My wife and I dined in at Hanjan South on 99 Street on November 23. We completely enjoyed the food. I am a regular customer and many of my friends also eat here often. Hanjan has always been one of our comfort food spots for Korean dishes.
However, when we received our bill that day, it felt a little overpriced compared to the four items we ordered. We were out the entire day so we ignored it at the moment, but I asked for the receipt just in case.
Fast forward to Sunday, November 30. We came back to Hanjan because we wanted to get refunded. Earlier that day, I found the receipt in my wallet and finally checked it. That was when we noticed that we had been charged twice for the items we ordered on November 23.
When we arrived, the manager tried to process the refund but the system did not allow it. She offered to refund the amount in cash but changed her mind after. She then told me they would e transfer the money to me, but I would need to wait for their email and it would take a few business days before I receive it.
I mentioned that my mom also wanted something from Hanjan. The manager said she would take care of the food I was ordering, which was corn cheese and bulgogi fries, and that she would give me a gift card instead. I agreed since we love Hanjan.
After our agreement, I told her I would wait in the car with my wife and return to pick up the food. They took my number and said they would text me when it was ready. They said it would take ten minutes.
After thirty minutes with no text, I went back inside. The restaurant was not busy. When the manager saw me, she simply handed me the food and the gift card. That was when I realized that the food was actually charged to the gift card, which went against what I understood from our agreement.
I left feeling frustrated. First, we were overcharged. Second, we returned for a refund but they could not process it. Third, nothing was done to make the situation feel better from a customer service standpoint.
Despite this, we still plan to come back because we truly enjoy the food. I hope the customer service can be improved because Hanjan has always been our go to Korean comfort food spot.
