Hana's Tradewind Cottages

This cottage has a rustic feel, like you're living like the locals. Except you get a hot tub, which is fantastic after hiking up to Waimoku Falls. The place is surrounded by flowers and trees.||||I liked it. The sitting area had great-looking furniture, the bed had a comfy pillow top mattress. Kitchen had pretty much everything we needed, including olive oil and seasonings, and there's a gas barbecue on the porch as well. The Hana area is very wet, and mosquitoes are a problem. The cottage's windows are all screened but we still had one or two follow us in. Mosquito repellent spray was provided, and the geckos were awesome. I adored the geckos. (Want some cheap entertainment? Turn on the porch light at night and watch those guys chase the bugs!)||||The only hard time we had was with the Wifi. The signal comes from the main house and even in line-of-sight, we were getting at best two bars, usually one and sometimes none. Averagely 40% packet loss.||||Rebecca and Mike were friendly and super helpful, and took care of other minor problems right away.

The Tradewinds Cottage was spacious, clean, and in a beautiful setting for our 2 night stay in Hana. This was a private, secluded cottage nestled among a jungle of foliage. The hot tub on the deck was a very popular feature with our family. We loved exploring Hana but caution prospective travelers - there are very few food options. If you plan to cook in, bring the groceries you'll need as there is no supermarket. Although the Hagsawana General Store is interesting to visit, it has limited options. Dinner at the Thai Food truck was excellent our first night but we had to get creative for dinner the next night. As such, it helped that the kitchen in our cottage did have adequate utensils for us to prepare meals. No matter, the beaches, caves, and lava formations on the coast made our stay well worth it.

The cottage is very reasonably priced, and the living areas are nice. Sitting out on the deck is very peaceful, but you need the mosquito coils-supplied- as there are a lot of mosquitoes as well as small lizards that do get inside. If you don't like wildlife, this is not the place for you. There are not many places to eat in Hana, and we brought our own supplies, but the kitchen without a stove and poor gas pressure on the hot plate called for some creative cooking. Don't expect a relaxing shower as the water pressure is very week and the hot water not so hot. The advertised bedding was for a queen bed, I think it was a double, and two twin beds, which were singles. The power point in the second bedroom was falling off the wall, a safety issue. A request to do some laundry was met with a firm no and we were told that there were no laundry facilities in Hana, not overly friendly or welcoming.

Certainly a welcome sight after the long 3hr drive down the Road to Hana! Curves and narrow road that goes on for hours but the views are just out of this world. If you are hesitant to drive you can get a tour bus to take you.||||The cottage is wonderful, neat spacious and great kitchen. No air conditioning but you don't need it because of the efficient fans. We were actually cold. It rained heavily and temp was down to the 50's. but warmed up in the afternoon. Drove past Hana as far as we dared and walked the botanical garden and lava tube. Beautiful scenery and fun.||||The gardens is wonderful around the cottage and the flower arrangement that greeted up upon arrival was stunning. Tradewinds is on a tropical flower plantation that exports flowers worldwide. Impressive, friendly and wonderful hosts. Love the 2 dogs that came to greet us daily.

We had a lovely time in Hana, the house was comfy...although we are spoiled to A/C in Texas we didn't recall the house being without it. It was a nice breeze from the tradewinds at night and we didn't stick around the house during the daytime to see if we could handle the heat, too much to see! We had everything we needed based on what was available to you in Hawaii. It's true that you're spoiled with everything you need on the mainland. Loved the hot tub and loved Kaia! I would have packed that pup in my suitcase if I could. Thank you again for your hospitality. God bless.

We stayed in the Hana Cabana in March 2018. This is a rustic property in the Hawaiian jungle, so just be aware. You will deal with a lot of critters. Tons of geckos, mosquitos, pincher bugs and more. My husband was bit/pinched by a centipede IN THE BED in the middle of the night. We saw it but could not catch it in time before it disappeared. We tore the bed apart looking for it and never found it. Afraid to go back to sleep knowing it was still there, we ended up sleeping in our car. At midnight in Hana, you can’t just go check into the “Holiday Inn.” Just understand this is what you sign up for when staying in an airy structure in the jungle. The lack of hot water for two days was also an issue as described in other posts. Wifi never worked and no cell coverage.

Really lovely set up, great property, great proximity to everything fun (the dogs are amazing!). However as we were leaving, some woman (maybe the caretaker...?) blocked us in, spoke to us like we were children, interrogated us about how many people were at the house. She never identified herself, so still unsure what role she plays. It really left a terrible end to what was an otherwise ideal trip to Hana. I live on the island, and work at a resort... there is a positive way to deal with guests, and a negative way to deal with guests. We were her guests. This was not a positive interaction.

It is in a secluded area, quite, what we heard were soothing raindrops, the tradewinds, birds, and leaves brushing each other when the breeze blows in, and at night we can hear the ocean waves from a distance. The place is clean, comfortable, with complete privacy from the outside world where you can just relax and enjoy the rain forest like location. We loved the jacuzzi and the BBQ grill at the balcony. We truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Pluses-available, clean, fairly close to town, kitchen, hot tub Minuses-shower is either scalding hot or freezing cold, decor is dated, no air conditioning.

As you can see there are no current reviews for Tradewinds Cottage so I will give you an update. My daughter, granddaughter and I stayed in the cottage June 14 and 15, 2018. We were repeat guests- having enjoyed our stay one year ago, but we will not return because (1) a horrible smell emanated from the main bedroom- urine I;m guessing. (2) kitchen sink faucet broken. (3) stove barely operational- took many clicks on the electronic ignition and turning burners on and off to get a flame(4) holes in living room window screens which we patched with bandaids- mosquitoes and gnats otherwise could enter(5) stopper in bathroom sink broken. As I have not heard from the owner after leaving a review on homeaway.com I am posting here. I hope things can be rectified for future guests as the setting is charming (minus the neighbor's barking dogs which were not a problem last year.)

We stayed at the Tradewinds cottage in Hana. A gorgeous, tucked away escape complete with private hot tub, grill, and fully equipped kitchen. No A/C, and definitely not a hotel feel, but we loved that aspect. Some geckos and bugs got inside, so not for the super picky, but a great place to truly get away from it all in gorgeous Hana.

Truly enjoyed our one nite stay. Normally there is a two nite minimum but we were able to get the one night stay that we needed as a result of filling space between other reservations. Directions were clear and easy to follow. Hot tub on deck lovely and worked great. True with other review that there is no a/c but it wasnt needed. Gorgeous grounds and tucked away. A real "i am in a rain forest" feel with all the luxuries of home. We would stay there again and recommend to anyone looking for a non hotel feel. Price is right on the money for what you get.

This place was just perfect! The master bedroom was a beautiful place to wake up to the sunrise in. The hot tub and deck space was a wonderful place to enjoy the beautiful gardens. We enjoyed grilling fish and having a quiet dinner on the patio. Saw a few small geckos in the house, but they seem to stay to themselves. It was perfect for our family of four.
