Australia Is Even Better After Dark—From Torchlit Tours and Open-air Theater to Rooftop Climbs Under the Stars

"Open-air opera productions staged over the water combine live theater with a cinematic setting—seating above the water, stars overhead and a city skyline backdrop—to create a magical, atmospheric nighttime cultural experience." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. It is a great place to see an opera with fantastic views of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. Go early and have a snack and a drink before the show. We were lucky this year as it didn't rain, but be prepared. Take something warm to wear as the breeze can be cool off the water. Take a cushion to sit on if you want. And a poncho in case it rains. Guys n Dolls was a great show, fabulous performers. Props and staging were also excellent.

Despite pouring with rain, performance still went on. Staff were helpful from shuttle driver picking us up and dropping us off between Domain carpark and venue to ticket checkers, ushers, food and drink staff, security. While not cheap, it was all worth it.

We recently attended a performance of *Guys and Dolls*. Unfortunately, the seats were quite uncomfortable, and the staff didn’t provide any guidance on dining options. When we finally ordered food, it was disappointing. While the musical itself was enjoyable, the highlight of the evening was definitely watching the performance under the stars at Sydney Harbour.

Great night watching Guys and Dolls on Sydney Harbour and the weather was perfect for the start of autumn. Had 3 course dinner before the show at the Platinum Lounge. Food and wine were delicious. Had seats off to the center left but still had a decent view. The complimentary bus back to Circular Quay after the show was welcomed.

Watch you don’t pick the cheapest seats up the back of sections A-C as these are under trees with bats (back 4-5 rows). 7.30pm in April was feeding time on the nuts directly above seats. Bats then poop on you. We had to move. (White shirt was green with splatter!) Show (Guys and Dolls) fantastic. Bats less so.

One of my favourite venues to watch musicals and performances thanks to the sheer scale of the stage and the endless amount of space the production gets to play with. Although the audio quality cannot beat the opera house, everything else is exceptional. Also, you can't beat that beautiful harbour view during the intermission or even before the show. Your experience here is sure to be a night to remember!!

I frequent the opera, Guys and Dolls was the most fun, I have ever seen on stage, laugh out loud with outstanding performances. If you have never been to an opera or worried you won't like it, this is the one you should see.

Watched the Guys and Dolls musical! The best loved musical of all time in the most spectacular backdrop!
