach chair", I look up, there's 2 on the front porch, the backpack kind, with coolers in the back pocket. There's boogie boards, umbrellas, mats, beach towels and everything you could want for a day at the beach. This happened so many times during our stay from the BBQ grill in the back -great grill tools!- to a hotplate to cook breakfast on inside, spatulas, wine openers, a dish rack, soap, scrubbers, ziplock baggies to keep my phone dry when it rained, there's a freakin salad spinner in there! It was really nice to know that we we're going home everyday to a well appointed house. Simon is super nice, he'll give you some tips about good places in town, and then he disappears, like a nice neighbor that you see here and there on your journey through paradise. The house looks like it's 2 blocks from the beach on Gmaps, but it's actually a block, maybe less. Me and my gf carried large surfboards to the beach everyday with no hassle whatsoever. Sometimes we would drive a little ways down and park at different spots along the bay to find different surf breaks. The place is in the middle of everything I wanted, we could've walked to town if it was a little less rainy (it comes and goes for like 5-10 mins and then is dry and beautiful until the next stripe of rain hits, don't believe your weather app if it's all rain icons). It's like a 10 min walk to the town center. More: The water pressure in the shower is great, the place has been professionally sound proofed so you don't even hear that you have neighbors, there's a washer/dryer. If you're worried about price, you shouldn't be. You'll actually save some money by cooking a few dinners or breakfasts because it's sooo accommodating and lovely. Thx for a great time Simon, we'll be back! Ps. We stayed in the cowgirl suite.

Yelp
Where do I start ? Simon is awesome. The Hanalei Surfboard House is awesome ! We stayed in the Love Shack for 5 nights. Love the decor, feel and story behind all the furnishings! Extremely clean and comfortable. Walking distance to town and right across from the beach. Private patio, outdoor shower, private, quiet and very comfortable bed and bedding and all the extra touches to make our stay perfect ! I would highly recommend !
