Some things have definitely changed at Hancock since my last review - the menu being one of them. They have chicken tenders now, which is a nice addition for those who prefer boneless chicken. You can still get a half or whole bird with sides, as well as several different sandwiches (they started with only one sandwich option) including pulled chicken, Korean chicken sandwich, a fried chicken wrap, fish sandwich, shrimp po'boy, even a vegan chicken sandwich.
At first glance, the menu seems cheap ($8-$9 for a sandwich) but once you start ordering sides, it can add up quickly. So if you want a chicken sandwich and fries, it will be at least $13, but that's in line with most places in town these days. Nate and I got a chicken sandwich, fries, shaved Brussels sprout salad with added tenders, and a couple boozy slushies while there recently. I was really impressed with the chicken - the tenders on my salad were amazing. Lightly crispy on the outside with perfectly juicy chicken inside. The hot level was dialed in - not burn your face off hot, with just a bit of lingering heat. This is basically their mild level so it was nice for a hot day. The sandwich was a classic with the same delicious tenders. I wasn't thrilled with the salad - it was a huge portion, definitely shareable for two people, but the dressing seemed super bland, and there were just a few tiny (like 1/4" dice) pieces of sweet potato and a couple pecans. I'd stick with the romaine salad next time.
I'm glad we stopped in and got to experience how Hancock has evolved over the years, and I'm looking forward to spending some more time on their shaded patio this summer. If you like fried chicken, this is a great spot to try!
