Wow!!! That’s all I can say. Don’t be hesitant to explore the unexpected and to visit those alleys and side roads. This place was so unexpected for me and I loved it! I’m a huge foodie and seeing this much fresh seafood in a place like Portland is wonderful! Being from Illinois, I have a true appreciation for these things. What a hidden gem in this beautiful city.

Google
Great selection of seafood. Nice to visit and did purchase 3-4 different varieties of seafood here. Many seafoods come from around the area, which is Local! Loved it! They were all great.

Google
Love this place. We had to make a last minute change at a busy time with an order and they came through big time. I really appreciate that they got us taken care of, even when it was rough to do. Fair prices, great selection, and good quality. They are what you want in a fish market and I would absolutely deal with them again.

Google
I came in yesterday and bought a smoked haddock. the staff helped me pack it so it would survive a trip back to NYC by car, bus, train, and subway. 11 hours later, I arrived in NYC and the fish was still cold!! I'm thrilled to say that I made a delicious smoked haddock chowder (using a recipe card that was at the register for a smoked fish chowder) and it is absolutely outstanding. thank you so much!

Wonderful fish market a must stop in downtown Portland. Boat to table/cooler. Ships Worldwide at this location

Google
Had seafood sent to Ohio as I was visiting there for Christmas. We're from Maine so my brother Greg, a chef was thrilled. Scallops, haddock and shrimp were perfectly packaged etc and we ate like kings. Top quality. Hope you recover from the fire ok. You're in our prayers. Thank you. Abi P

Google
The Harbor Fish Market had great prices for fresh seafood. We bumped into a local who suggested we get the bangs island mussels. We also picked up 1 pound of the haddock. We spent about $42 for this. We ended up cooking garlic mussels with pasta and baked the haddock with lemon and butter. This was a steal for a dinner for 2 (with leftovers). While vacationing in Maine, go to this fish market to take some time and money away from eating out!

Yelp
Came to buy some sashimi. We ordered about $160 worth of tuna. Chutoro (medium fatty cut located near the belly) Best place to get fish in the area if you know what to shop for. Luckily, our friend is a fish connoisseur so she was able to find this good deal! The 3 fillets are $80 worth. We ate half that same night with some uni from another place.

Yelp
This is hands down the best fish market in Portland and maybe Maine in my humble opinion. They have ample parking right off commercial street. TONS of oyster options, steamers, lobsters alive or steamed. Some of the prettiest Tuna I've ever seen. Their halibut is exceptional and during the season bay scallops. The uni during the season is mouthwatering. They happily pack it up to go for a fee, we've driven it down to NYC numerous times.

Yelp
SOOOOO. CONVENIENT!!! SOOOOOOO PROFESSIONAL!!!! BEST SERVICE EVER!!! 100% Recommend!!! I asked a ton of people for recommendations and Harbor Fish Market was hands down the #1 recommendation. It's apparently the go-to-spot for all your fresh seafood needs... for all locals and tourists in and around Portland, ME. It's located in the middle of the busy downtown waterfront district. They have dedicated parking spots for customers. I called while driving from Brunswick to the airport... asked to have 6 "heavy" live lobsters boxed up for travel as carry-on for my flight. The call lasted about 4 minutes... I arrived about 30 min later... walked in... box was waiting for me and I walked out to my car parked directly in front of the door. WOWOWOW!!! If I had more time or lived locally I would be there weekly to pick up some fresh seafood... there were so many options and the place was super clean and everything looked fresh. They also have an easy to use website to order local pickup or if you need something shipped to you. I flew my buddy's home with me... everyone from the TSA to Flight attendants knew exactly what was in the box and only concern was if I wanted to give them one of my "lobstas" ... my family had a delicious lobster feast that evening. https://harborfish.com

Yelp
This place by far the cleanest and freshest fish market in Maine. The products always fresh and it's the best place for FRESH FOOD!! The service is top notch also!!!

Yelp
This is probably the best place to get fresh lobster in Portland. You need to book 24h ahead for their cooked and chilled lobster. But it's really worth it. We had the $55 twin lobsters at Luke's and spent $25 on two 1lb lobsters at harbor fish market. IMHO, the habor lobsters tasted better! Highly recommend!

Yelp
This fish market is a gem! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the lobster is absolutely amazing. Every time I'm in Portland I immediately take an uber & my first stop is Harbor Fish Market
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Four steamed lobsters $56 was the best value in eating in all of downtown Portland. I only wish I had the opportunity to purchase more of the fresh seafood I saw there especially the mix cuts for $6.99 a pound of local seafood. Took these four back to the hotel and went to town. I grabbed a cup of butter to go which is a great option that they offer. I found myself not even needing the butter because the meat was so sweet and flavorful and they were perfectly steamed. So I just drank a cup of butter. If you have the opportunity to take these back to where you eat or even just sit there and eat them on the dock I would highly recommend Harbor Fish Market. There are many other items available for purchase as well.

Yelp
Personally, I think this is one of the best fish markets I've been to in New England. Amazing selection of fish and oysters. They also have all the tools you need if you're looking to debone or prep the seafood yourself. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Price varies, even if you're on a budget, come through, you can find great quality at every price point - you may need to adjust quantity/pounds of what you're getting. There isn't really much parking, but there are a few spots in front of the market. It's a small shop, very rustic, with charm. If you're in the area, check it out. If you're not staying in the area, ask to have your order packed with ice.

Yelp
There's just something about buying your fish or seafood at the pier! Fresh fish to say the least and the taste just doesn't compare to what's sold in the supermarket because they can't compete!
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh fish market! I made sure to make this stop before heading back to Boston! This store has a lot more to offer!

Yelp
We will never go to Harbor Fish in Scarborough again. On our order for 1 lobster tail ($21) Scallops ($32) and smoked mussels ($5) the lobster tail was tough and smelled and the mussels were inedible. It took two phone calls and an in person visit to get a refund. The first worker who answered the phone was rude and argumentative. Called back and spoke to Chris the manager and he at first was reluctant to give a refund on just the lobster and only offered a store credit. The smoked mussels he said they had already paid the vendor and could not do a refund. That made no sense as everything they sell must have already been paid for! I went back in person to get the refund and besides the lobster, told Chris I wanted the refund on the mussels. In front of other staff and customers, he argued again and I said "Look, they were bad and it's only $5. He loudly said "Well if you feel ok with taking money from a small business, that's on you." and instructed them to process both for the refund. As my wife and I are small business owners, we know how to treat customers the right way. That was the last straw and will NEVER shop there again. For good service and seafood go to Pine Point Seafood on Route 1 Scarborough- Jim doesn't disappoint.

Yelp
Amazing seafood and staff! Over the thanksgiving holiday, it was my first time traveling with packed live lobsters. I went from PWM to ORD. Mike reassured me of how long the lobsters would last, the packing, and overall care til cooking. They arrived still moving and my best friend was so surprised, and a bit startled by the live lobsters lol! She loved it! In fact her entire family enjoyed the six I brought them. So I decided to go for it again and bring lobsters to my sister and her family for Christmas from PWM to HOU. I was fretting due to the delayed southwest flight but the eight live lobsters made it safely and still moving! We cooked them up that evening and everyone really enjoyed the novelty of the live fresh Maine lobsters. Mike you are absolutely amazing! Thank you so much! I appreciate everyone at the fish market and Rosemont bakery!

Yelp
Was driving around Maine to gather some Maine goods and this fish market was open early on a Sunday which was great as many places in the area didn't open till noon. It was very clean and spacious, and the staff were friendly and helpful with recommending the soft shell lobster. Also got some razor clams which are hard to find in Boston, great surprise to bring home. Made a delicious seafood dinner with the lobsters and razor clams, definitely going back to this market when in the area!

Yelp
So glad I found this place via Yelp as I would have missed it otherwise as it is tucked away. I got some super fresh cod, and some smoked scallops and shrimp. Cashier helped pack up the seafood in ice. Impressed!

Yelp
I got two Branzini and some Halibut Bones last weekend, I grilled Branzini with Thai herbs and put some salt on the skins. Eat them with green vegetables and steamed rice noodles. The service is dependent on who is in a good mood or who is love to help out with any race. I actually go to m fish market twice a month.

Phon N.

Yelp
Razor clams on the half shell with olive oil, parsley, salt, pepper, and lemon. They were so sweet and clean tasting. Made some razor clam congee too and it was delicious!

Yelp
Love this place they have everything!! All the seafood you can dream of and at very affordable prices. The staff is very friendly and helpful with answering any questions you have about their food. Highly recommended!!!!!?

Yelp
Down a side street on the pier in Portland. Great seafood! I don't think there's anything they " don't" Have. Last trip we bought fresh Cod & fresh muscles. Outstanding!!
google avatar

Minie M.

Yelp
The market is located right on the docks. It is a working seafood shop with wet floors and all; wear shoes. You can park right out front free.
google avatar

Yelp
Harbor Fish Market provides free parking for patrons right out front. They have a selection of fresh oysters, lobster, crab, fish, etc. My husband decided to stop by here looking for lobster. Harbor Fish Market can steam your lobster, for a small fee, but requires a minimum of 24 hours in advance. My husband was annoyed with that and ended up purchasing lobster at another seafood market (Free Range Fish & Lobster). But I do want to mention they do sell lobsters already cooked, but placed on ice. Not sure how long the lobster has been there and how fresh it is though. Anyways, the employees we first interacted with on our first visit was friendly but then not very friendly on our second visit. Prices here do seem pretty affordable here, compared to other seafood markets that I have visited in the New England area.

Yelp
There is something deliciously sumptuous about going in to a fish market that doesn't smell like....fish. And here at Harbor, all you get is Ocean scent. When it comes to seafood, this place does it exceptionally well. I mean...do I even need to say it? We noticed Harbor on our first night strolling by the water then planned to get our fill of seafood to bring home with us when we left Portland. All COVID protocols are set: plastic gloves for shellfish self-serve, hand sanitizer by entrance and mask required. We brought 2lbs of Steamers, lb of Lobster meat, Crab meat container and marinated Sardines that were all packaged in an iced foam box to withstand the long drive down. Thank you! Plus folks were helpful to offer cleaning tips for our Steamers. Hubs and I soaked in the sights, timeless ambiance and that fresh ocean scent at Harbor F. Mkt. If super fresh fish and that sea salt smell is what you're after, this place is for you. Plus, what better place to go than a market where the people at the counter have caught and cleaned the fish you'll be enjoying later?

Yelp
This place is the real deal. I like the atmosphere--it's busy, wet, no nonsense or frills. Tons of options to choose from and something for everyone. You can tell the seafood is super fresh and the oyster wall was impressive. I wandered in one weekend and was impressed at the selection, although it was also a bit overwhelming. Ended up grabbing some lobster because that's always a fave around here, and it was really tasty. Next time I'll try fish and maybe some scallops. The shop was crowded when I stopped by, but there is a system to order ahead if that's your preference. I will definitely be back! This would be a good place to take visitors for a look at the local offerings and just to get that waterfront feel.

Yelp
I was fortunate to receive a $100 gift certificate to Harbor Fish, a wonderful fish market renowned for the freshness of its fish due to having it delivered right from the fishing boats to their back door. Harbor Fish Market is located in the Old Port section of Portland, Maine, and thankfully has parking right in front of it's famous facade. I did have to wait to go in since they are limiting the number of customers in the small space during COVID, however I didn't have to wait long, and was thankful they are taking the pandemic seriously. They have all of Maine staples - lobster, oysters, clams, mussels, haddock, striped bass - but I was on a mission to find some high quality tuna as I had a hankering for tuna tartare. I quickly honed in on the yellowtail tuna at $13.99/lb and the black fin tuna at $19.99/lb. I love yellowtail tuna for sushi, simply served with scallion or chives, but the dark hued black fin was the clear choice for tartare. When I learned it had come in earlier that day, that clinched the deal! When I got home, I cubed it and tossed it with a little sesame oil, soy sauce, and sriracha and let that sit while I cubed a perfectly ripe avocado and mixed it with lime juice and scallions. I put down a bed of pea shoots on my plate, pressed the tuna, then avocado into a ramekin, inverted it on top of the shoots and sprinkled with sesame seeds and scallion. What a decadent dinner with the freshest tasting and most flavorful fish I've ever bought in Maine. Thank you Harbor Fish!

Yelp
Clean fish market with parking out front. Came for the oysters. They have a huge selection of oysters. Everything was fresh. And when we purchased the oyster, they helped us box up the oysters with ice packs since we were packing the oysters for out of state. As far as taste, all oysters tasted great. We had some preferences but forgot the names of our preferred oysters. Some were metallic tasting and some were sweet and salty. You have a great choice selection at this fish market. They even have a book to describe the taste so you can check that out before selecting your oysters. I highly recommend this place and will come back the next time I am in Portland.

Yelp
It's always a thrill to enter this fish market. Today I discovered something totally new, which were premade lobster cakes, and crab meat stuffed haddock fillets. They were so delicious, and so easy to heat up at home, because all the work was done in advance by the good people at Harbor Fish. I am so happy to have discovered these items because I will buy them the next time. I am entertaining friends at home. This place is just so amazing, and there is so much to look at. The people who work there are so friendly and accommodating. I appreciate this place so much!

Yelp
I ordered a dozen Lobster & had them delivered by FedEx overnight. Nice size Lobster, 1.25 lbs each. Nicely packed and they are all alive. Had a nice lobster for lunch.

Yelp
This place was the full experience of buying maine lobster. It was good prices- we got a little over a pound of Lobster for $60 which fed 4 people with lobster rolls with bread from Standard Bakery. The folks were friendly and the seafood was fresh. Can't ask for much more when getting fresh seafood on the wharf. It was also fun to see all the seafood out- I'd imagine it would be a fun stop for kids and adults alike. They don't lets dogs in so make sure someone is ready to hang outside and do a lap with the dog if you have a fur friend with you.

Yelp
Happy Fourth of July! Celebrating our independance AND didcovering Harbor Fish Market. Thank you fellow Yelpers for bringing this gem to light when serarching for the best place in Maine from which to get seafood shipped! The lobster meat at $57.00 per pound was the most reasonable that I could find anywhere. Don't get fooled by the websites that sell "north atlantic" lobster- buy Maine lobter meat only- fresh, flavorful, and sweet like you sprinkled sugar on it! This order also included flounder and smoked salmon dip- amazing! The shipping is expensive so be sure to buy enough to to make the effort worthwile (shipping cost is by cooler box size not weigh) Harbor Fish service was spot on, seafood all offered amazing quality, and HF online shipping truly offers the best value if a visit to Portland Maine is not possible!
google avatar

Ray R.

Yelp
Love this place with its variety of oyster choices. They also have many kinds of whole fish. The fish cakes and shrimp cakes are highly recommended. When I came here, they let me sample. After trying them, I immediately bought both of them, they are so good. The seafood here are fresh and delicious. The prices are very financially friendly.
google avatar

Vivian W.

Yelp
Saw some article recommend for harbor fish market when you are in Portland, although we can't cook in our hotel, we came in here for a look. Quite a lot of choice here, it will definitely be a place to come to pick up some fresh sea food including lobster and bring it home if we are drive back to Boston.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
Living in Portland there are a fees options for fresh seafood. Harbor fish is one of the better known stores with a huge selection of fish fresh and frozen. Plenty of employees to assist customers in a timely efficient way. Came in on a Saturday late morning parking was easy as was finding what I i wanted. I enjoy the fish medley and salmon selection. The young man helping me was knowledgeable about all the fish and recommended the Opah which is a cross of flavors and texture which sounded wonderful! Once you are done selecting your fish the attendant wraps and packages your items while you pay for them. When done paying you are thanked for your business and on your way.

Lea M.

Yelp
Purchased live lobsters to bring back home (Dallas). Mike was very helpful and friendly. He packed our lobsters and gave us a good variety. The lobsters remained fresh. Will definitely return when in Maine. Highly recommend this place
google avatar

Jean Y.

Yelp
Go to see the dozen varieties of oysters from Maine! You won't find a greater selection anywhere else. I usually buy a dozen - 2 each of a unique variety and shuck at home. Permaquid and gludden point always delicious but try the other less well known oysters! It's a taste treat! Also don't skip the fresh caught fish.
google avatar

Lila P.

Yelp
A fish market near all the touristy shops and they have $9.99 a lobster thats ready to be steamed for you. Ehat a deal compared the the lobster plates in near by places.

Maryanne A.

Yelp
1st visit at this wonderful true fish market! Purchased 2 lobsters thought they were soft shell but after getting them into the Pot they're hard shell, kinda disappointed but I knew the lobster would be delicious as always! Maybe next time I'll ask to "squeeze " the shells!!!
google avatar

Linda C.

Yelp
By far my favorite fish market! I lived out on the east coast for a number of years. This has been a frequent go-to spot for fresh, locally sourced seafood from Maine. Can't not eat my lobster and oysters when I visit. Great location right off the harbor in Portland, Maine. This spot makes it a very quaint locale and the service is always warm and welcoming. If you're touring from out of town, I'd definitely recommend stopping in. Even for just the ambiance and experience of seeing all of the live lobsters.
google avatar

Kong L.

Yelp
What a cool fish market right by the pier! I've never seen seafood so cheap! Especially, when it comes to lobster. I thought that lobster would be cheap all around the restaurants but they were basically the same price I pay for in North Carolina. This place changed my mind. The prices are cheaper when you buy it fresh from the fish market. Too bad I did not have a kitchen to cook some lobster during my stay in Maine. Overall, pretty neat concept and market!
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
The best fish market, in ME, New England, perhaps the world. Very fortunate to be a regular.
google avatar

mj b.

Yelp
Legit fish market. Fresh. Not cheap . But you get what you pay for. Super helpful friendly staff who can't be beat.

Andrew F.

Yelp
Fresh food and fun place to shop. Chose my own oysters and learned to shuck (in the hotel room).
google avatar

Suzi G.

Yelp
Our go to for oysters. Always get a few of the entire selection so we can taste all of them-- rarely run into an oyster we didn't like from here. Definitely different experience shucking yourself vs ordering at a restaurant. Fresh steamed lobster requires 24 hr notice and earliest pickup at 11. We got live lobsters for a bake at a friend's house and they were truly some of the best lobster we ever had (and the juiciest). Definite inspo to skip the restaurant maybe once during a trip.
google avatar

John R.

Yelp
Obviously one of the batter fish markets. Large variety of fresh fish, fresh crab and lobster. Parking in front of store if you need to make that stop to get your seafood and not shopping anywhere else in the area. Only a 5 minute walk from public garage at the ferry dock.
google avatar

Xin L.

Yelp
We made a stop here on our way back to nyc for some fresh seafood, and it definitely was worth it. I ordered hard shell lobsters, oysters, mussels, and jumbo clams. The employee packed everything for me in a box filled with seaweed and ice blocks, which made everything alive and fresh for over 24 hours.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
Great place to buy fresh seafood. Crowded with plenty of locals, which is a good sign. When we came, the daily special was scallops for $15.99 a pound, which is way cheaper than what they typically go for, at least in Cambridge. We also got some sushi grade tuna and a 60g tray of uni for $9.99. The uni tasted buttery and fresh. The man behind the counter was also extremely helpful and steered us away from buying the overpriced lobster. They gave us a styrofoam box and ice for the trip back home, and everything was still cold hours later. Would make the trip to Portland just to come back here!
google avatar

Win S.

Yelp
Great fish market, friendly workers. Great way to enjoy a fresh steamed lobster at an affordable price. We were also able to pick out fresh oysters, and got some scallops which seared up beautifully and were so fresh and delicious. The lobster is really worth mentioning. We got a few shard shell lobsters, they were sweet, juicy and delicious. We took them back to our hotel and were able to enjoy them there.

Anne Marie F.

Yelp
We ordered lobsters and seafood from their website! The package arrived in pristine condition. The bonus was the seaweed that we spread on our BBQ grill to cook lobsters!! Will definitely order again!!
google avatar

Kathlyn H.

Yelp
Fun place with music on summer weekends. The bartenders were smart and attentive. Food was good but overpriced.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
What you really need to know about this place is one word - LOBSTER. The price is awesome, they'll help you pick out your lobster fresh from the tank, and steam it for you. There's a small discount too if you buy more than 10 - some come w/a friend. And it's delicious. Really, really, tasty. To another review I saw though - no, they will not crack your lobster open for you - that's all you. However, we were happy to find they sold lobster crackers, bibs, lemons, sauces - everything you need to enjoy a frugally lavish meal, and definitely wished we had some ice boxes for the fresh fish and clams at the store. Hungry cat follows her seafood and definitely approves.

S F.

Yelp
Wow one of the best fish markets I've been in, everything pristine and displayed so classically rustic We will stop here everytime we have to head home from Portland. And prices were very reasonable given quality
