"Reykjavík’s old harbor, built between 1913 and 1917, has seen quite the transformation in recent years, morphing from a mainly functional area dominated by ships and their fishermen to a lively, modern tourism area that’s almost a new city district of its own. The sparkling, award-winning Harpa concert hall and conference center has dominated the area since it opened in 2011, and several restaurants and cafés, along withoffices, now line the harbor promenade, interspersed with the occasional cultural spot such as the fascinating Reykjavík Maritime Museum. The boats, trawlers, and whaling ships are still there, of course, and remain a big part of the atmosphere, but they’re today joined by a number of tourist boats offering whale-watching and puffin tours."

I can't express this loud enough...but the is no place like Iceland! It's otherworldly...Reykjavik, is a beautiful small city in Iceland. So many great restaurants, coffee shops, and history. Spent a good amount of time walking around the Harbor..admiring the old sea ships, the museum, and just taking in the gorgeous scenery. Once you leave Reykjavik, and drive a little, you will find even more magic! Of all the places I have traveled..Iceland is my favorite 💫

Absolutely gorgeous at night and the restaurants here had fairy lights along their balconies so looked beautiful. Easy location to walk to from city centre for the Northern Lights Tour.

Reykjavík harbour is one of my favourite spots for an evening stroll in the central Reykjavík area. There are some really great cafés and restaurants here and some tourism offices are based here too. In fact, some of our favourite restaurants and cafés in west Iceland are all here in this area. Tourism offices here offer northern lights tours and whale watching tours too. Reykjavík harbour is worth a visit if you’re in the Harpa area!

Nice place to walk alongside the water. There is a walking path to follow and shops/restaurants along the way at points. Wasn’t very busy as it was just passed the downtown area. There were lots of tours available with separate kiosks. Also found a boat with my name on it!

A lot of construction happening around here in June, 2018.
But great views during a midnight walk.

Some good history info here and next to famous hot dog stand. Adjacent to the Harpa is the Harbor in Reykjavik. There are a few vessels in the area that are mainly used for fishing. You will also see a few coast guard vessels. Iceland takes their fishing industry quite seriously. In fact, the only wars that Iceland as a nation actively fought in were the Cod Wars, of which there were three. Iceland is largely considered the victor in all three, and there are plenty of plaques that go into greater detail about these events in the harbor. Another interesting event involved Sea Shepherd, the popular boat featured in the Whale Wars TV show. In the harbor, you can learn about a time that they sunk an Icelandic whaling boat.
