Hanmer Backpackers

A very nice accommodation. We enjoy the stay very much. The owner, a dutchman, was very friendly. A very good place to stay. We recommendate this place to everyone who like a budget hostel bob and marianne

With most of the hitherto small and cozy hostels sadly gone, Hanmer Backpackers is one of the few exception. Small and beautiful, under competent ownership and management of Yoko and Tristan. The location is perfect, with shops and thermal pools very near as well as walks in Hanmer forest. And if you have the stomach for it (literally!), Tristan can take you on a four wheel drive tour through some scenery that seems not of this world.

This accommodation feels more like a cozy cabin with individual rooms. Yoko was incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating throughout our stay. The room was a great size for our small family, with a walk-in wardrobe that made it easy to store our luggage and belongings. The shared kitchen and dining area, located just off the hallway, was well-equipped with all the basics needed for cooking. There are two spacious and easily accessible toilet/shower rooms, which was very convenient. While there’s no TV, we really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and chat with other travelers—it added a warm, communal vibe to the experience. Downside was the pillows, which were quite thin and could use replacing for better comfort.

I had a wonderful stay here, it's a tiny but very cozy and warm place! The hosts are hardworking, always keeping the environment clean. They also shared so many fun stories about Hanmer. I would call it a relaxing and refreshing journey.✨

Such a nice Hostel, was only here for 1 night but it was definitely one of my favourites. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful but a special shout-out has to go to Tristan who went out of his way to find, and post abroad, a fishing rod I had left behind on the outskirts of the town. He was an absolute lifesaver and went above and beyond the typical expectations of a hostel host. You have to go to the hot springs for sunset too, very peaceful.

Very cute log cabin vibe! Our compact room was affordable and perfect for what we needed! The owner was welcoming and overall we enjoyed our stay😊

We were here for 3 Nights and already had a lovely welcome by the check in. Both hosts were always up for a chat and recommended us the best things you can do around hammer Springs. Also the kitchen and bathrooms were always spotless and the hostel is in walking distance to the Main Street. We would definitely visit you guys again ! :)

Excellent hostel. May be a favorite of mine. Independently owned, log cabin feel, warmth from an active fireplace, spacious room. All top notch. Highly recommend.
