My overall experience at Happy Hostel was quite positive. The location of the hostel, just by the river, was convenient. There is a bus stop just across the street which can be used both to go to main train station and to the ocean. City center is walkable and it’s not located in the heart of the touristic area which makes it a right choice for travellers seeking for a peaceful but not a remote district. The facilities were super clean and staff were so attentive and polite. Highly recommended! 👏

Our host, Paolo, is a 6 time Camino pilgrim with a passion for hospitality! He and his staff of volunteers were such a joy to work with, I loved my stay at Happy Porto. The space is welcoming and intimate and there was a strong sense of community and friendship. The beds were comfortable, the showers were clean and there were plenty of games and musical instruments in the shared dining area to entertain me for days. I quickly found myself among fellow nomads and travelers who opened their hearts and made me feel like family. Thanks everyone!

had a perfect stay at happy porto hostel, definitely would recommend it to other travelers. staff was really friendly and helpful, always willing to help with anything. breakfast included, the room and bathroom was clean and comfy. location is not in the center of town but i think was best this way, walkable distances and a pretty view.

The hostel is well located from the Sao Bento train station and the beach. It has a good view of the city's main river and offers multiple facilities - breakfast, essentials for stay and great support. It's a great hostel for those who are looking to spend a few nights in a good deal in Porto, especially for Camino.

The hostel is very clean. The staff is polite. The breakfast included is good. The beds are comfortable and the rooms spacious. The only thing I had a really hard time with was their AC policy. The AC is only on from 10pm to 8am. I found it very hard to sleep past 8am because it got very warm, very quickly. Also, most people in the dorms were back by 7pm or and the room was hot and uncomfortable. Especially for us on the second floor. I really think the hostel needs to reconsider the hours they offer AC during the summer and extend them.

My 16 day stay at Happy Porto was amazing. The location was very walkable, the rooms and bathrooms were very clean and the staff were very kind and considerate. If you’re solo traveling to Porto, definitely book your stay at Happy Porto!

Rude and deceitful management. They pressure you with endless upselling until you feel you have no choice but to accept their overpriced rooms. When you complain, they act as if it’s your fault—no apology, just defensiveness. If you leave a low rating, they even ask you to delete it.

The apartment on 2nd floor was spacious and comfortable and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful and understanding about my need to leave very early. The kitchen space was great the WiFi was fast so I enjoyed working remotely there for 3 days. The street could be a bit noisy especially with the trams in the daytime but late at night it was fine. I really enjoyed my stay and was sad to leave! Porto is beautiful and I look forward to visiting again!

Yelp
Decidedly unhappy - bullies solo female travelers When I entered Happy Hostel, the man responsible for check-ins was outside conversing with another lady for a few minutes. Then he entered, greeted me, and asked if I wanted to check in. He was still in the lobby and did not go behind the reception desk. I said yes, he said 'You need a passport', and I got it out. But he lingered in the lobby asking me personal questions, still not going behind the reception desk to do the check-in. I felt it strange and interrupted him and said 'Sorry, I want to check in now please.' He became quite tense and got an angry look on the face, finally went behind the reception desk, and then asked me my name. I told him and at the same time gave him my passport. He then asked me whether I was jetlagged, and I said no. He seemed upset by this for some unknown reason. He did not enter any information from my passport nor do any check in activity at all. I was feeling even stranger especially as the other woman was gone and I was alone with this strangely behaved man. So I said I am sorry but I don't want to answer any more questions, I just want to check in. At this moment he threw my passport down on the counter with a melodramatic thwack and said my reservation was cancelled and I had to get out or he would call the police (!?) He shouted at me to get away, get out of here, you are not wanted here! So I went out of the hostel but he FOLLOWED ME OUT to the sidewalk. It was an overall bizarre and disturbing experience and I told him I would report him for it, as well as photographing the building. I also called the police to make a report as his loudness and following me around was threatening behavior and I wanted to be sure of getting protection in case he became violent. Solo female travelers, avoid this place like the plague!
