Where to eat, drink and stay in Singapore for a concert

"A bikers’ haunt located near art enclaves and concert venues, suggested as a lively spot for drinks and socialising after shows, with an alfresco, clubby character." - Cassandra Lee

Google
Cool Bar, went and saw We The Kings there. It was a very hot day but inside the venue didn’t get bad until WTK took the stage. By then everyone was packed in tight and it was hot and sweaty! Didn’t stop any of us from dancing and singing along. The bier garden area was very unique and they offered free water there too, which was nice! I also LOVED that their bathrooms weren’t labeled with a gender, they instead were labeled “human”

Easily becoming our favorite spot for Live music in town!! The setting is far more intimate with bands and artists, and fosters a supportive music community!

This is such a fantastic venue, they always have something going on! I’ve been here twice now and both times the staff was friendly, order was maintained, the establishment, including the restrooms is very clean, and the bars are well stocked!

Google
Absolutely ridiculous experience. This line for drinks is crazy and they let whoever this is skip everyone like the rest of us don’t matter. Probably staff—either way, completely unprofessional. And to make it worse, he turns out to be some horrible, cringe hypeman who looked completely out of place and out of touch. I don’t care what he’s bankrolling—nobody came to see an old man drunkenly shouting nonsense on stage. It was awkward, embarrassing, and totally ruined the vibe.

I haven't been here in years. The place is modern and amazing. Plenty of seats, cold beverages and a nice stage. Plenty of room to relax and see a show.

Great atmosphere is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the Handlebar. The inside seating is like a completely different world from the outside seating area. The vibe here is cool and I will definitely be back to try more drinks. The only thing I didn’t like is that if you don’t know drink names or what to try, they don’t have a drink menu or recommendations. Everything else was awesome!

Google
Fun dive bar experience! Easy to get drinks and no bathroom lines. Saw Lucero there and it was very crowded so my only downside is that I was ridiculously hot. I wish they would've closed the doors and turned on the air. Otherwise great experience!

Yelp
First time at Handlebar last night to see an amazing show by American Aquarium. The only downside was the drunk people in the back who made constant racket during quiet parts of both shows. GO OUTSIDE if you want to talk and let the rest of us enjoy the show.

Yelp
Handlebar has a varied crowd depending on who's playing & type of music. I like they offer a variety of genres to appeal to different interests & age groups. We went recently to hear Eric Lindel & his band. Crowd ranged in age from 30s to 60s & were friendly, enthusiastic & lively. Like it's a smaller venue where you are close to the band & feel really connected to the band, music & audience. Seeing Eric Lindel there was fabulous! Place has a "casual industrial hip" style inside with a nice open courtyard on the side. Beer was cold, bartenders provided good, friendly service. Place is very clean. Bathrooms are as nice as a luxury hotel's. Handlebar doesn't have a kitchen but Sauce Burger food truck is outside. Still wish they had chips or something at the bar cause food truck closes several hours before bar does. Looking forward to another show or just to go have a beer.

Yelp
First impression was very impressive. As we entered for the night for an event, we enjoyed our selves and was having an excellent time. I was very comfortable at first noticing the vast members of LGBTQ community and the fact that the bar it self supports too. I notice that they have LGBTQ representation, pride flags, and even a gender neutral bathroom. So being a gay male I felt so comfortable in this environment, until one of the bar staff was so rude and screaming at my partner for just standing in line for the restroom. The man was so rude and cursed at him for simply standing in the wrong spot, legit standing in the wrong spot for the bathroom. Apparently there is an area that no one is supposed to stand at is next to the bar in which is right next to the bathroom area. So as my partner is confronted and told "Do you know how to fucking read? You need to move and was shooing him" my partner was trying to explain that he was waiting in line for the restroom. The man cut him off told him to "Quit running his fucking mouth or he will kick his ass out." This really disturbed my partner as he is the nicest and patient person I know. When I discover what he just experienced and upset I went to one of the Bar staff to report the incident. Me and other friend were told that this wasn't the first incident that happened tonight from the man. And the female bartender told us to tell my partner to come back and she give him around to make up for it. I totally understand that if I was her I truly wouldn't know what to do in that situation to make it better but the fact is that a shot or a round of anything is not going to change how poorly and disrespected my partner feels. I truly hope that prejudice is not a factor in this either. It's a possibility as we still live in a world with prejudice individuals. So maybe if the owners really need to hear this and maybe if they like having a good reputation with their community they need to evaluate how their staff treats others. Especially if there's occurring incidents like this. Lastly we will never be returning but we are warning others about this incident.

Yelp
Went there tonight for the Taylor Swift event, was having a great time until I had to use the restroom, and I noticed that both of the restrooms were in use, so naturally I wait.... about 2 whole minutes goes by as I am still standing there waiting; an employee, whom my assumption is a bar-back approaches me in a RUDE manner mouthing "Can you NOT READ? There is a sign there that says *DO NOT STAND HERE*" I am in shock because first of all why are you yelling at me like I have committed a crime... I respond "Clearly I can read, where else am I suppose to stand. The spot I was standing was no way in the way of anyone wanting to pass" he says "GET OUT, GET OUT don't get mouthy with me" ... keep in mind I am still in shock, I look around an no one is really being aware of whats going on; so I really have no witnesses of this man in my face yelling at me. At this point I am in tears because I paid money to come to this "Establishment" and had to be harassed all because I wanted to use the restroom. Not to mention I am a BLACK MALE. So I can EASILY say this was a race situation. I was not there alone but my friends who I were with were near the front at the stage area. So what I did was escape from the employee who kept yelling at me to leave, I told my friends I was leaving and I ran out before things escalated. I am not a person of confrontation but I felt VIOLATED. As soon as I walked out I cried like never before simply because I was so hurt and upset by what happened. It would have had to be you to feel the way I felt in that moment. Im not saying don't go here, because I truly was enjoying myself up until this point; but just be aware of your surroundings. There are evil people in this world.
