Best things to do in Hanoi, from hip to historical - SilverKris

"A guided food-and-market experience that typically includes walking, biking or scooting through busy markets to pick ingredients, then learning to cook classic Vietnamese dishes under the instruction of a local expert, finishing with a communal meal and often a takeaway recipe sheet." - James Wong

Our street food tour in Hanoi was an absolute highlight of our trip, and it was all thanks to our amazing guide, Tina Tau! From start to finish, she took us to fantastic, authentic places that we would have never discovered on our own. The food was incredible, diverse, delicious, and a true taste of local Hanoi. Tina is such a cheerful, friendly, and kind person. She created a wonderful atmosphere within the group right away, relaxed, fun, and full of positive energy. We laughed together many times, which made the whole experience even more special. You can really feel her passion and love for what she does. It was a truly lovely day, full of great food, laughter, and unforgettable moments. We highly recommend this tour, and if you’re lucky enough to have Tina Tau as your guide, you’re guaranteed an amazing experience!

We took this tour with Tina who was a very friendly and engaging guide. She provided lots of information, not only about the food, but also about Vietnamese culture. I recommend taking a tour with Tina. That said, the quality of the food on the tour doesn’t reflect the best available. It’s a good way to learn about the foods available, but having eaten the same foods elsewhere I realize that much better quality versions are available. Finishing the tour on train street is a nice touch though and although it was very busy meaning everyone had to stand as the train passed it was nice to experience.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Hanoi! With so many options in the city, it can feel overwhelming to decide where to go, but this experience takes you to the very best local spots and lets you try all the must-eat dishes in Hanoi. Our guide, Elena, was wonderful — not just a guide but someone who made the entire tour fun and memorable. I’m so happy we had her with us! Just a tip: the tour includes 8 dishes in total, so make sure to come with an empty stomach!

Wonderfull street food tour. You can book either group tour or private tour. The guide, Elena, was very knowledgable, spoke excellent english and explained in detail about the Hanoian culinary traditions. The food we ate was all excellent, in most of the shops were no other tourists and we ate at the local market too, directly on the street with other locals. My absolute favorite was Bun Cha and the handmade puristic coconut icecream with super fresh mango (best desert I had in Vietnam).

This was a amazing experience, seeing and learning all the history and food history of Vietnam and Hanoi. Tina is extremely knowledgeable and incredibly welcoming, she walked us through the day showing us so many things we would not have seen nor found on our own as tourists in this beautiful country as it can be very overwhelming. Tina definitely made this experience tip tier and she gave extra advice for places and things to see in our next destination whist in Vietnam.

We did the hanoi street food tour with our guide, Apple. She was amazing. Very informative and friendly to talk to and with a sense of humor. We tried 7 different varieties of food (8 if you count the beer) at different locations, all of them were great. It was a great way to be introduced to Hanoi's food scene and culture. I'll definitely be recommending it to others who go to Hanoi. Thank you :)

Three of us went on this tour with guide nicknamed Apple and all of us agreed it has been the highlight of our stay in Hanoi. I was a bit skeptical at first of what a guide can show us that we have not seen ourselves in the 4 days we’ve spent in Hanoi already. I was so wrong! We walked by the same stalls on the street every day while in Hanoi but with her guidance we were now truly seeing them for what they were offering. Apple was very knowledgeable in a very easy, natural way. Funny, kind, patient and very protective of us crossing the street :) Besides the focus on food, she showed us a little bit of history and shared some insights on local customs. Thanks to Apple, I’m now seeing Hanoi with new eyes. If you have any hesitation whether to book this tour - don’t. I promise you won’t regret it!
