If you’re visiting KK and you don't stop by the Handicraft Market (or what the locals call the Pasar Filipina), are you even a tourist? This place is a total maze of treasures, and honestly, the vibe is just unmatched. It’s located right along the waterfront, so you get that salty sea breeze mixed with the smell of grilled seafood from next door.
The first thing that will hit you is the pearls. Walao, pearls everywhere! From cheap-and-cheerful RM10 bracelets to the high-end South Sea pearls that cost a bomb, they have it all. If you’re buying for your mak or aunties, this is the spot. But pro tip: you must haggle. If the seller says RM50, you try ask for RM30. It’s all part of the game!
Besides jewelry, they have bapak many "Sabah" souvenirs. Think colorful sarongs, hand-woven baskets (rattan style), wooden carvings, and those "I Love Sabah" t-shirts. If you want something unique, look for the Sompoton (traditional bamboo instrument) or the beaded necklaces from the local tribes.
The place can get a bit hot and stuffy because the ceiling is quite low and it’s packed with stalls, so don't wear your thickest hoodie ah. Also, keep an eye on your wallet—not because it's dangerous, but because you'll probably spend all your money on cute keychains!
Overall, 9/10 for the experience. It’s loud, it’s colorful, and it’s the best place to feel the "local heartbeat" of KK.
