On the Grid : Gyoza Lou

"Fried or boiled? With or without garlic and chives? Those are about all the options you get at this gyoza dumpling restaurant - along with a few side dishes. But the dumplings are so good that you’ll keep coming back for more!" - Misa Matsuda Maraun

I’ve been to this place more than once. Although the environment could be cleaner, the food always wins me over with its simplicity and taste. We had cucumbers, gyozas, sprouts – everything was very tasty. They also had sake and beer. The prices are really low, which makes you want to come back again and again. Also, there’s always a line of people no matter when you arrive – probably the best sign that the place is worth it. It’s a great spot for those who appreciate simple but delicious food at an affordable price.

We lucked out and got into this place a couple times when there was a very short wait. We got the pan fried garlic dumplings and they were genuinely unreal, especially for the price. Food & drinks here are super reasonably priced, which I love! I do agree with other comments mentioning that the kitchen looks pretty dirty, but this didn’t detract from the overall experience for me.

Another gem in Harajuku. The guy that runs it is extremely helpful and super happy to welcome you. There is an english menu and the gyozas are delicious and very cheap. I tried the miso cucumber and is also fresh and flavorful. Pan-fried gyozas are much better than steamed ones. There is usually a small queue but it moves fast and its worth it. Price is very cheap.

Straight forward menu serving gyoza and small apps/sides. The prices are ridiculously low here making it a great budget option while maintaining quality. Service was phenomenal. One of the senior staff gave my girlfriend a homemade bracelet as an apology gift for forgetting one of our orders (not a big deal to begin with) but just goes to show service is above and beyond.

Great food, but service could have been much better. Definitely felt sectioned off as a party of 1 gaijin, with others being seated before me and receiving their food first. But overall a great experience. Tasty and crispy gyoza for a decent price. Great atmosphere, but it seems like this place has made the rounds on social media with the amount of tourists present. Will return for the food, but at a less busy time.

Harajuku Gyozarou offers great food, but the overall cleanliness and service could use some improvement. While the flavors were definitely enjoyable, the dining experience was affected by the atmosphere. The restaurant felt quite oily, and I believe more attention to hygiene and cleanliness would make a big difference. The service was also a bit rushed. The staff seemed eager to move things along, and when we tried to place additional orders, the waiter remained silent and didn’t acknowledge our request right away—he simply continued with his tasks and only returned later. A more attentive and responsive approach would have made the experience much better. While the food was solid, the overall environment and service left room for improvement.

Husband and I ate 24 dumplings, 2 bowls of rice, 2 bowls of beansprouts and 1 bowl of tofu. One of the best gyoza in Tokyo. The owner was very nice and showed us how to make the perfect sauce (mixing the 2 types of vinegar and chilli). It tasted so great with the dumplings. We liked the boiled original dumplings more and it was perfect with the sauce. The meat sauce beansprouts were very nice too. If you have issues with hygiene then you might want to avoid this place as the kitchen is open to all to see and the amount of oil splatter makes you wonder if they actually do clean the grill ever..

Yummy food, cool ambiance, bit of a wait for table and service but to be expected as they were very busy! Cool to watch open kitchen. Gyozas were amazing (we had both fried and steamed, preferred fried as personal preference), the cucumber salad was also really good! Tofu was okay.
