London's Best Affordable Group Dinners

"At polished spot Happy Lamb Hot Pot in Holborn, there are comfortable booths and big round tables for groups, all of which belie the potential mess you might make fishing out a bouquet of enoki mushrooms last seen in your spicy broth 10 minutes ago. You need a couple of broths—one fizzing with chilli and Sichuan pepper is a must—and from there it’s a case of how many things you want to dip, dunk, and slurp up over a bowl of rice. Finely sliced rib-eye and lamb shoulder go down a treat, as do chunks of tofu, cabbage leaves, and hand-cut noodles. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Happy Lamb Hot Pot Holborn - Review - Holborn - London - The Infatuation

"The Mongolian-style hotpot is one of the finest (and most fun) examples of self-cooked meals done right. At polished spot Happy Lamb Hot Pot in Holborn, there are comfortable booths and big round tables, all of which belie the potential mess you might make fishing out a bouquet of enoki mushrooms last seen in your spicy broth 10 minutes ago. Broth, meat, and vegetables are the name of the game here. Your table and sidecar will quickly fill up with ingredients but, trust us, you work up an appetite cooking it yourself. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Jake Missing

11 Steaming Hot Pots to Dive Into in London

"Mongolia-based chain Little Sheep Hot Pot arrives in London with four soup bases: “milky” bone marrow broth; spicy bone marrow broth; pickled cabbage broth; and tomato broth. Opt for either half and half or split three-ways. The usual hot pot suspects make an appearance like a wide selection of choi, noodles and thinly slices of beef, pork and tripe, but the fresh lamb loin is cooked on a hot slab of slate that’s tilted at an angle, so all the meaty cooking juices flow right into the stock getting more delicious as time goes on. Plenty of options for the non-meat eaters, too. Fish tofu, fish with tobiko, an impressive seafood platter served on a bed of ice, homemade potato noodles and taro vermicelli noodle bundles." - Angela Hui

The restaurant's ambiance is both cozy and energetic, featuring comfortable booths and a lively open kitchen. It's an ideal venue for groups and couples diners seeking a unique meal. The highlight is the DIY hot pot experience: select from a variety of fresh meats, seafood, vegetables, and noodles to cook in a simmering pot of flavorful broth right at your table. Broth options include original marrow chicken, spicy Sichuan, tomato, and pickled cabbage, catering to diverse palates. Happy Lamb Hot Pot offers a rich variety of fresh and flavorful ingredients for a customizable dining experience. You can choose from multiple broth bases like traditional marrow, spicy Sichuan, or tomato. The meat selection includes thinly sliced lamb, beef, and chicken, all high quality and well-marbled. Seafood options like prawns, fish fillets, and squid are fresh and tender. Vegetarians can enjoy a wide range of mushrooms, tofu, leafy greens, and noodles. Homemade dipping sauces add extra depth to each bite. The portions are generous, and everything is served fresh, making it a satisfying and interactive meal for any appetite. Patrons frequently commend the quality and freshness of the ingredients, as well as the rich, intensely flavorful broths. The interactive nature of the meal adds a fun twist, allowing diners to customize their dishes to their liking. While the service is generally attentive, the restaurant can get quite busy during peak hours, so reservations are highly recommended.

We were on our way back to our hotel having been to The War of the Worlds experience and stopped here by chance. The restaurant was packed, I think we had the last free table. The staff were very friendly explaining the menu and how Hot Pot worked in their restaurant. Our friend who was with us is Gluten Intolerant and the menu clearly indicated the various allergens for each dish. During the ordering process the staff ensured we didn't accidentally order any item with gluten in it. The food arrived looking freshly prepared and we dug in. It was fantastic. We really enjoyed taking the thin slices of meat or vegetables and cooking each item in the broth and eating them. This was a great experience with great food, highly recommended and we will definitely be back.

Visited here on a Thursday afternoon. It was fairly quiet at this time (5pm) but soon every table was full. The food is very fresh and tasty. It’s so fun to cook it yourself, it’s a different experience and I recommend it! I’d suggest sharing the plates as you get a lot of food. The service is quite slow and it’s hard to get the staff’s attention, however they do check on the hotpot often to see if it needs more broth and adjusting the heat. Definitely try this place out!

Google
Happy Lamb is another renowned hotpot restaurant in London that has relatively good portions but not the most welcoming and friendly service. We got the spicy and tomato-based soups with some of the classic staples you’d find in hotpot like the lotus root, bean curd, enoki mushrooms. For the meat selection, I got the beef whilst my friend ordered the lamb which came well presented in this bowl. All was lovely, fresh and tasty. For 2 people, this was well enough for us. Our bill came to over £100 so not the cheapest option out there. On the downside, sauce has to be ordered and you’d have to pay extra for that. Service was not the best, but prompt. If you’re looking for good quality hotpot, then this is the spot. But friendly service, not so much.

It was a good experience. We chose mild chicken marrow broth, which was quite flavourful but not too spicy. Beef dumplings were ready to eat & delicious. My favourite side was the sweet corn, didn’t expect it to taste this good once cooked in the broth! I would’ve liked more options though like rice cakes or sesame leaves, but there were none. It does splash a little, so it would’ve been better if we had some cloth napkins to place in the lap/tuck in the collar while eating. We paid approx 35£ each, which included a 15% weekday lunch discount. Not all servers speak english but the lovely girl who helped us to our table was fluent in english, & very helpful. Food arrived quickly.

Google
love the restaurant interior and hotpot food and drinks!! for food, we ordered meat, vegetables, and seafood - everything was nice and fresh 👍🏻 for drinks, my table tried the lemon kumquat drink and it was so so good and refreshing 🤩 staff who served my table were friendly and welcoming too :) the only thing that didn't go to plan was that when we wanted to phone the restaurant for phone booking, the number ended up calling another happy lamb branch, so this google's phone number for this happy lamb oxford st branch may be incorrect. although happy lamb didn't give us a table straight away despite the misunderstandings, we had to wait 30-40 minutes for a table, but at least we could wait at the bar area for free tea refills, mini lotus biscuits, and mint candies :) additionally, if you're a student, do remember to show your student ID for a student discount! :D

Yelp
I am surprised by all the 5/5 reviews. Maybe because I am a Chinese living in the San Francisco Bay Area, and my bar for hot pot is a bit high, but this hot pot restaurant is definitely below average for me especially being so expensive. The service was professional. The interior is pretty fancy. The food is average at best. The price is too high for the quality.

Yelp
WE LOVE HAPPY LAMB!!! Can't believe there is one nearby the British Museum. We surely enjoyed this location and EXCELLENT service, and atmosphere. We appreciate the restaurant helped with the OLD MONEY. We would know the money has OLD & NEW in UK. Highly recommend this location! Very clean and friendly staff.

Yelp
This hotpot place is so perfect for a cold day. The portions are large and everything was delicious. The soup itself was amazing. It was so rich and flavorful, I could just drink that and be satisfied. The thinly sliced meat was tender and juicy as well. The seafood platter we got was filled and fresh. The only thing I do not recommend is the fresh beef with garlic. Although the meat is really tender, the slices of beef itself were really thick and looked like it should've been used for some kind of stir fry. Overall, an amazing experience for my time here in London.

Yelp
Delicious and quality meats in a modern setting. Friendly service. It's a must try if you like hot pot, especially Mongolian style Chinese hot pot.

Yelp
Such a fun and unique experience. We did the sirloin, chefs lamb, seafood platter for the meats .we would not do the seafood platter again. The prawns were too much work and the fish had bones. The mussels and crab sticks were delicious!! The veggie platter we would also pass on, but noodles were delicious!! They were chewy but I would eat a whole plate of them. We got the mild chicken broth and it added the perfect heat.

Yelp
Hot pot recovery New Zealand Lamb 9.76/10- so flavorful, very delicious, tenderness level on par Beef shoulder 8.65/10- very good but not as tender as the other two meats, and a bit dry in comparison Sirloin beef 9.23/10- had lots of flavor too it and was perfectly tender Regular chicken broth 10/10 Spicy chicken broth 10/10 Spicy pickled cabbage broth 3/10- too tart plus the spice was just not the right combination.. had to switch it for the spicy chicken broth Vegetable platter 6/10- honestly just wanted mushrooms mostly and for a large platter they gave a huge variety but i was expecting more mushrooms and carrots Kimchi 9.76/10- the perfect side, great complement to the meats. Thoroughly enjoyed Noodles 9.87/10- got this on a whim before realizing we ordered too much food but it was so worth it, so tasty and such a good complement with the meats, also the texture was amazing Scallion pancakes 7.65/10- so buttery but not as flaky as I was expecting however delicious. Also surprised it didn't come with sauce but it was so delicious and I like how it wasn't overbearing and a thinner pancake than a few other places I've tried it at This place is great! Firstly the ambience is phenomenal and so nice. Their service is great and the food comes fast, they are very accommodating. They close at 10 pm and last call is 9:30 pm so technically people are able to still eat until 11 pm. They also give lotus biscoff cookies at the end of the meal.

Yelp
Happy Lamb has delicious Hot Pot. They offer all flavors of broth in a vegetarian option, which we appreciate. And spicy is really spicy- which makes us even happier

Yelp
The food is fresh and exquisite. It was my second time having hotpot and I'm from the US, and this place rocks. The service was amazing. Staff was helpful and very prompt. The ambiance was so much fun. A mixture of K-Pop and Today's Hits, which was amazing. If I am London again, I will be visiting this place, but I hope next time I'll have friend with me. I also enjoyed some king prawns, Lotus root, potato, and rice.

Yelp
We were on our way elsewhere for dinner... and it looked inviting to us so we changed our plans on the spot... and were not disappointed. Waitstaff was friendly & helpful. Food was awesome, we were there with our (grown) kids and one little one. We had a variety dishes, including two different "pots" to cook in. Prices were reasonable, drink selection very respectable. We will be returning on our next visit

Yelp
Hotpot is fast becoming a favourite meal and Happy Lamb is playing a major part in that. We ordered the following: - Nourishing Marrow Chicken Broth - Spicy Marrow Chicken Broth - Spicy Sour Pickled Cabbage Broth - Chef Selected Lamb - Fresh Lamb Loin - Sliced Fresh Lamb Shoulder - Cuttlefish Paste with Tobiko - Lamb Skewers - Mixed Mushroom Platter - Mixed Vegetable Platter - Rice Cakes with Syrup - Sesame Paste - Garlic Sesame Oil - Coriander - Crushed Chilli The meal was delicious. All of the meats take on the flavours of the broths, combining beautifully with the sesame paste (make sure you order plenty) and washes down delightfully with a cold beer. The cuttlefish paste was also a highlight, forming into wonderful fishballs with a really satisfying chew from the tobiko. I personally preferred the thinner cut meats although the surprise standout out of everything was the lamb skewers. I liken the experience to Wagyu beef; so tender and full of flavour that I nearly teared up upon eating the first bite. The broths were all tasty although one regret was saying no when offered more chilli to the spicy marrow chicken broth; the extra kick wouldn't have hurt. The rice cakes were decent as a dessert although would have been better arriving last (it came along with the rest of the meal) and personally I'd ditch it next time to save space for more meat. Perfect for a cold autumn's evening.
