Hann River Roadhouse

We stayed two nights in the family room at Hann River Roadhouse and had a fantastic experience. The staff were outstanding—genuinely helpful and incredibly friendly. The food was delicious and reasonably priced, with plenty of options to satisfy everyone.||One of the highlights was the variety of animals around the property, which added a fun and unique touch. The playground was a huge hit with our 3.5-year-old, keeping them happily entertained for hours. It’s a great spot for families looking to relax while the kids burn off energy.||P.S. The goats are seriously cool.

Hann River Roadhouse is one of those classic outback stops that feels like it’s truly in the middle of nowhere, making it a welcome break on the long drive through Cape York. While it has the basics—fuel, food, and accommodation—it’s more about convenience than comfort. The meals are simple and filling, though not particularly memorable, and the rooms are a bit dated, showing their age. In years past, this roadhouse was well-known for the wildlife often spotted around the area, but these days you may not see as many animals as before, which takes away a little of its charm. That said, the atmosphere is still quintessentially outback, and the staff are used to catering to travellers making the long trek north. Overall, Hann River Roadhouse isn’t a destination in itself but serves its purpose as a practical stop for fuel, a meal, or an overnight rest when you’re on the long road to Cape York.

Our favourite spot on way to cape, stayed here on way up and back. The best staff, friendly, welcoming. Food was fresh and tasty, atmosphere of sitting outside with a drink and eating was fantastic.

Not to sure where to start. We broke down 21km north of Hann River at 6.30pm. We were relying on the Bush Telegraph to assist us. Rob from Hann River got the message and came to assist. We spent the weekend at the Roadhouse while we waited for another tow. We could not have picked a better place to break down the Roadhouse is amazing, all the staff, Rob and Renee made us feel welcome, oh and let's not forget the pool (Winning). The property is amazing. Thank you.

Great friendly service upon check in, huge camping area, clean, hot shower facilities. Food and drinks for purchase. Highly recommend.

Food is amazing, service is great, run by a great couple. AmaIng facilities, Will always be back there in a heart beat. Feels like home.

Great for families! Playground, pool and farm animals. Kids loved it, owners and staff friendly. If we ever do the Cape again, this will be on the list for sure!
