I was introduced to this place wayyy back in 2000 when I lived in NH and my parents lived in Maine. A vendor of mine ordered a Christmas box for me as a gift. Holy toledo. Rich, not waxy at all, not too sweet, and very decadent. Difficult to do in concert. They pay attention and get things right. (Would love to be a taste tester on new flavors!). They cashew dark turtles, the almond bark, the truffles... yum. The sugar plums they make on holidays didn't appeal to me but were worth trying to see what they were about.
I have tried other "home made candy" places in Maine, FL, NH, and CA as well as Italy and this one is at the very top of my list.
Somehow with a small child I just never made it to the actual store. Instead I mail ordered my "gift to myself" every year at Christmas. I moved away from NE to FL in 2001 and every Christmas I still mail ordered.
Then in 2014, I went to Maine on vacation and FINALLY visited the store. OMYGOODNESSS. The smells, the variety, the helpful people. I bought $50 worth to take home to San Diego (where I live now). This year, I am going to mail order at Christmas again.
My only cautions: the store is always crowded (they need more room!) and there is not many places to park. And only take a child that is well behaved. I cannot imagine otherwise.
