I brought my own picnic lunch from Trader Joe's (located in Agoura Hills, off the Route 101 freeway) and ate lunch on the picnic table in a pleasant park of the Hans Christian Andersen.

This is an excellent Park to come on your own to come picnic with your significant other or your family and kids. They have many tables and multiple picnic areas at this park. Not to mention they have a skate park for the kids and there's picnic tables right next to the skatepark.. They have multiple Santa Maria style barbecue grills. This park can accommodate small to large groups skatepark for the kids, a jungle gym for the toddlers

Nice open space, and a very quiet escape from the busy areas. The skate park looked fantastic.

Google
Cute park in Solvang. It's walkable from the main part of town, but once you get inside there's a few hills you'll need to tackle. Good playground for the little ones with plenty of shaded areas to have a picnic. There is also a skate park inside. You can definitely drive in, there plenty of parking and it's free to enter

Google
Lovely wild open space in northern Solvang. Tucked away in the residential neighborhood, it has a playground, lots of picnic areas, trails amidst river bed and oak tree groves.

Yelp
Huge grassy park, big trees with lots of shade, playground, creek, bridge, and most importantly... pickleball courts! Such a nice setting to play pickleball in, surrounded by greenery, trees, and wildlife.

Yelp
When we were visiting solvang, with the toddlers, we decided to pop into the park nearby and let them burn off some energy and play. We decided to walk to the park, since it wasn't very far from the main area of solvang, and were greeted by castle like entrance! I was immediately intrigued by this and was really looking forward to how the rest of the park was going to look. Despite the name, it was not a very fairytale filled park. It was quite the hike to get to the playground, and the playground itself was just that, no frills or special effects. I thought it might be themed to some of the stories by him! But still, it's a nice park, with lots of hiking trails, a playground and even an skatepark!

Yelp
Very cool park. I love the entrance. The park is beautifully maintained and has character and charm just like the rest of the town. It's a bit secluded away from the main road, so it's a good place for families to unwind away from the downtown festivities. It is off of Atterdag Road in a residential neighborhood.

Yelp
I always enjoy a great hike. This is a great hiking spot when you are in the area. The trails range from beginner to moderate and is great to bring your four legged family. It is also a great spot to spend the day just relaxing with the family.

Yelp
This park is named after the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The entrance into the park resembled a mini castle and a bridge which was pretty cool. There is a long driveway into the park that leads to a skate park, hiking trails, tennis courts, and a playground. There are a lot of parking lots and restrooms throughout the park. It's a peaceful park with a lot of space for a variety of activities and is close to the town of Solvang.

Yelp
Pickle ball courts, tennis courts, hiking, skate park, play structure, plenty of shade trees, picnic tables galore and rentable areas! Can't ask for a better little park! The hike is a circle and can take an hour if you stretch it with watching the lizards, quail and squirrels! It is hilly but just enough to make it seem you are away in nature rather than a park enclosed by houses and businesses. We will definitely return!

Yelp
This is an old park near downtown Solvang is in serious need of a make-over. It has a newer skateboard park and tennis courts as well as a dirt running trail. Multiple restrooms are fine for a park. You can see deer here. It needs a park interior decorator--it just did not feel welcoming or invigorating to be here. Would help to start by paving a cement walking trail around/through the park. Maybe build a little amphitheater for concerts? Pipe some music around he park--make it more like Disneyland.

Yelp
Beautiful park in downtown. They have tables to eat at and public bathrooms. A nice green space to relax in.

Yelp
This is a gem of public park. 1) It has a slam but sensational skate park (per kids who skateboard, not me) 2) There are great grill areas and even large ones (only accessible if you rent them) 3) There are 4 nice tennis courts 4) There are two pickleball courts 5) There are wonderful kids playground areas It is really a gem and I am almost reluctant to share it publicly.

Yelp
A great park for kids with areas set aside for them and plenty of hiking trails and even horse back riding. You can also bring your board with an included skate park. It's very close to Solvang itself, but bring your sneakers or boots if you plan on taking a hike. I've heard you can see wildlife here. Lots of picnic tables and trees for shade. I'll have to come back later to do some hiking. Location: Right outside Solvang with best entrance via Atterdag Road. Can't miss this entrance as it has a castle-like entrance over the main road. I'm sure there are other smaller entrances around the park ( Found a small one in a neighborhood of houses) that lead from the various hiking trails in the park. But the best way in is through Atterdag that leads you straight back into Mission Street (Solvang).

Yelp
Was on a short vacation and heard there was open play PICKLEBALL next to the tennis courts Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 9-11am. Sure enough, a small group of about 12-15 folks were there and I was welcomed with open arms (and paddles). Nice to have dedicated courts built for Pickleball and not shoe-horned onto a tennis court. You put your paddle down and get matched up with different players. Level was beginner to Intermediate and it seemed to skew on the older side with some exceptions. Great to get some exercise in between the wine and food orgy we indulged in.

Yelp
So friendly and professional Pickball people Interesting place So green, so nice Turn was respectful

Yelp
We happened to be visiting Solvang and found this park on Yelp. We like to take our dog to different locations to walk. This park had nice facilities like tennis courts, bathrooms, and play structures for kids. The trail can be walked in different ways, through the small hill along the grass with large trees providing lots of shade or the cement path. There were some areas that looked like construction was taking place, however it wasn't too bad walking around those areas. We easily walked to the park from the main street in Solvang, however you could drive in and there seemed to be lots of parking available for free. We enjoyed our walk and would probably come back again in the future.

Yelp
Really large park and so unexpected. There's a kids playground down the road, lots of grass and tables, restrooms, a skate park and probably hiking, but we got here late so will check that out later.

Yelp
Spent the last week playing tennis here. Park has four public tennis courts and two public pickle ball courts. All the courts are in great condition and every time we've come to play there's been at least one tennis court open. There are trails around the park and areas to picnic with seating. There is also a nice skatepark here. My only qualm is that at 7:30pm they lock the gates to the park and I think that's pretty early certain times of the year. I'd recommend this place to any tennis or pickle ball player for sure.

Yelp
This is a very relaxing park. Great place to unwind after shopping. Great place to just sit and eat Danish pastries. Lots of grass for frisbee. I will never forget the weekend I was here during the greyhound dog convention and all the dogs ascended on this park. Quite the sight.

Yelp
We came on a Thursday morning and it was empty. It truly is a park to play in if you have kids. There's even a skate park within it as well as a bike path. Not sure where the bike path leads to as it didn't seem that large. It's off the main road and easy to pass by if you speed (yikes). The road will lead you to different alcoves of the park. Great for all kinds of events, but small and quaint. I don't know if there are any wildlife around as it is surrounded by lots of trees. The park is pretty contained and since it was empty, we just drove through.

Yelp
Awesome park there is so much to do here. This place is great for BBQs for large party's or to just take your kids for the day. There is two different parking lots from what I have seen. Enter through the castle towers! There are walking and hiking trails, and there is even a really cool skatepark. The skatepark is really nice! Lots of hips and many nice transition lines. This park is so awesome for kids any age. Bring your toys and play on!!!

Yelp
It took us a while to figure out how to get to the park. First we tried to get there from Mission. Yes, you can walk in through a tiny gate, but you have to walk along the busy road. The best way to enter this park is along Atterdag. Inside the park there is a skate park, hikes, tennis courts, a playground, and picnic areas. Tons of parking!

Michael G.

Yelp
Great park, lots of open areas for the kids to run around and the playground was well maintained.

Yelp
What a saving grace after travelling in the can with young kids. What a beautiful and clean park to get the wiggles out.
google avatar

Yelp
Made my husband drive all the way here for nothing. Had a skatepark for the kids but it just was creepy and boring the rest of the way in. Should rename the park since I was expecting fairytales and fun.

Yelp
We went to walk our little pooch but found that there's lots more things to do in this park! There's a skate park, lots of picnic tables some are covered for those who want to be in the shade, well kept barbecue grills too. There's also a playground and tennis courts. At the end of the road there's a fenced area with goats and a very protective dog so be careful not to get too close to the goats or the Papa dog will growl at you and stare you down. Overall I really like this park and recommend it to tourists who travel with their dogs.

Yelp
Great park Great locals Street and bowls Great flow good parking water fountain and bathroom

Yelp
One of the best parts of our trip. There weren't many people around, so it was nice to hang out with my husband and baby. We Bbqed and played frisbee. It was clean and no parking fees. We will visit this place again for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
This park has an amazing skatepark. There is an obstacle for every type of skaters. There's rails ledges stair sets and an awesome bowl to skate. If you're driving down highway 101 looking for somewhere to skate I recommend stopping here
google avatar

Lani P.

Yelp
The park is located at the northern part of Solvang across the Atterdag VIllage - a retirement community which was home of the former Atterdag College. The place is great for walks, biking and picnics. It also has an area for skating. The place is well kept including the restrooms. So if you feel overwhelmed with the crowded downtown village, this place is a nice diversion. Nice for taking nature pictures too...

Yelp
Great ambiance and very nice with very little people. My personal favorite is the park, great obstacles for all levels, there was never more than 5 people total in the huge park, do you have your space to exceed and do what you want. The people are also very nice and encouraging for trying new things. Would definitely go, and recommend to everyone.

Sondi P.

Yelp
Nice park, but address is wrong on directions and led us to a locked gate. Correct address is 633 Chalk Hill Road, just off of Atterdag, north of Mission, the main road through town.
