Hank’s is truly a wonderful restaurant that you should go back to often to try everything on the menu! The family who owns this restaurant has such history in Sonoma County and absolutely wonderful. Here’s what I have tried so far and each dish was phenomenal: Burrata, Meatballs, Ciotola di Gnocchi, Grandma Gina’s Gnocchi, and Calabrese Pizza. Grandma’s Gnocchi is an original family recipe so do try it. Melt in your mouth! The pizza dough has lots of love put into it via one of the owners and seriously, one of the best doughs around. The Calabrese salami is from the owner’s hometown in Italy. They either fly there to go get it or work with a vendor to get it for their pizza so this is a must try! I mustn’t forget the espresso martinis! 🍸 really good and they make it two ways, so you will have to try it both ways to find your preference! I’ll be back…often! 😋

In a word: disappointing. I read fantastic reviews and was very hopeful to find a new downtown staple. What I was served was far short of that which I’d hoped for. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked, the gnocchi was undercooked and burned, and the general feeling of the table was that of tasting your 13 year old cousin’s first home cooked meal: “nice, buddy!” before you ingest what can best be described as edible. From the service to the quality of the food, at best I can summarize it as not worth the >$100 we paid, especially when the best part of the experience was an imported bottle of wine. Summary: go on a Thursday, get a half-off bottle of wine, and then go across the breezeway for some enjoyable food.

Margarita pizza was 10/5! A wonderful start to our dinner. The cheese was amazing, and the crust was thin and crispy. Simple yet full of flavor! Chicken fettuccini was 2/5. It was super bland with no flavor whatsoever, and the chicken was dry. Would not recommend. Seafood pasta was 3/5. I really didn't like having sausage in this dish, though that might just be my personal preference. The salmon was also bland. The sauce was very tasty and the rest of the ingredients were nice. A glass of Sparkling Rosé was good but very dry ( it did say dry on the menu, I guess I just didn't expect it to be that dry ). Our server Mark was very friendly and attentive. He checked on us often. Seating was quick and the food came out in pretty much no time. Overall, stick to the pizza and you won't miss out. The rest of the food wasn't particularly outstanding in any way.

Such a friendly place. I was intrigued by the gorgeous wall behind the bar. Of course obviously it was a historic carving so I asked the owner. She is very friendly and proud of the work of art. It had been a part of a late 1800 hotel which was destroyed by choice by some city idiots. This piece was saved years ago. The food was exceptional. There were 4 of us and each got a separate dish. All were fantastic. You can't go wrong eating there!

Google
Thank you for taking such great care of us (51 people) for our son and daughter inlaws rehearsal dinner! The staff were amazing, along with all the wonderful food! From the selections of appetizers, salad, pizzas and the dessert! Not to forget the wines! You helped to make our event a special occasion!!! Forever grateful!

Google
The small salads are huge; they're enough as a meal. The calzones are also massive. Pasta is a much smaller portion in comparison. Bolognese was good but nothing to write home about. House made lemonade as also delicious.

Google
Had the Risotto and a dairy free Margarita Pizza! So good ..... I will definitely be back for more. Service was awesome and the ambience is perfect. Wood fired pizza oven who could ask for more.... amazing Italian Wines 🍷and Prosecco 🥂 yep nailed it. Enjoy!

We loved Hank’s. We visited it on New Years Day when quite a few restaurants in Downtown Petaluma were closed, and were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant serving the community. Everything was stellar—the warm customer service, the dishes that we ordered(Atlantic Salmon and a clam based dish both hit the spot), the wine and lemonade were great, and the welcoming vibe inside. They’ve an extensive lunch menu that they serve from until 4pm, we wanted to try all the seemingly scrumptious dishes in that menu. Their bar looked quite fancy too. The server serving the food kept checking in on us regularly to see how everything was. They’ve restrooms in the back. We will be back here soon to try the desserts and other dishes. Thank you!

Yelp
Delicious food! Service was excellent. Not pricey for what you get. We were visiting Petaluma and hadn't been to Hanks before. We were very pleased.!!

Yelp
So Hank's is a charming little Italian spot located in the theater Square section of Petaluma 's downtown. We love the casual, yet slightly upscale ambience. Frankly, the service can range from mediocre/acceptable to great. I prefer great, but once in a while, I will tolerate mediocre/acceptable, because literally we are in love with their meatballs and salads. Let me rephrase that we are in love with their meatballs, and our two year-old grandson thinks their meatballs are the best thing he's ever eaten ;) - so needless to say we go there quite a bit. All of their salads are fresh and delicious. They have a wonderful salmon dish that we love and we also enjoy their pizzas in the occasional pasta. We have had nothing but positive food (& wine!) experiences. Last time we were there, we ate outside, and it was great because our grandson could run over to the fountain (the property owners have partnered with a local artist who had clay faces installed all around the base of the big fountain); our little rambunctious toddler just thinks it's the best thing ever to go and point out "Clo" the famous Clover Cow's face, which happens to face Hank's restaurant. GO - something for everyone and definitely a nice Petaluma place to please a crowd with different tastes! 5-stars

Yelp
Went to Hanks with my wife and son for my birthday dinner.. very professional waiter took care of us.. entrée and appetizers were excellent. Looking forward to going back soon.

Yelp
Consistency yummy! The meatballs are always a solid choice, the salads are fresh and delicious, the pizza always hot with very nice ingredients. Cute spot, great location, it's easy to see why they're always busy.

Yelp
We had the best experience at Hanks! Party of 8 and we tried lots of different items; Risotto balls, meatballs, 2 pizzas, the harvest salad, three pasta dishes and chicken masala. Everything was delicious. We ordered lots of drinks. I didn't love my Como Spritz, but someone else at table did so it worked out. The total bill was about $60 per person with drinks. Not bad at all. Our server was present, but not overly attentive. I'll be back again when I'm in Petaluma

Yelp
Always have a great experience here. The pizzas are terrific. The service is great. I highly recommend Hank's

Yelp
My sister and soon to be brother-in-law took me and my toddler daughter here for my birthday dinner bc I saw a photo on either Instagram or Facebook of their gnocchi appetizer. It's like a bread bowl (bread stick bread not French bread) with gnocchi red sauce and globs of cheese with fresh basil. I ended up getting a meal of appetizers bc I wanted them all My sister and STBBIL got pizzas and my daughter shared everyone's food. It was all amazing. Our sever was very nice and professional. He gave my daughter a coloring page a crayons. We sat on the patio that had heaters, they weren't on but weren't needed until we were ready to leave. The patio had a fence around it and was in the heart of that little shopping area so the people watching was good and it had that downtown city energy feel even though you are by the River in Petaluma. The only downside was the drinks. I just wasn't a fan of their signature drinks but I didn't say anything, if I did I'm sure they would have given me something else. I definitely recommend this place for Italian food especially that gnocchi thing I'm not even sure what's it's called but the waiter knew as soon as I asked out it. I will definitely be back here.

Yelp
Good place for a pizza and beer kinda place. Good selections of other stuffs like pasta, salad and appetizers. And my husband was happy with all the local beer selections. Friendly and fast service. Nice outdoor seating too!

Yelp
Pizza is the stand out item Nice wine list and prompt service. I've been here a few times now and I'll say it's one of the better pizzas in town, especially if you go in for the Neapolitan thin crust style. The crust is crispy light and flavorful. Only a few topping of high quality. They do pies right here, however there is no build your own menu option. I ordered a special last night and was disappointed. It was described as a Chicken Parm served with a carbonara style pasta. What I got was an entree size serving of carbonara with a small chicken Parm breast on top. Now don't get me wrong, it was delicious. It was just not what I expected. I ordered chicken Parm because I wanted chicken, not a bowl of pasta with some chicken. The chicken was excellent though. Well seasoned, moist inside and very crispy outside, melted gooey cheese on top. I could have easily eaten 2 of those chicken breasts. But for $29 I was left wanting for a classic chicken Parm. No disrespect to this dish. I just recommend a more accurate description on the menu, or perhaps a more accurate name. The beet salad had nice fresh ingredients but was overly dressed and the beets were not flavorful. Bummed. They have lots of heaters for outdoor dining on chilly Petaluma evenings. Inside is clean, modem, and low lit. I've not ordered Togo from these guys yet, because I suspect this style pizza would not be nearly as good after it sat in a box for 30 mins. This pizza should be enjoyed hot and fresh out of the oven.

Yelp
Two days in a row - both at my new favorite table. Thursday - Mark as the server Just me. A glass of water, a whole oven-roasted artichoke to myself, And ate half of the Fig and Pancetta pizza. Amazingly fast, extremely good. Friday - Mira as the server My bride joined me. Water for me and a glass of rose for her. We split everything: * Brussels sprouts. roasted Brussels sprouts with pancetta, pecorino toscano & lemon. A tad to firm for my taste. Right on the money for my wife. * the small Caesar salad - I take all the anchovies, my wife takes all the croutons. Happy sharing! * the main was a special - Lasagna like Mama made - was just the right size for us to split and still leave room for dessert. We ate everything but the plate! * the dessert was Zeppoli with salted Caramel Gelato - my bride liked. For me I was thinking the fried dough would be thin and light like my Nonnie made. But it was more like a double thick cookie. My wife loved it. Great to talk to owner, front of the house manager, and part-time chef Katie and get a hello by name by her son Coby. I really like the direction that the menu has taken. I'm no expert but I'm guessing that the roasted veg part of the menu is close to unique for Petaluma. My son, DIL and DDG showed up on Wednesday to carry the cooking load for Thanksgiving and we ordered take out of Hanks. Another hit! Everyone has their favorite pizza place. This is mine...!

Yelp
This was a solid, yummy patio meal on a night ushering in autumn! We had a hankering for pizza, but wanted a little more of an intimate setting , so Hank's was the answer! We were seated quickly and attended to all evening by a great server. He was super friendly had excellent wine and apps suggestions. We had a delish beet salad, meatballs and the iron brick cheese (scrumptious!), and then munched a fig and prosciutto pizza. Oddly enough we were too full for dessert, but we had plenty of wine! Definitely a place to return next time we are in Petaluma!

Yelp
We've popped into Hank's a couple times after consuming too much wine and craving a greasy pizza to help soak up the alcohol, and the pizza is really good, thanks in part to their wood-fired oven! We've tried a couple pies and they were great. The dough has a light char to it and you can definitely taste the smokiness of the wood fire, a huge plus in our book! The Calabrese and Meat pies are really good. Is it the best pizza in Petaluma? Probably not - but it's very very good, and certainly hits the spot after a night of drinking. The wine list is pretty basic and there are far better options across the way, but it looked very reasonably priced. Service has always been stellar - whether we sit at the bar or at a table, our servers have always been awesome! We always feel bad strolling into a restaurant 20-30 minutes before closing but we have never been refused service or made to feel anything other than welcome! One of these days, we'll try some of the other food too, but if you're in the area and looking for pizza, Hank's is a great option!

Monica B.

Yelp
The food is really good, upscale dinner experience in a causal setting. Service has always been spot on!
google avatar

Ibrahiem M.

Yelp
Piper was a very nice server and checked on us often, seating was quick and food wait time was decent as everything came out hot and fresh, the biggest problem is that the Margherita Pizza is too watery and the dough had been seeped throught by watery tomato sauce, calamari was great, eggplant and gnocchi were filling and ok.
google avatar

Marna K.

Yelp
A great spot for a variety of italian food. Our group enjoyed the pizza and the Spring flatbread was great. I also enjoyed the chopped salad and saw several other items that looked good.

Joe R.

Yelp
We were in town for a football game stopped at Hank's for dinner before heading home. We found it on Yelp. Wow, this was quite a find. This atmosphere and lighting were classy and comforting. The staff was helpful and attentive, and the food was amazing! I had Salmon, which was cooked perfectly and seemed to be covered in creme or butter. We also had the garlic broccoli spears, which were a recommendation from our waiter. Very good. My son had an oven baked chicken pizza and my wife had a delicious pasta dish. The star of the night was the signature "Hanks" Root Beer, which was the best root beer we ever tasted. If we are ever back in Petaluma, we will be sure to stop at Hanks again. Also, as an added bonus the nearby downtown parking garage was free.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good. Atmosphere and service is average. The food is fairly good. Not a super exciting menu with little more than basics but they do the basics well enough. Nothing stands out though. Wine list is limited. Mostly Italian wines. If you are like me and prefer the California wine style nothing really is offered. Overall solid restaurant. Nothing is great or stands out though.

Yelp
We experienced Hanks for the first time, during their pop-up at Nicasio pumpkin patch farm. We were not very hungry, so we just shared a margarita pie between the three of us. Our teen enjoyed the best root beer he's ever had which also had their label on it. I'm guessing they produced the root beer and also the vanilla cream soda as well. My husband had a Pilsner and I had a glass of Prosecco. The service was so friendly and warm. I got a feeling they were the owners. The pizza was up in the top pizzas I've ever had in my life: any pizza in Positano or Rome Italy, Tony's Pizza in San Francisco, John's Pizza in New York City, the pizza place on Noriega in San Francisco and now Hanks Petaluma. The actual pizza oven was very decorative and was carefully selected in Napa. Their pop-up was very well organized and extremely clean. I was able to easily locate mini packages of red pepper flakes, Parmesan, and also a easy to navigate napkin dispenser. We will definitely look forward to lunch at the pumpkin patch next year and also if we are driving through Petaluma.

Yelp
I relied on the happy hour and pizza menu and wine list but on occasion ventured into the entre side of the menu. I recently visited Hanks and again enjoyed my meal, interiors, and location. I was lucky to find a parking spot right in front and a very nice booth at the front of the restaurant. The interior looks the same except for one fabulous addition. The owners found a century-old oak bar backdrop that adds warmth and character to the restaurant. It was just being installed and the mirrors, canopy, and final details still needing to be added. I ordered off the Specials menu to dine on perfectly prepared Petrali Sole. It was perfectly prepared with a caper and tomato jue and served with Pesto Mashed and a generous portion of seasonal veg. I enjoyed the unusual combination but my tummy said otherwise. I would order again. My friend ordered Chicken Marsala from the Special menu. It was another winner with perfectly prepared chicken, delicate wine and mushroom sauce plus fresh Polenta. My neighbors pizza looked good as well. Hanks is still good for happy hour pizza, a leisure patio dinner and seasonal favorites like tomatoes! The only thing lacking is seasonal desserts! LOL

Michele S.

Yelp
I had the best experience at Hanks! The White Clam pizza is ridiculously good Just try it Katie was so gracious and wonderful I can't say enough good things about this place except please go and try it! I'll be back for sure
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent excellent pizza's. Ordered Koburrata and the shredded chicken pizza. 5/5. Service was okay.

Yelp
Hank's is a great restaurant in downtown Petaluma in Theater District. From the moment you walk into their doors, you'll be greeted with a warm welcome and some big smiles. The staff is very friendly and the service is always wonderful. There is seating located inside and at the bar and they also have an expansive patio with plenty of outdoor seating. The menu ranges from salads to main entrees (pastas, salmon, chicken, etc.) to wood fired pizzas and they have Italian wines. I've had one of their seasonal wood fired pizzas before and it was absolutely delicious! During my last visit I tried the mushroom risotto and it was amazing! There were so many mushrooms. I also had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was very yummy too and was loaded with fresh berries. They believe in offering fresh ingredients from Sonoma County and it shows through their food and flavors. I look forward to my next visit to try another new dish!
google avatar

Jessyca O.

Yelp
Driving through, decided to stop for some pizza, ordered Cesar salad, followed by clam pizza. My boyfriend had a beer, I had their Chardonnay. The clam pizza was killer. Highly recommend. Great service. A little quiet but again it was a Monday lunch service. Also killer playlist on in the background.
google avatar

Cynthia A.

Yelp
Food - Grwat! Service - Fantastic! Amhiance - on point! We had the meat pie with no salami and extra pepperoni. We also has the Blueberry Salad, which was a large portion and delicious. Our server was great. She had a welcoming smile. We sat by the back entry, and we asked to close the door because it wAs getting chilly. It was not a problem at all. I recommmend this place to anyone visiting downtown Petaluma.
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
Recently graduated from college and was looking for a place in Petaluma that would allow for big party reservations and I stumbled across Hank's. I had never been there before but always passed by and was really curious. The service automatically was amazing. They were super accommodating to our big party and I could not have asked for a better server day of! Even when the number of our reservation changed a couple times they were very understanding. Every person ( there was 25 of us) raved about the food, drinks, and service. Really glad I ended up going with Hank's to celebrate! Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Kirk J.

Yelp
Oh so tasty. A recommendation from a local at the tasting room. Had the brick cheese pesto app and split a pizza. So amazing. Can't say enough good things about it!
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
We love Hanks. Typically I recommend sitting outside but on the nights that it's just too wet or cold, definitely plan on calling ahead of time To make a reservation because they're smalland their tables fill up fast. That being said, their tables fill up fast for a reason. The food is really Good. It feels like classy versions of comfort food with plates like gnocchi that's cripsy on the outside and soft on the inside like fluffy little pillows of goodness- served with brow butter sauce, fresh peas and prosciutto. If you're in a sharing mood, order pizza and something from the wine list which prominently features Italian wines like Chianti and Nebbiolo. Finally, for dessert, definitely order the creme brulee. The custard is silky and the bruleed sugar topping has the perfect mouth of smokey caramelization and crackle.

Tim C.

Yelp
This is one of the best little restaurants in Petaluma. The food is A+, the wait staff is friendly and attentive. It's a great menu with lots of options. Everything is fresh. It's one of our favorite places.
google avatar

Robin S.

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim and ended up having some of the best pizza we've ever had. Holy goodness. Excellent food, delicious wine, beautiful atmosphere, and great service. We will be back for sure.
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
One trip for a quick takeout dinner but it was exactly what I was hoping for! Ordered the salmon which was pretty tasty, but probably would want to test out the pizza or calzone next time after watching a few come out to other tables around. Super brief service experience since I ordered my meal to go, but it truly highlighted how friendly the staff is. Looking forward to another trip to dine there.

KG M.

Yelp
The food does not justify $30 entrees. We've repeatedly tried to like Hank's, but the service and food is mediocre at best. There are better restaurants and service elsewhere downtown!
google avatar

Samuel W.

Yelp
Hank's was the first time I had Gnocchi and set an incredibly high bar for my gnocchi expectations in the future. Very impressive! My date loved her salmon and how understanding the wait staff was with her food sensitivities. Never had lemon on an artichoke before? You should. I will definitely return.

Logan F.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Cold beer. Friendly staff. What more could you ask for? My only beef was that the dressing on the Caesar salad is super fishy. My wife couldn't eat it because it was so intense so she gave it to me. I like fish and it was still pretty strong to me. Otherwise, awesome stuff. I could eat appetizers all day here.
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
Terrible.... You have better luck at little ceasers with the pizza. Over priced for child size portions. The place was dead and they still couldn't get our food to us on time. The man who supposedly runs the place is a total creep. I was unhappy with food and service. He refused to refund my money as he touched my pizza with his bare hands poking the crust. He told me he would not refund my money and that his hands were sanitary, which I don't know how that's possible when he just opened the door to come out and was touching the countertop and then proceeded to touch my food. I wanted a refund he told me no And still charged me $70 for food that I didn't eat. It was the worst experience and I say steer clear of this place go anywhere else but to Hanks. The guy is a total rip off and they took my money and my mother's money and didn't give us our product. He should be reported to the Better Business Bureau.
google avatar

Jenna C.

Yelp
Cute patio and great food we ordered the calamari and the shredded chicken pizza! Defiently will return!
google avatar

Maddie R.

Yelp
The food and service were great. I got the salmon w/ mashed potatoes and that and the cozy atmosphere were just what I needed after a long day of traveling. I also left my corporate card there and left town the next day, and the manager Katie actually went to the trouble of mailing it to me. Can't thank you guys enough.

Kevin M.

Yelp
Hanks is my go to restaurant. There are so many good spots in Petaluma but I keep coming back to Hanks. You can't go wrong. We go for quiet dates and we go with the big group on their patio. Love their calzone's.
google avatar

MJ L.

Yelp
Came here for mothers day and had a lovely time. The pizza was really good and flavorful and I also shared the calzone which was really good too. I definitely want to come back and try some of the other items, I saw a pasta dish that looked great so will be coming back and trying some other items. The pizza I ordered has peperoni, sausage, red sauce and cheese, classic and delicious!

Katie O.

Yelp
used to like Hanks. Not anymore. Food quality and service got so much worse ! They forget about your orders, then bring cold food and a check at the same time. not worth it. At this point Hanks is the worst restaurant in it's price range. Sad.

T N.

Yelp
The food and service was great! However, saw something disgusting by one of the workers. She was clearing a 6 top table that was left fairly messy by kids. Instead of starting with wiping down the table first she grabbed a rag and wiped down the butt part of the 2 high chairs then instead of grabbing a new rag she proceeded to use the same rag she just used to clean the butt part of the seat and cleaned the table off...where food is placed! So disgusting!!! If anyone is a parent you know leakage and blowouts are a thing. Really wish I hadn't seen that. If that's how they clean in front of customers imagine what goes on behind the scenes!
google avatar

sarah b.

Yelp
Amazing pizza. Some of the best in Petaluma. They're currently doing delivery in-house if you call and place the order. Specifically, I recommend the mushroom pizza, any of the specials (using seasonal ingredients), meat pizza, and their pesto sauce. So glad we discovered Hank's!

Just Another Diner A.

Yelp
Dear Hank's, FYI when you offer me short ribs (lunch, $$$37.00), I expect to receive short ribs, not chuck roast that has been cut into small pieces. Your customers know the difference. The plate was nice, the vegetables were perfect, and the music was fun.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Offbeat but delicious pizzas; attentive, friendly service; warm and comforting atmosphere. The new Kokobuffata (or thereabouts) pizza was unique tasting, unique looking, satisfying, I liked the pizza that has pears (!) on it, and the bread pudding was a rich, tasty dessert.
google avatar

Bob H.

Yelp
Food was ok, I had a calzone that was just average sized and a root beer. The ambiance is fine, nothing spectacular. The service was excellent but I was surprised how few people were there during the lunch hour. The main reason I'll never go back was the prices. The calzone and root beer and final additional charges came to $35, way too much in my opinion.

La Rae K.

Yelp
We love the waitstaff and the owner Katie. Everyone greets us with a smile. The service is great! and the food is excellent! The best part is that it is reasonably priced!! The seasonal soups and salads are always wonderful and so are the Appetizers, Pizzas, Pastas and Main Dishes. The desserts are to die for! It is rustic Italian. I am Italian and I feel at home at Hank's.

Dana S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing happy hour and dinner menu! If you have not been to hanks, you need to go! It's casual yet classy, and the service is always personal and attentive. Hanks is my families go to restaurant!
google avatar

C C.

Yelp
The service and food are good... the flies everywhere, not so good. If you eat here make sure to order dishes that you can eat with one hand because there are flies covering the windows, flying around the tables, landing on tables... pretty much everywhere, so you will need one hand in constant motion shooing away flies. I mentioned this to the waitress and she responded that it was because the doors are open and this is why flies are able to get in. So... Close. The. Doors. The food is good, so I recommend taking it to go and then having a picnic at the local dump, in a field of manure, or in a barn because there will be many less flies in those locations. (Avoid anything that has raisins in it because, well, those might not actually be raisins...just saying).

Claire R.

Yelp
Went in there and told them that we were on a short timeframe and could they possibly take care of us as there was no customers in the restaurant. I did review over the menu with the waitress what was the quickest possible way she told her she could get us a pizza in 15 minutes, salads and soup . weordered bruschetta and a small pizza and a glass of wine. Half hour later and all the other customers who came in after us had been served and we were still waiting for our food . we requested our pizza to go, and it came to us uncooked and of course, without all the ingredients all of this cost me $70. Of course they would not make an exception to the rule on the Pizza. We were willing to pay for the rest of it. They don't work this way. They don't care if their food is unsatisfactory they don't care if their service is unsatisfactory would not recommend this place to anybody. We were rip off! There are many other restaurants to go to in the same neighborhood.
