"Alice came home with a vat of white rice from Hanco’s, and she let me eat her leftovers. Ordinarily a vat of rice wouldn’t taste like anything, but Alice dusted it with some nutritional yeast. I wish “nutritional yeast” had a name that made it sound less like hospital food; seems like with a rebrand it could easily be an American staple."

I don’t usually give five star reviews, as I am pretty picky. Today I ordered takeout, and was suggested by the cashier to order the grilled chicken Bahn Mi. The flavor did not disappoint! You can choose to get no spicy, mild, or spicy. I decided to get spicy, and although I feel like it could’ve been more spicy, the quality of the sandwich made me look past it. The chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the veggies were fresh and crunchy, and the bread was also fresh and toasted perfectly! Will be coming back to try their boba next! (Excuse the photos these were the best I could get)

The food and speed of service is great- I got nothing but great things to say about the place except for this one experience that am now commenting about. Sanitary and hand washing procedures absolutely lacking. While seated in dining room- I’ve observed tea making server literally picking their nose and flicking it around while in conversation with a mate and proceeds to continues to service drinks without having washed their hands. This can be a one off- by no means am I trying to deter service from the place. Rather I hope management can see this review and take proactive measures to redress this disgusting behavior.

Google
Pretty nifty place overall for bubble tea. Food: bubble tea quality comparable to other bubble tea places. The coconut milk tea with mango jelly was delicious and refreshing. Service: typical of a bubble tea spot—pay, wait, called to collect bubble tea. Atmosphere: cozy spot. Looks nice.

Google
Overall very good banh mi sandwiches, and great vegetarian options. Really, really delicious bread. Our sandwiches (the vegetarian chicken and vegetarian pork) could have used more cilantro. Also, they asked spice level, and we requested medium for the veggie pork and "very hot" for the veggie chicken. The latter was a little hotter (maybe a few more jalapeno slices and a little more spicy mayo), but I was hoping for more heat. The vegetarian "pork" itself was really good and well flavored. The vegetarian "chicken" was good too. I'll be back for the tofu banh mi next time!

Google
not bad! i think the vegetarian pho is kind of plain since the tofu is just added separately. i put a lot of sriracha in here to have flavor, but i like sriracha. the staff was very nice.

Wall Fish

Google
Quick service and pleasant staff. They accept cards and you can dine in with proof of vax. Masks when ordering! I liked the meat in the classic sandwich but it didn’t stand out. Nothing was bad, I would definitely come here again I just don’t know if I would go out of my way to go back unless I’m walking by.

Google
Not worth the price. I ordered the shrimp rice and it only came with no more than 6 shrimps. They cut it in half to make it looks like they give a lot of shrimps. I paid like 12 dollars not for lots of salads. I ordered shrimp rices, not just salad. The broth of the pho is tasty but could be better.

Google
With how rare it is to find great Vietnamese food in New York, this is the best place I've ever had. The round-eye steak, authentic mint flavors, and organic broth makes the Beef Pho a 10/10.

Yelp
I'm so torn about this review! If you asked me 2 months ago I would've given this 4 stars, but the inconsistency in food quality brings it down to a 3 for me. Growing up in San Jose, CA, I was spoiled with so many Vietnamese food options. Entire restaurants were dedicated to banh mi, pho, and other categories of Vietnamese cuisine! When I moved to the area, I was excited to have a local spot to get my bun/pho fix, but I have to admit I was surprised to see bubble tea on the menu, and only one (or is it two?) option for pho. Fast forward 6 months and I finally give this place a shot, their rice vermicelli with grilled pork was surprisingly delicious! I love that it came with fresh veggies, green onion oil, and nicely packed fish sauce. Most importantly, the char on the pork was perfect! Since then, I've ordered from here a few more times and I'd definitely recommend the rice vermicelli over the rice plate. I was getting ready to add this to my rotation of takeout regulars, but the most recent visit was a big disappointment. My husband ordered a chicken dish, and while I know it can be a taste preference for some, the meat had a lot of cartilage which he doesn't enjoy and it was never there in the past. My pork was unusually fatty and there were entire pieces that had no "meat". The cucumber slices also weren't fresh, they were dry and on the verge of looking dehydrated. Long story short - good food but it's a hit or miss. Bubble tea is decent for this block but there are EXCELLENT options a few blocks away in Downtown Brooklyn. Avoid after school because all the kids are here!

Yelp
Hanco's serves Vietnamese cuisine, such as Pho, Banh Mi, and bubble tea, fast-food style. On a cold Sunday afternoon, my partner and I decided to have something warm and soupy for lunch. Luckily, Hanco's in Smith Street is just a stone's throw away from where we live. The restaurant is simple with a few tables for walk-in diners, but we did realize that this place relies mostly upon takeaways and deliveries. For lunch, I had the pho, a noodle soup with beef broth and grilled pork, served with sprouts and mint. I found the dish very filling with large portions. It was a hearty lunch and ideal for cold weather days. We will come back here for more!

Yelp
After every trip, I always come home craving some good ol' pho to warm my tummy. Unfortunately, there aren't many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Hanco's is the closest location to me that was still open, so I came to give it a try on a Monday night an hour before closing. I got the Beef Pho ($14) and Summer Rolls ($7.75). Even though we were dining in, everything was served in to-go containers. The pho is a pretty small bowl, but the flavor is solid and veggies were fresh. I also had to ask for sriracha on the side to add into my soup. The summer rolls were decent; good if you're looking for something healthy. Overall, it gets the job done to curb my cravings, but so pricey from what I'm used to for Vietnamese food.

Yelp
I got the classic banh mi with classic milk tea w boba. i expected the baguette to be longer but it was good. the staff was friendly and the interior was very homey.

Yelp
Banh Mi is delicious!!!! Walked in around 5 PM on a Monday, and they were quick to help me to my order. I ordered a Grilled Pork Banh Mi with medium spicy, and sat in the AC'd store while they prepared my food. Got my hot bag, then went on my way towards Prospect Park. Due to unforeseen events, I ate my Banh Mi about 2 hours later, while it was still warm enough, this banh mi was still absolutely delicious. The sandwich has a slight kick (pretty strong for medium), but it was definitely not overwhelming. Pickled veggies are fresh, crispy, and not overpowering either. The meat was delicious!!! Grilled perfectly, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Bun is also delicious. I don't know what to say, didn't try their pho or boba, but their banh mi is worth a visit, and a return visit. I was super happy that this place didn't opt for the usual mayo bland dressing that most Viet places use, but they kept their sandwich juicy yet not heavy. Great food.

Yelp
Hanco's bubble tea is some of the best in Brooklyn. The service is always fast and the employees are lovely. I have never eaten food from Hanco's so I can't attest to the quality of the food. However, I love the vibe. It's kind of a whole in the wall, and the establishment is dated. This doesn't stop me from loving the drinks. Love the coconut bubble tea, brown sugar milk boba, and some really fun other flavors.

Yelp
Competent but disappointing. If you're in the area and are looking for Vietnamese food, try Bahnmigos or Diem Eatery instead.

Yelp
Really yummy bubble tea and nice service. A bunch of kids out of school during the time I came here, it's a nice wholesome vibe. Didn't try the food but it looked DELICIOUS

Yelp
My issue here with this place is the food safety. Stomach got really sick after eating a sandwich from here. I mean really sick...

Yelp
Great food! love the sandwiches. always happy with everything. I will be coming back for another bahn mi!

Naomi I.

Yelp
Might be the best pho I've ever had. I had beef and my gf had the grilled chicken which was very good and season well. The service was nice and fast. The bubble teas were also very yummy!

Yelp
REVIEW FOR VEGETARIAN PHO ONLY: I beg of you not to come here for vegetarian pho........for a whopping $14 dollars u might as well just boil some water at home and throw in rice noodles, tofu and broccoli. Everything is bland, from the broth (you will fare better with store bought veggie stock), to the tofu. On top of that they didn't have sriracha....what kind of self respecting Vietnamese establishment does not have sriracha!? Maybe it's the west coaster in me that feels extremely offended this is what they're passing as "pho."
google avatar

Cherrilyn B.

Yelp
I grew up eating Banh mi and this was pretty on par. Very flavorful, great pickled veggies. The meat was tender. I'd get it again if I were ever in the area

Yelp
Hanco's is open!! Just got delivery during the Coronavirus shutdowns. Hanco's has been a trusty delivery option for a while, and I was super excited to see that they opened their doors again. My favorite this is their vermicelli noodle salad with pork. It's light and delicious, but not really a "salad." If you're into almond flavor, their almond boba is delicious - but I've only allowed myself to order it once. Their banh mis are good too, but they won't be the best you've ever had. Pho is tasty! You really can't go wrong.

Yelp
Great hangout... you can tell by the crowds of school kids that flow in during lunch! The sandwiches are filling but light. The Pho is flavorful. Favorite lunch spot

Yelp
I have visited probably 5 times in-person (either to dine-in or pick-up) and 1 time for takeout in the last 6+ years. I have decided to write a review because i really enjoy their foods especially their banh Mi. The carrot/veg mixture is delicious with the vinegar. The meat portion is excellent. I'm comparing them with the traditional viet restaurants in Chinatown, 8th ave, and 86th st. I'd say Hanco's is pretty up there. Although their banh mi are great, their soup based noodles are average. The broth are pretty basic that lacks flavor. But the grilled meats are grilled to perfection without burning them. I've tried the summer roll in the past too- pretty decent as well. All in all, if you live in south Brooklyn like me, I'm sure you have heard of Hanco's and you gotta go try it! They have one in park slope too.

Yelp
I am super bummed to be giving such a poor review as the pho beef broth is quite flavorful. I ordered the Beef Pho with Tofu and paid extra for extra veggies. According to the woman I spoke on the phone with, the only veggie they automatically add is bean sprouts. I have had pho from so many different places and having veggies like broccoli, onion, and carrots is pretty expected. I was really disappointed to have paid extra for about $0.10 worth of bean sprouts. My other big complaint is that by the time it was delivered, the broth was barely over room temperature. Because I had tofu, that isn't a big deal, but if I had ordered something that involved raw meat that needed to cook in the broth it would have been a big problem. I was located less than a mile from the restaurant, so distance was not a factor. Overall, as someone who likes veggies in my pho, I would have to not recommend this spot and can safely say I will never order from here again!

Yelp
Hanco's is a huge staple for my family we all have individual orders and favourites and it's always a fun cute place to pick up food from. I normally get the chicken sandwich which is just spectacular I also highly recommend the Thai bubble tea, vanilla latte bubble tea, and Spring Rolls

Yelp
I'm writing this on behalf of my husband's order. We were picking up a cake from across the street and my husband said he would run in to get a drink...at 2:45pm on a Saturday...I thought something happened to him because he didn't return for almost 15 minutes...I thought he had decided to order food or something, but no...he came back with a bubble tea. I was annoyed...annoyed that it took that long and annoyed that they messed up his order...he asked for no bubbles and they gave him bubbles...I guess they had 15 minutes to forget what was ordered....whatever...but when I asked how it tasted, his response was, "nothing to write home about"...neither one of us noticed the B rating until it was too lateyikes...
google avatar

Yelp
The $11 classic banh mi came with pate, bologna/cold cuts, but also a heap of BBQ ground pork, which was the component that held the sandwich back. The bread was also mediocre, a bit too cakey, but with a crumbly (and not flaky) crust.

Chelsea C.

Yelp
food was 4/5 stars, but the service was absolutely horrible. they were very rude and heard them talking about us. kicked all my daughters friends out when they tried to use the bathroom. and the ambiance was ok.. they didn't have any music which was unappreciated.
google avatar

Barbara C.

Yelp
They do have vegetarian/vegan broth for pho, and you have the option of adding tofu or vegetables. The flavors were just "ok," though. I have had vegan pho at other places and the broth at those other places were far more robust and flavorful. Here at Hanco's, the broth just tasted like salty water, only mildly improved by adding basil. The tofu was also super bland, but at least there was a good-sized portion of tofu, so I definitely didn't leave hungry. The soup also didn't have a lot in the way of vegetables - just a little bit of green onion and what equated to probably a handful of broccoli florets. Service was good, though - the lady taking my order didn't understand what "vegan" meant (language barrier) when I asked about the broth, but she was able to tell me that there was no fish sauce or any other animal products in the vegetarian broth. My soup was ready fairly quickly. So, I guess I would come back if I was in a pinch, but I'm going to look for better vegetarian/vegan pho elsewhere.

Yelp
My husband has tried banh mi from here a couple of times, I thought it was decent both of the times. We were craving banh mi this weekend, and decided to order delivery. The delivery was fast and orders were as described, so no issues there. I had the vegetarian pork roll. Compared with pork rolls in my native Sydney, the rolls here have less variety of vegetables, and do not contain butter or pate, but have mayonnaise on them. Neither did my husband's roll contain butter or pate, and his was a regular pork roll. Food here is fine, but i didn't like the lack of key ingredients, and would not have food from here again.

Yelp
Came on Thursday night, 10/24 minutes before closing (SORRY T.T!!!) We just came from a movie screening at the local Regal/UA theatre and wanted something quick to eat before heading home. It was clean and quick. The service was friendly and quick. We knew what we wanted; ordered to go. I felt bad for coming in before they were closing, so they were cleaning up around us (there was a table about to leave, so we weren't the only ones holding them up). We got 2 banh mi (#1 Classic & #3 Grilled Pork) and left to take the F train home. We ate the sandwiches on the train ride. The sandwiches were nicely toasted and delish! Hubby got the Classic but wasn't a fan of the ground pork. Usually, the #1 classic banh mi has pork, ham, or other slices of meat, pate, and the cucumbers, cilantro, and pickled carrots/daikons. This one has ground pork and vietnamese ham with the rest. It was yummy! I liked my grilled pork has it has more flavor than most grill pork banh mi. I would come back if I'm in the area again.

Bob R.

Yelp
awful service, super rude, yelling at my friends and I for a mess we didn't create. good food.

A B.

Yelp
Tasty banh mi. Fast service through easy online ordering system directly through them, not a 3rd party service like Uber ears. Zero complaints.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Simple Viet food in the area with fast service. The pork was tasty and tender, bubble tea was not too sweet and the pearls were chewy and not over cooked. There isn't too much competition besides their other location in Brooklyn heights but it always seems to have customers inside so they must be doing something right.
google avatar

Anothy P.

Yelp
Service is iffy . But the pho is delicious. Been here many times with my girlfriend and we love the boba and the pho with grill chicken . Food is simple , inexpensive and delicious !

Megan R.

Yelp
I usually order the classic bahn mi and Vietnamese coffee and it's great every single time!
google avatar

Canny F.

Yelp
I kept hearing that the bahn mi is consistently great here so naturally I order the pho instead. I was hesitant to try the pho, but I was immensely craving it . The flavor in the broth was so intense and flavorful, alongside the grilled pork. I was absolutely shocked that I can get quality pho around this neighborhood, and I felt envious for the people living around here. The grilled pork was seasoned nicely and it was not greasy. The noodle had a nice chew to it and all the ingredients were fresh. Service was fast and the workers were polite. Absolutely nothing to complain about. I will be a repeat customer.

Yelp
If you hail from the west coast like me, then you know that the Vietnamese go-to sandwich chain is Lee's. So naturally when you move to Brooklyn, you're looking for the equivalent to get your fix, amiriteeee?! Thankfully, this place can hook it up with your banh mi needs. Loves: + Good sandwiches. I mean, even their vegetarian chicken is good (which means all you vegans can eat in peace here too, okay). + Price. $9 for a sandwich that gets you full? YES. + Location. Stone's throw away from the subway (and in my 'hood) so double points. + Clean space. There are a lot of other necessary Vietnamese dishes here like pho, vermicelli noodles, milk tea, etc. While I have not had them all yet, I know I'll already save those for my next visit. :)
google avatar

Kaley R.

Yelp
Pho has become my comfort food (and also hangover cure, though there haven't been many of those during this whole time of self-isolation) and Hanco's is a my go-to spot. The broth is so so so good, and they put a hefty amount of noodles, bean sprouts, onion, etc. Tip: I always ask for extra hoisin and spicy sauce. Service is super quick and they're great for takeout right now. They have the restaurant set up so only one person can enter at a time to grab pick up, and people wait outside if their food isn't ready. Plus, hand sanny at the door.
google avatar

Kristi W.

Yelp
Hanco's is my always my favorite bahn mi because of the bread- has the perfect bounce back with a little crunch! We ordered the shredded chicken and soft tofu sandwiches today. The order was ready quickly and pick up was easy. Neither sandwich travelled well the 10 minute drive home, despite asking for no mayo (did that just for travel). Sadly they were a bit soggy- no great toast on the bread either and there wasn't much chicken in mine. It's still a solid 4, but the sandwiches I picked up from the 7th ave location a couple weeks ago were far better.
google avatar

Sherry C.

Yelp
I ordered a chicken sandwich, , why am I having a full tofu sandwich ??? I'm allergic to tofu due to my syndrome so this is a major issue. Thank you hancos for sending me straight to the ER
google avatar

Yelp
Fast and friendly pickup/delivery during COVID! My bubble tea craving was REAL...and Hanco's made all my boba dreams come true.

Yelp
Wow So good !!! The Perfect crunch bread and tangy veggies in the grilled pork sandwich was awesome ! $7.25 for a generous portion . Will be back ! Watch your step if you head down stairs !

Yelp
Unacceptable food quality, portions & customer service. Ordered salad with grilled chicken, paying $5 extra for extra chicken. Despite the $16 price, it was barely larger than a side salad at a diner. Worse, the amount of chicken was exactly the same as a second salad we ordered without the extra protein. Both salads weighed exactly the same, despite paying five dollars extra for one of them. The chicken was tough & fatty. At least 1/4 of it was inedible. When we called, they said "we asked the chef and he put extra chicken." They initially offered nothing, then only begrudgingly offered some additional chicken. We called more out of principal than to get anything, but their response just made the experience worse. We will not be returning.

Yelp
This review is for takeout. My husband and I order delivery from Hanco's quite often. It's always solid - piping hot and rich broth, generous amount of meat and noodles. Their grilled pork bahnmi is also great. I do wish the bread was a bit more airy/crispy sometimes though. Overall I recommend this place if you're craving pho around the area!
google avatar

Garima G.

Yelp
vegetarian chicken banh mi - didn't get my usual tofu and glad I tried this. It was delicious and spicy. Baguette was light and crispy Not pictured but I also tried their hot jasmine boba - the jasmine green tea was good but I didn't like chewing on boba in a hot drink but that was my fault Great lunch spot for a quick pickup in the area

Sahana P.

Yelp
Slow service and just average food. Really disappointed was expecting a lot more. Would try other places instead.

Yelp
On the first bite in for the classic , I was immediately disappointed. The bread quality is super soft and not a typical banh mi bread. The toppings were okay, but what stood out to be most disappointing was that the ingredients were put together with no synergy. I wanted to try the pho here, but this makes me especially nervous that the pho will be not good. Believe me, I have not had a good pho in New York since I have been here.

Yelp
I love Vietnamese food. Then again, it seems I enjoy/love all cuisines. I've been to Hanco's many times so it is odd I missed reviewing it. What's more odd is that I have always gone to their BK Heights location. Since both locations are the same owner, I'll review as one entity. Hanco's is an express Vietnamese establishment --either eat in or to go. There's much to select from the menu---summer rolls (one of my all time faves), salads, Pho soups and sandwiches. They also have a variety of great teas---hot or cold, bubble/non-bubble. Solid place & satisfying for your Vietnamese fix.
google avatar

Cathy H.

Yelp
I tried their taro bubble tea. Bubbles were yummy and they gave you a good amount of it. The taro tea itself was mediocre. I have had better tasting teas from other places. There should be little or no caffeine in the tea as I am usually very sensitive to caffeine and I did not feel much effect after drinking it. The price is not cheap or expensive and comparable to other bubble tea stores. They do not automatically ask you for less, more or regular sugar or ice like other bubble tea stores so be sure to include that in your order if you wish to have it differently. I felt that they put a bit too much ice in my drink without me saying less ice. People were eating food on the tables around me and it looked great.
google avatar

Yelp
Stepped in after randomly walking by one Sunday afternoon for a pick me up. Wait was very quick. We ordered a honeydew bubble tea, an almond bubble tea, and the classic bahn mi. The bahn mi was so surprisingly full of flavor and ingredients--all fresh. Baguette was perfectly toasted and crunchy on the outside, there was plenty of meats in the sub. Bubble tea was aromatic and not too sweet. They seem to cook their tapioca in a sweetened sugar to allow for the bubbles to taste yummy too. I can't wait to go back to try their pho!!
google avatar

Danyang Z.

Yelp
I've gotten delivery from here a few times - this is a solid Vietnamese spot. We've tried the pho, the banhmi, and the vermicelli salad. I think their pork banhmi is the standout!

Michelle L.

Yelp
I went here for the first time with a friend. I was made to feel rushed right off the bat. When said I was dinning I she told me they closed at 9. It was 8:50. I jokingly said I'll eat fast, which I usually do. It's not my fault it takes you 10 min to prepare food. There was a man mopping the floors while foods being prepared , they had several orders they were working on. Def not sanitary to do that. The board of health would def fine then for that. They may get a call as well. I got my food and the same man mopping was now aggressively opening and closing the door blowing my hair everywhere , which was super annoying. Then some third man bends over and yells Closed I'm eating ! I'll never go here again and I wish I went somewhere else tonight. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants this place is ok at best!

Yelp
Let everyone else write about the classic banh mi or the grilled pork or the chicken--allow me to rhapsodize about the tofu sandwich. I was feeling veg one day and decided to grab lunch from here. This is clearly a spot that gets a fair amount of business. They had a few people waiting outside and delivery people zipping in and out. Already, that said something (I made a mental note to order ahead next time). I waited between 5-10 minutes for my order. Service was very efficient considering how many people they had to serve. When they called my order, I could feel the warmth of the sandwich inside the paper bag as I cradled it like a baby back home. Oh my goodness, it was so good. For the uninitiated, you may be taken aback by a foul odor, but that's just the fermented radishes. Forget how it smells--it tastes phenomenal. Banh mi looks simple, but it's really easy to screw up. Hanco's does it beautifully. The baguette is perfectly toasty and sturdy enough on the outside to hold all the goodness inside. The pickled veggies, jalapeno, cilantro were just the right ratio to "meat" and the tofu was very well marinated and tasty! It's so easy to make tofu bland, but this, my friend, was anything but bland. The original bubble tea was just OK. Don't come for the bubble tea--come for the sandwiches.

Yelp
Probably spoiled with the banh mi in 8th ave area, but their banh mi is only 5 dollars and with a whole lot of flavor as well. The classic at Hanco's has ground pork and is $8, which is not commonly found in other "#1's" in other banh mis. Although the grounded pork was flavorful and juicy, I would still prefer the typical ingredients you would find in the shops around 8th ave. That includes cucumber, more pate and meat, and a less messy filling. Haven't tried the pho here, but this area overall has pricier foods. The thai iced tea was pretty authentic imo!
